In a joint statement, Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang said: ‘As we do every year, we have been reviewing and assessing our theatrical eligibility requirements for the Oscars.

The competition to bag the Oscar for Best Picture just got tougher. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced new rules for movies vying for the top prize. Starting with the 97th Academy Awards in 2025, best picture hopefuls will have to spend more time in theatres to qualify for the top prize.
 Besides the current one-week &lsquo;qualifying run&rsquo; in one of six US cities - New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, San Francisco or Miami, the best picture contenders would now be required to play the film for an additional seven days in 10 of the top 50 US markets. Additionally, there are several other new rules about when the movie must play in theatres.
 The Oscars had temporarily suspended these eligibility rules owing to COVID-19 restrictions when films were not being released in theatres. These changes do not affect any film contending in the 2023 calendar year and don't go into effect until January 1.
 These changes only affect films that are looking to qualify for the best picture category. Films in other categories like direction, acting, and technical achievements will not have to meet this criterion.

As we saw blacks and whites taking the centre stage, there were some looks which we can&rsquo;t seem to let slip out of our heads. While RRR team; actors Ramcharan, Jr NTR and director SS Rajamouli served some desi looks, our very own queen Deepika Padukone turned heads in an all black gown from Louis Vuitton. &nbsp;

Filmmaker Shaunak Sen's &lsquo;All That Breathes&rsquo; could not register a win at the 95th Academy Awards. The film lost to Daniel Roher's &lsquo;Navalny&rsquo; in the Best Documentary Feature Film category at the Oscars. The three other nominees in the category were &lsquo;All The Beauty And The Bloodshed&rsquo;, &lsquo;Fire Of Love&rsquo;, and &lsquo;A House Made Of Splinters&rsquo;.

A day after 'RRR' and 'The Elephant Whisperers' created history at the 2023 Oscars, members of the Rajya Sabha congratulated the teams of the two movies.
When the House convened on 14 March 2023, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar mentioned the victories of 'Naatu Naatu' as Best Original Song, and 'The Elephant Whisperers' as Best Documentary Short Film.
Dhankar called it a "moment of glory". Leader of the House Piyush Goyal said that it was a "great mark of recognition for India's women".
Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said that it was a matter of great pride before joking that the government should not claim credit for the achievement.

The country bagged two Oscars- one for RRR&rsquo;s &lsquo;Naatu Naatu&rsquo; in the Best Original Song category and the other for &lsquo;Elephant Whisperer&rsquo; in the Best Documentary category. Another highlight of the event was actor Deepika Padukone, who was one of the presenters at the prestigious award ceremony. Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik celebrated the Oscar wins by creating a 6-foot-high sand sculpture at Odisha&rsquo;s Puri beach showing the golden trophy along with 'RRR&rsquo;s song &lsquo;Naatu Naatu&rsquo; and &lsquo;The Elephant Whisperers&rsquo;.
He has also shared the glimpse on social media, sharing pictures, he wrote, 'Congratulations! Proud moment for Indian Cinema!. As per reports, the top nominees received an 'Everyone Wins' gift bag worth $126,000 (around ₹1.03 crore).

The 95th Academy Awards were held on March 12 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' dominated the Oscars, winning seven awards.
Those who lost were given extravagant Oscar gift bags as a consolation prize. This year, the acting and directing nominees will receive a 'Everyone Wins' gift bag worth $126,000 (around ₹1.03 crore).
As per a report in Variety, this year&rsquo;s gift bag includes - luxurious skincare products, bath ritual sets, celebrity-founded tequila, Luxury vacations to Italy and Canada, Art Lipo body sculpting, high-tech meditation orb, Flip flops, various luxury food items such as honey, biscuits and more.
These items are reportedly worth crores, and the gift bags are only offered to the top 25 acting and directing nominees. This year, the gift bags will be honoured to Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, Cate Blanchett, Ana de Armas, Michelle Williams, Michelle Yeoh, Judd Hirsch, Angela Bassett, Jamie Lee Curtis, Todd Field, and Steven Spielberg.

Former Union minister Jairam Ramesh said that it was "wonderful" that the Tamil film won an Oscar, and this might force the Modi administration to drop "elephant-unfriendly" amendments to the Wild Life Protection Act, which have been "widely opposed".

Jimmy Kimmel, the host of the 95th Academy Awards, made a joke about the lack of female directorial nominees in his opening monologue while discussing James Cameron, who missed out on a Best Director nomination for &lsquo;Avatar: The Way of Water&rsquo;.
Kimmel questioned how the Academy could neglect to nominate the filmmaker. &lsquo;I mean, how does the Academy not nominate the guy who directed &lsquo;Avatar&rsquo;? What do they think he is, a woman?&rsquo;, Kimmel joked.

He kickstarted the prestigious award show with a mention of last year&rsquo;s Oscar slapgate. He joked, &lsquo;Five Irish actors are nominated tonight, which means the chances of a fight just went way up.&rsquo;
&lsquo;We want you to have fun, feel safe and, most importantly, we want me feel safe. So, we have strict policies in place. If anyone in this theater commits an act of violence at any point during the show, you will be awarded the Oscar for best actor and permitted to give a 19-minute long speech. But seriously, the academy has a crisis team in place. If anything unpredictable or violent happens during the show, sit there and do absolutely nothing. Music composer MM Keeravaani and lyricist Chandrabose took to the stage after the film was announced as the winner by presenters Janelle Monae and Kate Hudson. It is the first Indian film song to win the Oscar. Composer MM Keeravani and musician Chandrabose accepted the award. Sung by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, the foot-tapping track features the film&rsquo;s lead actors Ram Charan and Jr NTR.

'The Elephant Whisperers' has become the first-ever film from India to win an Oscar. The documentary has been produced by Guneet Monga.

Actor Deepika Padukone, who is one of the presenters at the 95th Academy Awards, introduced the film and the team of &lsquo;Naatu Naatu&rsquo; to the audience. She is the third-ever Indian presenter at the Oscars after model Persis Khambatta, who starred as Lieutenant Ilia in &lsquo;Star Trek: The Motion Picture&rsquo;, in 1980. and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in 2016.
