In a fresh boost for investigators in the Shraddha Walkar murder case, blood samples found at the flat of Aaftab Poonawala have reportedly been found to belong to the victim.
This was confirmed by a central forensic lab report, according to sources quoted by Hindustan Times.
This is the second breakthrough for police in the case. On 15 December 2022, Delhi police said that bone samples found in a forest had matched Shraddha's father's DNA.
The blood sample report is admissible as evidence in court, the HT report said.
Meanwhile, a day earlier, accused Aaftab Poonawala withdrew his bail application in court, citing miscommunication with the lawyer. Poonawala will reportedly seek bail once police file the chargesheet in the case.

The bones were sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for examination.
Delhi Police sources told HT that the DNA results could either be a big breakthrough in the case, or a setback, and investigators have their "fingers crossed".
If the bone samples do not match Shraddha's DNA, then police will have only circumstantial evidence, not hard proof, against Aaftab.

They said Poonawala's narco test was completely successful and his health condition was absolutely fine.
Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sagar Preet Hooda said the process of the narco test was complete.
The officials said Poonawala reached Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini at 8.40 am and the narco test started around 10 am. After the test, he was kept under observation.
Poonawala is likely to be taken to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) here on Friday. According to FSL sources, the answers he gave during his polygraph and narco tests will be analysed. He will be informed about the replies he gave.
Before the narco test, Poonawalla underwent a general check-up for blood pressure, pulse rate, body temperature and heart beat, a senior official said.
A consent form with complete details of Poonawala and the team conducting his narco test was read out to him as part of the procedure. The procedure was started after he signed it, the official said.
Narco analysis involves intravenous administration of a drug (such as sodium pentothal, scopolamine, and sodium amytal) that causes the person undergoing it to enter into various stages of anaesthesia.
In the hypnotic stage, the person becomes less inhibited and is more likely to divulge information, which would usually not be revealed in the conscious state.
Investigating agencies use this test after other pieces of evidence do not provide a clear picture of a case.

The Supreme Court has ruled that narco-analysis, brain mapping, and polygraph tests cannot be conducted on any person without his or her consent.
Also, statements made during this test are not admissible as primary evidence in the court, except under certain circumstances when the bench thinks that the facts and nature of the case permit it.
Twenty-eight-year-old Poonawalla allegedly strangled his live-in partner Walkar and sawed her body into 35 pieces which he kept in a 300-litre fridge for almost three weeks at his residence in South Delhi's Mehrauli before dumping them across the city over several days.

He was arrested on November 12 and sent to five-day police custody, which was further extended by five days on November 17. The court on November 26 sent him to judicial custody for 13 days.&nbsp;

Abinash Kumar, Poonawala's counsel, said that the police had filed an application for taking Poonawala to Forensic Science Lab, Rohini, on December 1 and December 5, which was allowed by the court.
Police had earlier said that the narco analysis would be conducted at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini by a team of experts from the FSL.
On Monday, Poonawala had come under an attack by some weapon-wielding men at the FSL when he was in a police van.
A video of the attack that surfaced on social media showed a policeman whipping out his pistol to warn the attackers to back off.
Since the incident, security outside the FSL, where a series of sessions of polygraph test on Poonawala has taken place, has been beefed up.
Poonawala, 28, is accused of strangling his live-in partner, Shraddha Walkar, and sawing her body into 35 pieces.
He allegedly kept her body parts in a 300-litre fridge for almost three weeks at his house in South Delhi's Mehrauli, before dumping them across the city over several days in the dark of night.
He was arrested on November 12 and sent to five-day police custody, which was further extended by five days on November 17.
On November 22, he was sent to police custody for four days. The court on November 26, sent him to judicial custody for 13 days.

Meanwhile, Delhi police said that they have arrested 2 persons for attacking the van carrying Aaftab. The two alleged attackers were identified as Kuldeep Thakur and Nigam Gujjar, and they claimed to be part of an outfit called the Hindu Sena.

Delhi Police has seized five knives from the flat of Mehrauli murder accused Aaftab Amin Poonawala, who underwent a marathon polygraph test of nearly eight hours on Thursday at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) here, officials said.

However, police said the saw allegedly used by Poonawala to cut his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar's body is yet to be recovered.

The incident also took a political turn with Union Home Minister Amit Shah assuring "strict punishment" to the accused in minimal possible time while the CPI-M alleged that the murder and dismemberment of Walker by her Muslim boyfriend was being used for "communal propaganda".
According to the sources in the police department, the recovered knives were sent to FSL for examination to ascertain if these were used in commission of the crime.
"If these knives were used during commission of the crime, will be ascertained only after forensic examination which takes time," said a source.
The second session of the polygraph test of Poonawala which started around 12 pm at the FSL Rohini went on for nearly eight hours.
"During the session, Poonawala was asked details about the case, what triggered him to kill Walker, if it was a planned event or he did it in a fit of rage like he claimed in the court. All the sequence of event that transpired ever since they started dating and how he decided to dispose of the body in such a gruesome manner. He was also asked about kind of weapon he used to chop her body into multiple parts along with various other questions related to the case that could give lead to further investigation in the case," an FSL source said.

The test could not be conducted on Wednesday as Poonawala was down with fever and cold.
The accused had undergone the first session of the polygraph test, also known as the lie detector test, on Tuesday. FSL, Rohini Director Deepa Verma said if required the accused can be called again on Friday.

"I have my eyes on the entire case. I just want to tell the people of the country that whosoever has done this, Delhi Police and prosecution will ensure strict punishment in the minimum time," he said at the Times Now Summit here.

"I have my eyes on the entire case. I just want to tell the people of the country that whosoever has done this, Delhi Police and prosecution will ensure strict punishment in the minimum time," he said at the Times Now Summit here.

Shah said there is no lack of coordination between Delhi and Mumbai police.
"But the letter that has come to fore, Delhi Police has no role in it. In a police station in Maharashtra, Shraddha had given a letter that her body will be cut into pieces and about receiving death threats... No action was taken on it there...There will be probe on it there. At that time we did not have our government... Whosever is responsible, strict action will be taken," the home minister said.
In May this year, Walkar, 27, was allegedly murdered by Poonawala in Delhi. He allegedly strangled Walkar and sawed her body into 35 pieces which he kept in a fridge for almost three weeks at his residence in South Delhi&rsquo;s Mehrauli area before dumping them across the city over several days past midnight.
On Wednesday, the police said that Walkar had submitted a complaint letter to Tulinj police station at Vasai in Palghar in November 2020, alleging that Poonawala was trying to kill her.

They also said that when the local police approached Walkar, she withdrew the complaint, saying the issues between her and Poonawala were resolved. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, however, said the state government would probe why action was not taken by the police on Walkar's complaint.
