However, there is still confusion among people about the acronyms LGBTQ and LGBTQIA+, so let's understand what they stand for and what they mean.
L: This stands for lesbian, which means a woman who is sexually, romantically or emotionally attracted to other women.&nbsp;
G: This stands for Gay and it stands for a man who is attracted to men or it can also be used for people who are attracted to the similar genders as theirs.&nbsp;
B: This stands for Bisexual. It is used for people who are attracted to more than one gender.&nbsp;
T: This stands for transgender. This is used for people whose gender identity or expressions are different from the cultural expectations.&nbsp;
Q: This has two meanings, one is queer and the other is questioning. Queer is used for people who do not identify as straight or have any specific gender-fluid identities. It can also be used as questioning and is used by people who are questioning their identity.&nbsp;
Notably, in the acronym LGBTQIA+, the meaning of LGBTQ is the same, so let's know what IA+ stands for
I: This stands for Intersex and is used for people who are born with differences in their sex traits and reproductive anatomy.&nbsp;

According to a new study carried out by the Pew Research Center, more than half of India&rsquo;s population are in favour of same-sex marriage.&nbsp;

A recent study by the Pew Research Center has stated that almost half of the population of India supports same-sex marriage.⁠
The study found that approximately 53 per cent said they either &lsquo;somewhat favour&rsquo; or &lsquo;strongly favour&rsquo; same-sex marriage.⁠
According to Gay Times, support was higher among those who selected &lsquo;strongly favour&rsquo; compared to those who chose &lsquo;somewhat support&rsquo; at a rate of 28 per cent to 25 per cent, respectively.⁠ ⁠ For the unversed, same-sex marriage is still not legal in India but same-sex couples have rights and entitlements as live-in couples (analogous to cohabitation) as per the Supreme Court of India&rsquo;s decision provided in August 2022.

A report has highlighted the fact that more LGBTQIA+ users come out first on the dating apps

Coming out is difficult for some LGBTQIA+ folks. Amid this, the latest Future of Data report by Tinder found that 54 per cent of LGBTQIA+ people aged between 18-25 said that they were out on dating apps before they were out to their friends and family.&nbsp;
It was also found in the study that young singles have become more fluid over the past 3 years. &nbsp;
Tinder also said that LGBTQIA+ members have also doubled on the app in the past two years.
It is also worth taking note that in 2019, Tinder released a safety update in which they started providing alerts when LGBTQIA+ folks travel to any of the countries that have criminalized same-sex relations.&nbsp;
In 2022, they also joined hands with the Human Rights Campaign in an initiative to end the blood donation ban for gay and bisexual men.

This year is the 53rd anniversary of the first Pride parade. The month-long celebration highlights the campaign for LGBTQIA+ rights through parades, festivals, and theatre shows.

On 28 June 1969, when police raided a gay bar The Stonewall Inn in Manhattan, US, the queer community resisted and fought back. This sparked several days of protests and clashes in the surrounding area.&nbsp;
The Stonewall riots marked a turning point in the LGBTQIA+ rights movement and led to the formation of numerous LGBTQIA+ organisations. The following year, on June 28, 1970, the first Gay Pride March was organised in New York City to commemorate the first anniversary of the Stonewall riots.

The Pride Flag, commonly known rainbow flag, was created by Gilbert Baker, an American artist and LGBTQIA+ rights activist. Baker designed the flag in 1978 to symbolise the diversity and unity of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Notably, there are 34 countries where same-sex marriage is legal. Out of 34, 23 countries have legalised same-sex marriage nationally through legislation and 10 of them have legalised same-sex marriage nationally through court decisions.

