Actor Madhuri Dixit has recently acquired shares in Swiggy, the popular food and grocery delivery startup, ahead of its upcoming public market debut later this year.
Dixit purchased shares alongside Ritesh Malik, founder of Innov8, which is now part of Oyo.
Together, they invested ₹3 crore, with each contributing ₹1.5 crore.
This investment, made through secondary market transactions facilitated by Swiggy&rsquo;s investment banker, Avendus, positions them as equal shareholders in the company.
A secondary market transaction involves buying shares directly from existing investors rather than from the company itself.
Dixit paid ₹345 per share for her stake.
Dr. Shriram Nene, Dixit&rsquo;s husband, typically invests alongside the duo, but he chose not to comment specifically on the Swiggy investment, citing the vibrant and diverse startup ecosystem in India.
&lsquo;We moved from the US where the startup ecosystem was booming to India where startups were just beginning to take shape. Madhuri&rsquo;s work takes her to mass markets and the consumer space. My work is in health, tech and new media. We have a board of statured advisors and our family office is now actively and selectively participating in the unlisted space. In some cases, the involvement is only financial, in other cases, it is more strategic,&rsquo; Dr Shriram Nene said in a statement to Moneycontrol.
&lsquo;At this point, we would prefer not to name or discuss any specific company, but the startup ecosystem in India is certainly one of the most interesting in the world due to the unique and diverse nature of India&rsquo;s consumers and markets,&rsquo; Nene added, without specifically commenting on the Swiggy investment.
Swiggy, based in Bengaluru, is preparing for a significant $1.4 billion (₹11,664 crore) IPO later this year.
The company's revenue surged by 36% from ₹8,265 crore in FY23 to ₹11,247 crore in FY24, while losses decreased by 44% due to better expense management. In comparison, Zomato, a rival, reported ₹12,114 crore in revenue and a ₹351 crore profit for FY24.
Dixit is the second high-profile Indian celebrity to invest in Swiggy ahead of its IPO.
Amitabh Bachchan also acquired shares in August.
This move comes as investors look for promising opportunities beyond Zomato, which has seen a 120% increase in its stock price year-to-date since its 2021 listing.
Swiggy, which along with Zomato controls about 90-95% of India&rsquo;s food delivery market, also competes in the burgeoning quick commerce sector with players like Blinkit and Zepto.
Swiggy's valuation in secondary transactions has been estimated at $9-9.3 billion, with projections suggesting a listing valuation of $10-13 billion. For context, Zomato&rsquo;s market value exceeds $29 billion.

As per a report by Mid-Day, &lsquo;The team felt another spirit would add to the narrative. So, it will be Rooh Baba versus the two ghosts played by Madhuri Dixit and Vidya Balan. By bringing the two leading ladies together for the first time on screen, the makers have played a trump card.&rdquo; The report added that Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 will go on floors next month. The report also claimed that Sara Ali Khan is being considered as the female lead of the film. Reacting to the news, the source said, &ldquo;The discussions are at a nascent stage. Actor Madhuri Dixit Nene's mother Snehlata Dixit passed away this morning at 8:40 am. She was 91. The reason for the demise is not revealed yet. Reports suggest that her cremation will&nbsp;take place at 3 pm today at a crematorium in Worli.&nbsp; &nbsp; Madhuri Dixit and her husband Shriram Nene shared the news in a joint statement. The news statement reads, 'Our beloved Aai, Snehalata Dikshit, passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by her loved ones.'
Last year, on her mother&rsquo;s 90th birthday, <a href="https://www.editorji.com/entertainment-news/bollywood/oscars-2023-ar-rahman-roots-for-naatu-naatu-says-i-want-them-to-win-the-grammy-also-1678596093387">Madhuri</a> penned a heartfelt note along with adorable pictures, she wrote, 'Happy Birthday, Aai! &lsquo;Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa&rsquo;, the dance reality show, is one of the most widely-watched shows on television. Actor Shilpa Shinde, who was one of the most powerful contestants in the ongoing 10th season of the show, got eliminated a few days ago. Recently, she took to Instagram and slammed the show judges - Karan Johar, Madhuri Dixit Nene, and Nora Fatehi for their comments on the performances.
Sharing a video, she called out the judge panel and took a stand for participants Nia Sharma and Rubina Dilayak. Shilpa tagged Karan, Madhuri, Nora and other members from the show and wrote, &lsquo;It&rsquo;s my humble request to all the judges of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.&rsquo;
In the clip, Shilpa talked about TV star Nia Sharma&rsquo;s performance, and the points and comments she received from the judges. Taking a jibe at KJo, she asked if the filmmaker was going to offer Nia a Dharma Productions film, based on how she performed that day. She further asked if Karan was going to hand the contestants an Oscar or National Award for their performance.
She elaborated how celebrity contestants go great lengths to give a flawless act, but judges still criticise their dance. She mentioned that all of them put all their heart and soul into the 3-minute dance. She said instead of being seen as an entertainment show, &lsquo;Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa&rsquo; is being treated as competition show.
She concluded her video by requesting the judging panel with joined hands to respect the performers and refrain from pointing out unnecessary mistakes.
Shilpa&rsquo;s brave move is being praised by the fans. However, &lsquo;Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa&rsquo; judges are yet to react to her comments.

