In case someone has a problem with a movie, they should talk to the concerned government department which can take up the issue with the filmmakers, Anurag Thakur said.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur on Friday deplored the "boycott culture" targeting certain films and said such instances vitiate the atmosphere at a time when India is keen to enhance its influence as a soft power.
In case someone has a problem with a movie, they should talk to the concerned government department which can take up the issue with the filmmakers, he said.
"At a time when India is keen to enhance its influence as a soft power, at a time when Indian films are making waves in every corner of the world, such talk vitiates the atmosphere," Thakur told reporters here responding to questions on boycott of films by various interest groups.
The minister's remarks come at a time when Shah Rukh Khan-starrer "Pathaan", which released on Wednesday, is facing boycott calls over one of its songs.
In the past, actor Akshay Kumar's "Samrat Prithviraj", Aamir Khan's "Laal Singh Chaddha" and Deepika Padukone's "Padmaavat" had faced boycott calls.
"If someone has a problem (with a film), then they should talk to the concerned department which will take it up with the producer and director," Thakur said.
"But sometimes, just to vitiate the atmosphere, some people comment on something even before knowing about it fully. That causes problems. This should not happen," he said.
Thakur is in Mumbai to inaugurate the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Film Festival that will showcase 58 movies from the regional grouping of eight Eurasian nations. SCO observer countries and dialogue partners have sent entries in the non-competition section of the film festival.
The minister also made a strong pitch for creative autonomy and said there were adequate safeguards in place for monitoring content on over-the-top (OTT) platforms.
"There should be no restrictions on creativity," Thakur said.
He said the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting does receive complaints about the content on OTT platforms, but almost 95 per cent of grievances are settled at the level of producers and the others get resolved at the second stage of the association of publishers of the content.
The minister said only one per cent of complaints reach the inter-departmental committee and it is ensured that strict action is taken in such cases.&nbsp;

Hundreds of affected people descended on the streets of subsidence-hit Joshimath on Friday to take part in a protest rally against alleged slow pace of efforts to save the sinking town.
The Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samiti had given the call for the rally to press for demands of permanent rehabilitation and compensation to affected families.
"The urgency necessary to save Joshimath is still missing. Permanent rehabilitation and compensation on the lines of Badrinath and the scrapping of the NTPC project for good are some of the issues which remain unresolved," Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samiti spokesperson Kamal Raturi said.
The protesters raised slogans as they took out the rally from the Tapovan taxi stand, crossed through the main road and gathered at the Ved Vedang ground in Singhdhar ward.
Local people allege that the digging of a 12-km tunnel for the National Thermal Power Corporation's 520 MW Tapovan Vishnugad hydroelectric project exacerbated the subsidence in Joshimath. The NTPC has denied any link between the project and the subsidence, saying the tunnel is over a kilometre under the ground and not below Joshimath.
Briefing the media on the relief efforts underway in Joshimath, Secretary, Disaster Management, Ranjit Kumar Sinha said the number of houses that have developed cracks stands at 863, while the water discharge in the JP colony area has reduced to 171 LPM.
Around 250 families have been evacuated to temporary relief centres and Rs 3.36 crore distributed among the affected people as interim relief, he said.
Construction of model pre-fabricated shelters continues on the land of the horticulture department in Joshimath, Sinha said, adding it is likely to be completed soon.
Land development work is also in progress for pre-fabricated transition centres in Dhak village of Chamoli district.&nbsp;

The Bengaluru civic body on Friday ordered closure of meat stalls, non-vegetarian hotels and restaurants from January 30 till February 20, in view of the Aero India Show.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in its public notice said that there will be prohibition on serving and sale of non-vegetarian dishes within 10 km of the Yelahanka Air Force Station.
The Aero India Show will be conducted from February 13 to 17.
The BBMP said, "It is to the notice of general public and proprietors of meat stalls, non-vegetarian hotels and restaurants for closure of all meat/chicken/fish shops and prohibition of serving/sale of non-vegetarian dishes within 10 km radius of Air Force Station, Yelahanka from January 30 to February 20".
Any violation of this will attract punishment under the BBMP Act-2020 and the rule 91 of the Indian Aircraft Rules 1937, it said.
According to the BBMP officials, the decision was taken as the non-veg food littered in public places attract lots of scavenger birds, especially kites, which can cause mid air mishaps.
Aero India in its website stated that a total of 731 exhibitors have registered -- 633 Indian and 98 foreign -- for the airshow.
According to officials, Aero India has carved a niche for itself globally as one of the premier aerospace exhibitions with 13 successful editions organised in Bengaluru since 1996.

A special POCSO court here on Friday sentenced a 39-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for repeatedly raping his minor stepdaughter and making her pregnant.

The girl told the court that her stepfather sexually assaulted her multiple times in 2016 when she was 16 years old and threatened to harm her if she revealed anything to anyone.
Her mother told the court that the man had stopped working and would indulge in alcohol and drugs. She said that she had seen him molesting her daughters and that he had been warned about that.
However, In July 2016, the family learnt that the girl was three months pregnant, the mother told the court. Later, she filed a case against the man at Shivajinagar police station in Mumbai.
Public prosecutor Veena Shelar said the court relied on a DNA report, testimonies of nine witnesses, including the girl and her mother, and medical experts to convict the man

The action come days after a similar ruckus at Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Millia Islamia over the screening of the documentary.
There was heavy police deployment at the varsity's north campus after students' outfits gave a call to screen the documentary.
Earlier in the day, Delhi University Proctor Rajni Abbi said they would not allow the screening and stressed that the students' outfits had not sought the administration's permission.
The Congress-affiliated National Students' Union of has announced a screening of the documentary at 4 pm on north campus while the Bhim Army Students' Federation said it would hold a screening outside the varsity's Arts Faculty at 5 pm.

The Delhi Police on Tuesday said Shraddha Walkar had gone to meet another friend which Aaftab Poonawala didn't like and he became violent.
Police on Tuesday filed a 6,629-page charge sheet against Poonawala in the Mehrauli murder case in the Saket court in Delhi which extended his judicial custody by two weeks to February 7.
"On the day of the incident, Walkar had gone to meet one of her friends which Poonawala did not like. After which he became violent and the incident happened," Joint Commissioner of Police (south) Meenu Chaudhary said.
Police said that the charge sheet was filed on Tuesday under sections 302 and 201 of the IPC. Over 150 testimonies have been recorded, they said.
Poonawala is accused of strangling his live-in partner Walkar in May last year and chopping her body into pieces before dumping them in different parts of the city over several days.

"Two fighter aircraft of IAF were involved in an accident near Gwalior today morning," the IAF said in a statement. "One of the three pilots involved, sustained fatal injuries. An inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the accident," the IAF said.

Officials said the two pilots of the Sukhoi-30MKI aircraft ejected safely while the pilot of the Mirage-2000 lost his life.
"Two fighter aircraft of IAF were involved in an accident near Gwalior today morning," the Indian Air Force (IAF) said in a statement.
Speaking to ANI from the crash site, district official confirmed that debris of both aircraft fell in the Pahargarh area of the district. Some debris also fell in the Bharatpur area in Rajasthan, which borders Madhya Pradesh.
"Two pilots who ejected safely have been air lifted for medical treatment", said Ankit Asthana, collector of Morena district.&nbsp;
