Shraddha murder case: Maharashtra govt orders SIT probe to look into 'political pressure' angle

Over allegations that there was delay in registering Shraddha Walkar's complaint against her live-in boyfriend Aaftab Poonawala, Maharashtra deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday announced that a Special Investigation Team will probe the case.

Making the announcement in the state legislature, Fadnavis said the state government would request Union Home Minister Amit Shah to try the alleged murder case in a fast-track court,

The BJP leader also informed that the SIT comprising senior police officers will also investigate if there was any political pressure on Shraddha to withdraw her complaint.

Fadnavis, however, added that prima facie there wasn't any political pressure on the deceased to take her complaint back, pointing that there a month's gap between filing and withdrawal of the complaint.

He reiterated that the SIT will look into what all action was taken by the police during that time.

Poonawala, 28, allegedly sawed Walkar's body into 35 pieces and kept them in a 300 litre fridge for almost three weeks at his residence in south Delhi's Mehrauli before dumping them across the city over several days.
