Moscow's mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, reported that at least 19 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed as they approached from multiple directions, averting major damage or casualties.
In response to the threat, Russia&rsquo;s aviation authority, Rosaviatsia, announced the suspension of flights at all four airports serving Moscow for several hours overnight to maintain air safety. Additional airport closures were reported in various regional cities.
Despite Moscow's official denials of casualties or significant destruction, three prominent Telegram channels linked to Russian security services&mdash;Bazaar, Mash, and Shot&mdash;reported a drone had hit an apartment building in southern Moscow, shattering windows along a major thoroughfare. There have been no verified reports of injuries.
Ukraine has yet to officially comment on these incidents. Meanwhile, a CNN report highlighted ongoing Russian drone strikes in Ukraine's Kharkiv and Kyiv regions, citing the governor of Ukraine's Odesa region, Oleh Kiper, who reported one fatality from such an attack.
These drone offensives on Moscow occur as the city prepares to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two. Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously declared a three-day ceasefire from May 8-10 to honor the event. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy criticized the measure, suggesting an unconditional 30-day ceasefire, aligning with a U.S.-backed proposal from March.
This marks the second consecutive night Russia has claimed Ukrainian drone attacks. On Monday, Russia&rsquo;s defense ministry reported the destruction of 26 Ukrainian drones. Since the commencement of the conflict over three years ago, Kyiv has mounted several drone offensives on Moscow, the most significant in March resulting in three fatalities.
Meanwhile, in Russia's southwest Voronezh region, bordering Ukraine, the local governor noted the destruction of 18 drones, which led to minor damage to a non-residential building and a children&rsquo;s playground. Over the southern Pena region, Russian air defenses destroyed 10 additional drones, with no reported injuries or damage, according to a regional Telegram update.
The complete impact of the recent wave of drone attacks on Moscow and the wider Russian territory remains uncertain, with no immediate response from Kyiv regarding the latest developments. Ukraine justifies its drone campaigns as targeting infrastructure critical to Russian military operations and countering ongoing Russian strikes on Ukrainian residential areas and essential energy facilities.

Moscow&rsquo;s airpower and support for Bashar al-Assad&rsquo;s regime have been critical in pushing back gains made by ISIS fighters in the early years of the civil war.&nbsp;
Russian forces have also been accused by rights groups and other opposition fronts in Syria of carrying out abuses and excesses against civilians through their bombing campaigns.
The ISIS-K was formed in 2015 by disenchanted members of the Pakistani Taliban. It quickly raised its international profile by carrying out attacks on Afghan security forces, ministries, and religious minorities.
According to the Institute for Economics and Peace, ISIS-K was labelled one of the top four deadliest terrorist organisations in 2018, receiving funds worth $100 million and training from the Islamic State's central leadership in Iraq and Syria.

Gunmen opened fire at a Moscow concert hall on Friday killing at least 60 people, wounding more than 100 and sparking an inferno, authorities said, with the Islamic State group claiming responsibility.
Attackers dressed in camouflage uniforms entered the building, opened fire and threw a grenade or incendiary bomb, according to a journalist for the RIA Novosti news agency at the scene.
Fire quickly spread through the Crocus City concert hall in Moscow's northern Krasnogorsk suburb, as smoke filled the building and screaming visitors rushed to emergency exits.
Alexei, a music producer, was about to settle into his seat before the start of a rock concert when he heard gunfire and "a lot of screams".
"I realised right away that it was automatic gunfire and understood that most likely it's the worst: a terrorist attack," said Alexei, who would not give his last name.
As people ran towards emergency exits, "there was a terrible crush" with concert-goers climbing on one another's heads to get out, he added.
Russia's FSB security service said at least 60 people were killed and more than 100 others injured, according to Russian media reports.
Russia's Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said 115 people were hospitalised, including five children, one of whom was in grave condition. Of the 110 adult patients, 60 were in serious condition.
Authorities said a "terrorist" investigation had been started and President Vladimir Putin was receiving "constant" updates, his spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian news agencies.
Russia's national guard said it was on the scene and looking for the perpetrators. An AFP reporter saw police officers with sniffer dogs inspecting vehicles parked next to the building.

Telegram news channels Baza and Mash, which are close to security forces, showed video images of flames and black smoke pouring from the hall.

