Ace director Sriram Raghavan has outdone himself yet again with the Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi starrer 'Merry Christmas'. Hailed as one of the best psychological thrillers of recent times, the film has received rave reviews not only from fans but also from industry insiders. The latest to shower praise on the film is filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.

Anurag Kashyap took to his Instagram account to laud 'Merry Christmas', writing, "I love this film... @sriram.raghavanofficial has never known to play safe, and this time has come a hitchcockian love story with two actors belonging to different cultures and them coming together on Christmas Eve. He again does new things and creates a slow burn with a terrific payoff."

Merry Christmas box office collection
Despite ensembling Bollywood and Tollywood's biggest superstars, Katrina Kaif and Anurag Kashyap, the film received a lukewarm response at the box office on the opening weekend. The thriller opened at ₹2.45 crore nett in all languages on Friday. After a strong word of mouth, the film saw a slight boost on Saturday, raking in Rs 3.75 crore in India. On Day 3, it managed to record Rs 3.50, taking the overall collection of the film to Rs 9.65 crore.
About Merry Christmas
In a media interaction, director S. Raghavan admitted that both the Tamil and Hindi versions of Merry Christmas have different endings. He also revealed that the film has been adapted from a book but refrained from sharing its title. The film has been shot in two languages, with different supporting casts. Starring in the Hindi version are Pratima Kannan, Vinay Pathak, Sanjay Kapoor, and Tinnu Anand. However, Rajesh Williams, Shanmugaraja, Kevin Jay Babu, and Radhika Sarathkumar play the same parts in the Tamil version. The movie narrates the tale of how two people's worlds are turned upside down on an ordinary Christmas Eve.

'Merry Christmas' is touted to be a mystery thriller that follows Albert (Vijay Sethupathi), who has come back to Mumbai from Dubai only to find that his mother is no more. Ahead of its release, director Sriram Raghavan has revealed that he said no to Saif Ali Khan for Vijay's role opposite Katrina. He said that he wanted a unique kind of pairing because that's the story's requirement.
Speaking to Pinkvilla, Sriram said, &lsquo;I wanted a very unique kind of a pairing because that's the story's requirement. One should not get any baggage from either of them. So I had met another actor who had liked the role also, but then I told him sorry.&rsquo;
When Katrina Kaif, who was sitting beside Sriram during the interview, interrupted him and asked who the actor was. Sriram replied, &lsquo;It was Saif Ali Khan! So I had met up and he was actually a little upset when I told him no. That time, I had not cast Vijay. I was just saying no because I wanted something fresh, I don't know what I am looking for.&rsquo;
Saif Ali Khan worked with Sriram in &lsquo;Ek Hasina Thi&rsquo; (2004) and &lsquo;Agent Vinod&rsquo; (2012).
Sriram then added that it was during his trip to Melbourne for a film festival when he met Vijay after seeing &lsquo;96&rsquo;, and asked whether he could speak in Hindi. He said yes and that resulted in an 'oddball' combination of actors in the film.

&lsquo;Merry Christmas&rsquo; is <a href="https://www.editorji.com/entertainment-news/bollywood/koffee-with-karan-7-twitter-review-katrina-kaif-siddhant-chaturvedi-ishaan-khatter-create-an-uproar-1662631600348">Katrina Kaif</a> and <a href="https://www.editorji.com/entertainment-news/bollywood/vijay-sethupathi-to-play-the-antagonist-in-shah-rukh-khan-s-jawan-1660463328707">Vijay Sethupathi</a>&rsquo;s first film together. It is scheduled to release in theatres next year on December 23.
Earlier, Katrina had shared a few images from the rehearsals in which she was seen engaged in a serious discussion with the director and her co-actor.
The &lsquo;Zero&rsquo; actor started shooting for the film post her wedding to actor <a href="https://www.editorji.com/entertainment-news/bollywood/filmfare-2022-vicky-kaushal-says-i-love-you-dearest-wife-to-katrina-kaif-as-he-wins-award-1661945907507">Vicky Kaushal </a>in Decemeber 2021. Besides Merry Christmas, Katrina&rsquo;s forthcoming projects include, &lsquo;Tiger 3&rsquo;, &lsquo;Phone Bhoot&rsquo; and &lsquo;Jee Le Zaraa&rsquo;.
