It is important to maintain a healthy menstrual cycle to have a safe and healthy life. Dr Kalyani Shrimali, Fertility expert, Nova IVF Fertility spoke with Editorji about menstrual health and its effects on fertility. &nbsp;
Dr Kalyani Shrimali, said it is important to lead a healthy lifestyle. She said, &ldquo;The first and the foremost, as always is a healthy lifestyle, a balanced diet, regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight can promote regular menstrual cycles and improve your fertility."
The doctor also said that if you have concerns about irregular cycles or if you are planning for pregnancy then you should visit your health care provider or the consultant regularly. They can offer guidance, conduct necessary tests and suggest treatments if needed.&nbsp;
At the same time Dr Kalyani Shrimali said that understanding your menstrual cycle and its phases is also important. It can help or empower to make informed decisions about your reproductive health and fertility.&nbsp;

Govt: no proposal under consideration for providing menstrual leaves

In her written reply in Lok Sabha, Irani said there was no proposal under consideration of the government to make provision for paid menstrual leave mandatory for all workplaces.

There is no proposal under the consideration of the government to make provision for paid menstrual leave mandatory for all workplaces, Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani informed Lok Sabha on Friday.
She was replying to a question by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
In her written reply in Lok Sabha, Irani said, "At present, there is no proposal under consideration of the Government to make provision for paid menstrual leave mandatory for all workplaces".
"Menstruation is a physiological phenomenon among women and only a small proportion of women/ girls suffer from severe dysmenorrhea or similar complaints; and most of these cases are manageable by medication," Irani said in her reply.
The minister added that various types of leave are available to a female government employee under the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972 in the form of earned leave, half-pay leave, extraordinary leave, child care leave, commuted leave, maternity leave, leave on medical certificate, leave not due, etc.&nbsp;

Researchers have been comparing different menstrual products to see which ones work best, especially for people with heavy flows. In this study, they found that menstrual discs outperformed traditional tampons and pads. But what exactly are menstrual discs?
Menstrual discs are small, flexible devices made from soft materials that fit inside the vagina to collect menstrual blood. They are designed to be more comfortable and leak-proof compared to tampons and pads. The discs are placed in a slightly different way than tampons &ndash; they sit in the vaginal fornix, a space right behind the vaginal canal. This position helps prevent leaks and allows for a better fit.
The study revealed that menstrual discs have several advantages like less leakage, comfort, freedom to move and are reusable over tampons and pads, especially for those with heavy flows.

World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2023:&nbsp; Around 73 per cent of women want companies to allow them to take menstrual leaves while 71.7 per cent of the survey participants do not want the menstrual leaves to be paid.&nbsp;

A survey conducted by Everteen ahead of the global Menstrual Hygiene Day found that around 73 per cent of women want companies to allow them to take menstrual leaves.
More than 10,000 women aged 18 to 35 participated in the survey from different cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru among others.
The Menstrual Hygiene survey report 2023, also revealed that 71.7 per cent of the participants do not want the menstrual leaves to be paid leaves, as it may make companies reluctant to hire female employees.
Also, 86.6 per cent of survey participants were in favour of menstrual-friendly workplaces where females do not have to be hesitant in discussing the subject openly.

For the past two years, the theme of this day has been &lsquo;Making menstruation a normal fact of life by 2030&rsquo;. It aims to have a world by 2030 where no one is stopped from doing anything just because they menstruate.&nbsp;
<h3>Importance of menstrual hygiene and awareness&nbsp;</h3>
Even though things have changed a lot, there are some women, especially in rural areas, who feel hesitant to talk openly about menstruation. This causes negligence in menstrual hygiene which may lead to infections and health problems. &nbsp;&nbsp;
According to a report by National Family Health Survey released on May 5, 2022, 64.4 per cent Indian women aged 15-24 use sanitary napkins, 49.6 per cent use cloth, 15 per cent use locally prepared napkins and only 0.3 per cent use menstrual cups. &nbsp;
The report also said that despite growth in awareness about menstrual health among women, overall, only 77.6 per cent of women in India use a hygienic method of menstrual protection.&nbsp;

Skipping Baths&nbsp;
This myth does have some historical context, as in the older days people would bathe in water bodies situated close to their homes, as the concept of toilets did not exist.&nbsp;The protection of those water sources from such 'pollution' was a key concern. Hence, menstruating people were not allowed to take a bath to avoid any 'contamination.' Avoiding Sour Food and Drinks

It is believed that such foods will disturb or stop the menstrual flow. However, there is no scientific proof to support this argument, so go ahead and eat whatever you fancy during that time of the month!

Menstruating people are subject to certain religious restrictions during this time. Not being allowed to enter&nbsp;the Puja room or visit the Temple are some of the&nbsp;major restrictions enforced. They&nbsp;are also restricted from offering prayers and touching holy books. The basis for this myth is founded on the cultural belief that menstruating people are not 'pure.' The team says their findings&nbsp;come as no surprise&nbsp;given the&nbsp;pandemic&rsquo;s&nbsp;impact on our mental health.&nbsp;In fact, the results&nbsp;confirm&nbsp;what&nbsp;many anecdotal reports, social media&nbsp;comments&nbsp;and&nbsp;informal surveys&nbsp;have been saying all along.&nbsp;
They add that the ripple effects of ignoring women&rsquo;s health are already being&nbsp;observed with&nbsp;hordes of menstruators reporting&nbsp;period irregularities as a result of Covid-19 vaccines and/or infection.