Actor Madhuri Dixit is all set for her upcoming OTT film ‘Maja Ma’ and launched the trailer of the same with other co-actors. Following the trailer launch event, she opened up about how 90s heroines are doing much-evolved roles in films and series as compared to their male counterparts. She also spoke about how she’s enjoying this phase in her life as an actor doing projects for streaming platforms.
According to reports, she said, ‘It is always the case na. Women mature more than men (chuckles). You have to go to your higher intelligence and think about it. I cannot blame the heroes also because of the kind of commercial films that are made, they need to do a song, dance and all. So, they are always looking for something that keeps them young, which is not bad.’
Speaking about this phase of her as an actor, she praises the role she got to play. As reported by the Indian Express, Madhuri Dixit said, ‘I’ve been working throughout with Total Dhamaal, Kalank. Then The Fame Game happened and I felt I got a very good role to play. It had good depth. There were so many emotions. She’s a star, a mother, a wife. So, I am fortunate I’m getting these many roles. I’m enjoying it. ’She also talked about the OTT content and said, 'Stories are maturing, the audience is maturing, and storytelling is maturing. People are consuming better content. There are so many stories about women that are being made. Hence so many good roles for female actors.’
'Maja Ma’ directed by Anand Tiwari, stars actor Madhuri Dixit, and Gajraj Rao in key roles. Barkha Singh, Srishti Shrivastava, Rajit Kapur, Simone Singh, Sheeba Chaddha, Malhar Thakar and Ninad Kamat are also seen in the supporting cast. The film will stream on Amazon Prime Video from October 7.

Maja Ma trailer was released on Thursday, one day after the teaser for the movie came out. While the teaser shows conversations about a grand wedding, the trailer talks about the dysfunctional family that revolves around the character of the mother Pallavi Patel played by Madhuri Dixit.  
The trailer starts with Ritwik Bhowmick describing his family where he calls his mother ‘perfect.’ It is a typical Indian middle-class family. Madhuri's character Pallavi is a dance teacher. In the trailer, Rithik talks about his love, an NRI played by Barkha Singh to his mother Pallavi. The girl’s family is quite rich and agrees to the marriage after much drama.  
But on the eve of engagement, there is so much of drama as all get to know about mother Pallavi’s secret. The role of the mother in the movie is the one who is under the pressure of the society and has to give in to certain roles of society. But she stands for her on identity. In the trailer she is heard saying, that she is much more than the tags given by the society.
The film has Gajraj Rao laying the husband of Madhuri, Barkha Singh, Srishti Shrivastava, Rajit Kapur, Simone Singh, Sheeba Chaddha, Malhar Thakar and Ninad Kamat in the pivotal roles.  Fans really liked the trailer and are all love for Madhuri who is making a comeback after ‘Kalank’ that came in 2019.
Talking about her character Madhuri had earlier said, ‘I am thrilled to be a part of Prime Video’s first Indian Amazon Original Movie. With Maja Ma, what I am most excited about is my character. It is a role with complex nuances that I have never played before.’  
The movie is slated to release on October 6 this year.