As per a latest survey, around 9% of adults in 30 countries across the world identify themselves as LGBTQIA+; know more here

As Pride Month is going on, a latest data on LGBTQIA+ has shed light on the numbers and representation of queer people in 30 countries across the world.&nbsp;
The survey done by Ipsos found that around 9 per cent of adults from 30 countries have self-identified as LGBTQIA+.&nbsp;
It was also found that due to the awareness in the younger generation, Gen Z and Millennials are more likely than other generations to identify as queer, bisexual, pansexual, omnisexual, or asexual.
It was an online survey and more than 22,514 people under the age of 75 took part in it. The survey took place between 17 February and 3 March 2023.

Calvin Klein has come under fire after the pictures from their previously launched Pride campaign started doing rounds on the internet. The pictures show Dutch trans influencer Bappie Kortram wearing a Calvin Klein bra.
However, this did not go down well with several social media users and they started slamming the US brand for it.
Reacting to the backlash, Bappie said that he still stands by his original message and the pride that he felt when CK invited him to model for their Pride Collection of 2022.
Notably, when Bappie was cast, he was fundraising to have his breasts removed. He further said that it is important to show that trans masculine bodies with breasts should be celebrated.

23 years ago, 15 people took a symbolic round of the Park Circus Maidan, and the queer movement in India turned a began a new chapter in it&rsquo;s history. On this anniversary of the Kolkata Friendship Walk of 1999 we take a trip down memory lane with Pawan Dhall, a queer activist, writer and archivist.&nbsp; &nbsp; Nishtha Shanti: Can you take us back to 1999 and tell us what motivated you to hold the march and what preparation went into it? &nbsp;What was the day like, how did things feel and what was the kind of reaction you got after the parade? &nbsp;&nbsp; Pawan Dhall: I felt that this would have been just another &lsquo;michil&rsquo; or just another procession on the streets of Calcutta. And what big difference would it make? But I came around to the fact that we needed much more public visibility for the Indian queer movements. So, the Fire controversy, the controversy around the film Fire had already happened in the year 1998 and then also it spilled over into 1999. And that had brought the issue, the LGBT issues, into the public forum in one of the biggest ways ever. So, we had in the beginning, we had only 30 people who had agreed to participate. And on the day of the walk, only 15 turned up. And what we decided was that 15 people were not going to make much of a difference walking on the streets. So, we said that let's use this occasion to build bridges. So we did a symbolic walk in Park Circus Maidan, and then we split into two teams. So both the teams visited different NGOs, other social activists and government offices to talk to people to advocate on the issue of LGBT rights, and to explain LGBT rights are nothing different from human rights. The photographs went out all the media publications and one of the members who walked in in the first walk, he actually came out to his family through the walk, actually, because his photograph was also published and his family happened to see it and ask him questions. So, he used that occasion to come out to his family and fortunately he was quite well accepted &nbsp; &nbsp; NS: At the time how did the queer community react to the march? How important is inclusivity of all groups within the movement? &nbsp; &nbsp; PD: Some of the queer support groups said that &lsquo;Oh this is just a Western fad&rsquo; You have pride marches in New York and Sydney and you&rsquo;re just a poor copy of those pride marches. But I personally think that that is not how it was and for us straight acting gay men or bisexual men to be visible on the street and to be visible in public forums, it was something empowering I personally had to face a lot of criticism from fellow gay men that you are walking with lower class people, you are working with hijras, you are working with sex workers. They are not respectable. Is this the way you want to take the movement forward? So, my answer was that it is such a sad thing for you to say this because you guys are so scared all the time you are hiding in the safety of your house. You are running down people who are actually out there fighting for your rights. They are getting beaten up by the police, they are being joked about by the public, but they are facing it with courage and they are walking their pride. And this is actually nothing but misogyny as well as transphobia, which was present among many sections of the queer community and still is actually. &nbsp; &nbsp; NS: Most major cities now have their own parades that are held as a celebration and on a large scale, that largely can be attributed to the step you took all those years ago. How do you feel about queer activism today? &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; PD: There were something which the Supreme Court had said in its verdict of September 2018, is that we owe an apology to the queer community for all the stigma, discrimination and violence inflicted on the queer community through the years. But what have the governments done to honor the Supreme Court's verdict either for 2018 or for the NALSA judgment on transgender rights in 2014? It is eight years now, but how many government offices have become transgender inclusive? How many government hospitals have toilets where transgender persons can go confidently without being joked or without being called names? So why would these individuals come to the government hospital &nbsp; if they&rsquo;re not going to be treated with respect? &nbsp;Why does the police come and tell adult Indians that you have to listen to your parents? Be a good boy, be a good girl, get married, have children, that is destiny. That is not the police's job. The police's job is to protect our rights. And we have rights irrespective of gender and sexuality. So, the newer activists have to keep in mind the fundamentals and not be swayed just by the upper, you know, the flimflam, the rainbow colors. That doesn't make any difference at the end of the day.&nbsp;

