The Covid-19 pandemic was a game-changer for the &nbsp;OTT platforms, which saw viewership skyrocketing.&nbsp; However, as the Covid situation abated, paid subscriptions for OTT platforms has plateaued.&nbsp;
According to reports by Livemint, besides penetration of OTTs among the urban elite has reached a saturation point and the platforms are yet to devise a strategy to woo the lower-end of the target audience in a significant way.&nbsp;
The churn has also increased with consumers frequently activating and deactivating subscriptions. At the peak of the covid pandemic, platforms had seen over 100% rise in subscription numbers. With most subscribers opting for annual payment plans, month-on-month growth has slowed, said Vibhu Agarwal, founder of OTT app Atrangii. Most of the OTT players have been able to gain initial traction from India&rsquo;s largest cities, where the per capita income is much higher than that in smaller cities or rural areas. Therefore, substantially increasing the paid user base could prove to be a challenge in India.&nbsp;

Netflix has been looking into different ways to stop people from sharing passwords for a few months now.
Since Netflix started offering subscriptions, password sharing has been a problem, but the company didn't do anything about it until it started losing subscribers. When Netflix's revenue dropped earlier this year and the platform lost subscribers for the first time in 10 years, the company realised it had to stop people from sharing passwords.
Netflix may start charging per person in order to stop people from sharing free passwords. It just means that if you give your Netflix password to someone outside of your household, they will have to pay to use your account. So, no one will be able to use a friend's Netflix account without paying for it.
Netflix has been testing the new option to share passwords in Costa Rica, Chile, Peru, and a few other Latin American countries. In these countries, people who want to use their friend's Netflix account have to pay $3. The company hasn't said how much it will charge per person in India.
Cracking password sharing is one of the new things Netflix is trying to do to get more people to sign up. The company just put out a new low-cost plan with ads that costs $6.99 in the US. They did this to attract people who don't want to pay a lot for a Netflix subscription.

Bihar IPS officer Amit Lodha, who rose to prominence following the release of the web series "Khakee: The Bihar Chapter", was suspended after a case was registered against him on charges of corruption and for allegedly entering into a commercial agreement with Netflix while being on a government post.
According to an official statement, Lodha is accused of using his position for financial gains by signing an agreement with the streaming platform for making a deal with the production house Friday Storytellers while he was in the position of an IPS officer.
The statement said that during the investigation by the department, the allegations of corruption against Lodha were found to be true, based on which a case was registered on December 7 by the Special Vigilance Unit under sections 120B and 168 of the IPC along with sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act ie PC Act.

The Cuffe Parade police filed a first information report (FIR) against him, two other persons, and the online streaming platform Netflix on charges of copyright rules violation following a complaint by a producer.&nbsp; &nbsp; In his complaint, Ashvin Gidwani, the renowned theatre producer, alleged that 12 jokes from the show were copied from the script of an earlier show produced by him and performed by Das in 2010.&nbsp; &nbsp; According to the official from Cuffe Parade police station, Gidwani mentioned that when he viewed a promo of a new show of Vir Das on Netflix in January 2020, he realised that some content had allegedly been copied from the previous show with a few changes.&nbsp; &nbsp; A case was filed against Das, two other persons, and Netflix service under relevant provisions of the Copyright Act on November 4, PTI quoted the official as saying.&nbsp; &nbsp; An investigation is underway and no arrest has been made so far.&nbsp; &nbsp; According to PTI, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, a right-wing group approached the Bengaluru police on Monday and sought cancellation of <a href="https://www.editorji.com/entertainment-news/bollywood/vir-das-tests-positive-for-covid-19-goes-into-deep-thought-about-considering-embroidery-1641871383329">Vir Das</a>&rsquo; show, alleging that it will hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and show India in a bad light.&nbsp;

Netflix has officially launched its ad-support subscription in the USA. It is aimed at consumers who are hesitant to pay for the company's standard plans.
The new subscription costs $6.99 a month. The ad-supported plan, dubbed 'Basic with Ads,' will go live in the United States on November 3. Later this year, it will be accessible in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
Netflix's Basic with Ads plan was initially unveiled roughly six months ago, as the company's subscriber count continued to decline.
Microsoft collaborated on the development of this plan. According to Netflix, the Basic with Ads plan complements the existing ad-free Basic, Standard, and Premium memberships.
This plan limits the streaming quality to 720p and comes with 4 to 5 minutes of ads per hour.&nbsp;
Additionally, users on this plan do not get access to the entire Netflix catalogue either. Also, downloading titles for offline viewing is not possible on this plan.&nbsp;
In terms of the types of commercials customers will see, the business says they will be 15 or 30 seconds long and will play before and during shows and films. This model will be used for the first launch and may be updated later.
Netflix plans in the United States are rather pricey, especially when currency rates are considered. For example, the basic ad-free plan is $9.99 per month.&nbsp;
In India, Netflix&rsquo;s entry-level subscription is a ₹149 a month mobile-only plan. So, we do not know if this ad-supported plan will be offered here or not.&nbsp;

The company said it ended the third quarter with slightly more than 223 million subscribers worldwide, up some 2.4 million, after seeing subscriber ranks ebb during the first half of the year.
Netflix shares shot up more than 14 percent in after hours trading to $275.80 on the earnings news.
"After a challenging first half, we believe we&rsquo;re on a path to reaccelerate growth," the company said in an earnings letter.
"Our competitors are investing heavily to drive subscribers and engagement, but building a large, successful streaming business is hard - we estimate they are all losing money."