About 100 people escaped through the theatre basement, while others were sheltering on the roof, the emergency services ministry said on its Telegram channel.
Three helicopters were involved in efforts to put out the fire, dumping water on the giant concert hall that can hold several thousand people and has hosted top international artists.
Shortly after midnight, the emergencies ministry said the fire had been contained.

The flagship of Russia's Black Sea fleet, a guided-missile cruiser that became a potent target of Ukrainian defiance in the opening days of the war, sank Thursday after it was heavily damaged in the latest setback for Moscow's invasion.
Ukrainian officials said their forces hit the vessel with missiles, while Russia acknowledged a fire aboard the Moskva but no attack.

It was his only reference to the missile cruiser.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the ship sank in a storm while being towed to a port. Russia earlier said the flames on the ship, which would typically have 500 sailors aboard, forced the entire crew to evacuate. Later it said the blaze had been contained.
The Moskva had the capacity to carry 16 long-range cruise missiles, and its removal reduces Russia's firepower in the Black Sea. It's also a blow to Moscow's prestige in a war already widely seen as a historic blunder. Now entering its eighth week, the invasion has stalled amid resistance from Ukrainian fighters bolstered by weapons and other aid sent by Western nations.
During the first days of the war, the Moskva was reportedly the ship that called on Ukrainian soldiers stationed on Snake Island in the Black Sea to surrender in a standoff.
The news of the flagship overshadowed Russian claims of advances in the southern port city of Mariupol, where Moscow's forces have been battling the Ukrainians since the early days of the invasion in some of the heaviest fighting of the war — at a horrific cost to civilians.
Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said Wednesday that 1,026 Ukrainian troops surrendered at a metals factory in the city. But Vadym Denysenko, adviser to Ukraine's interior minister, rejected the claim, telling Current Time TV that “the battle over the seaport is still ongoing today.” It was unclear how many forces were still defending Mariupol.
Mariupol has been the scene of the some the war's worst suffering.
Dwindling numbers of Ukrainian defenders are holding out against a siege that has trapped well over 100,000 civilians in desperate need of food, water and heating. David Beasley, executive director of the U.N. World Food Program, told AP in an interview Thursday that people are being “starved to death” in the besieged city.
Mariupol's mayor said this week that more than 10,000 civilians had died and the death toll could surpass 20,000, after weeks of attacks and privation left bodies “carpeted through the streets.” Mariupol's capture is critical for Russia because it would allow its forces in the south, which came up through the annexed Crimean Peninsula, to fully link up with troops in the Donbas region, Ukraine's eastern industrial heartland and the target of the coming offensive.
The Russian military continues to move helicopters and other equipment together for such an effort, according to a senior U.S. defense official, and it will likely add more ground combat units “over coming days.” But it's still unclear when Russia could launch a bigger offensive in the Donbas.
Moscow-backed separatists have been battling Ukraine in the Donbas since 2014, the same year Russia seized Crimea. Russia has recognized the independence of the rebel regions in the Donbas.
The loss of the Moskva could delay any new, wide-ranging offensive.
Maksym Marchenko, the governor of the Odesa region, across the Black Sea to the northwest of Sevastopol, said the Ukrainians struck the ship with two Neptune missiles and caused “serious damage.” Russia's Defense Ministry said ammunition on board detonated as a result of a fire, without saying what caused the blaze. It said the “main missile weapons” were not damaged. In addition to the cruise missiles, the warship also had air-defense missiles and other guns.
The Neptune is an anti-ship missile that was recently developed by Ukraine and based on an earlier Soviet design. The launchers are mounted on trucks stationed near the coast, and, according to the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies, the missiles can hit targets up to 280 kilometers (175 miles) away. That would have put the Moskva within range, based on where it was when the fire began.
Launched as the Slava in 1979, the cruiser saw service in the Cold War and during conflicts in Georgia and Syria, and helped conduct peacetime scientific research with the United States. During the Cold War, it carried nuclear weapons.
In 1989, the Slava was supposed to host a meeting off Malta between Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and U.S. President George H.W. Bush, but gale-force winds moved the talks to the docked cruiser Maxim Gorky.
Before the Moskva sank, Yuriy Sak, an adviser to Ukraine's defense minister, told AP its removal would mean “we can only have a sigh of relief.”