The bill drafted by lawmakers from across the political spectrum was submitted to the Czech Parliament's lower house Tuesday, but no date has been set for the beginning of its debate.
It is strongly opposed by the Christian Democrats, and by Freedom and Direct Democracy, an anti-migrant and anti-Muslim populist party.
Zeman noted that the Czech state already enables civil unions for same-sex couples, He said: “But a family is a union between a man and a woman.” The Czech president is known for derogatory comments about the LGBTQ community.
A majority of all lawmakers in the lower house can override the presidential veto. The Czech presidency is a largely ceremonial post.

According to Section 9 of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, transgender people are eligible for any&nbsp;employment opportunity and can contribute to the country&rsquo;s economy. &nbsp;No government or private entity can discriminate against a transgender person in employment matters, including recruitment, and promotion.&nbsp;
An unfriendly work environment can adversely affect the mental health and productivity of queer folks at work.&nbsp;A safe workplace for the LGBTQIA+ community has the potential to become a lifeline.&nbsp;

Two Scottish referees Craig Napier and Lloyd Wilson have come out as gay on Thursday in the hope to see a cultural change in football.
The 32-year old referee Napier was the first to announce his sexuality and was quickly followed by fellow official Wilson.

With the announcement, Napier became the first openly gay figure in Scottish men's professional football since Justin Fashanu who used to play for Airdrie and Hearts in the mid-1990s.
Napier and Wilson said that they were inspired by Adelaide player Josh Cavallo and Jake Daniels who is UK's first active professional men's player to come out as gay.
Scottish Football Association posted a video on its Twitter account in which Napier said, "It's something that I've obviously lived with for a long time. It's been a difficult journey to get to this point, but over the last couple of years, it's become a lot easier."

As the world around us celebrates sexuality and it's various forms, editorji takes a journey into what truly made Pride into the phenomenon that we know today.&nbsp;

June across the world is celebrated as Pride Month. Rainbow flags, floats and cheers of LGBTQ+ people of all cultures come out, of the closet and on to the streets to show the world that they are here! But where does the idea of June as the Pride Month even come from?
The gay rights movement that catapulted it to global focus was in June 1969 when police raided the Stonewall Inn in NYC. The incident at Stonewall, a popular gathering space for LGBTQ+ community, became emblematic of the pride marches.&nbsp;
Speaking of emblems, the rainbow flag is synonymous with Pride. It was created by artist Gilbert Baker at the request of Harvey Milk, one of the first openly gay elected officials in the U.S., to create a symbol of pride for the gay community. Baker saw the rainbow as a natural flag from the sky, so he adopted eight colours for the stripes, each colour with its own meaning:
Red for life
Orange for healing
Yellow for sunlight
Green for nature
Indigo for harmony
Violet for spirit

Tens of thousands of revellers took to the streets of Tapei on Saturday to participate in Taiwan's Pride parade amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The celebrations also came as Taiwan hit over 200 days without any locally transmitted cases of Covid-19, hinting success at keeping the outbreak under control. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Taiwan has reported 554 cases of Covid-19 and seven deaths.
