As the Bharatiya Janata Party is leading from New Delhi Lok Sabha seat, BJP workers imitated shaving the head of a man. The party workers were pretending to use a razor on the head of a bald man.&nbsp;
This was an apparent jibe at AAP's New Delhi candidate Somnath Bharti, who recently said that he would shave off his head if Narendra Modi secures a third term as the prime minister.

Sensex today fell over 6,000 points amid the counting trend that depicts lesser seats to the BJP led NDA than the exit poll predictions. This also marks the biggest intraday fall for Sensex in the last two years.&nbsp;
<h3>Road ahead for share market</h3>
As per analysts quoted by The Economic Times, if NDA's seat tally falls below 300 seats then the fall the share market is witnessing may just be the beginning of a short-term downtrend in the market.&nbsp;
Kranthi Bathini of WealthMills Securities told The Economic Times that the markets will face a big disappointment if the seat for NDA falls below 300.&nbsp;
"Following the exit poll results, the market had factored in around 350 seats for NDA and now if it falls below 300 then it would be a big disappointment for bulls," said Kranthi Bathini of WealthMills Securities told The Economic Times.
Meanwhile, some other analysts as quoted by The Economic Times are of the opinion that the market could be over-reacting to the trends.&nbsp;
"Due to physical counting under VVPAT, the process is slower this time around. I feel the market will once again get steady and high-beta stocks will be bought," said Dalal Street veteran investor Deven Choksey told The Economic Times.
<h3>Stocks under pressure</h3>
If the market falls further, PSU stocks are likely to be affected the most. On Tuesday, PSU bank stock fell by 15-20% with all the stock in the index seeing a double digit loss. Other PSU stocks like PFC, REC and BEL fell up to 20%.
Meanwhile, Dalal street's fear gauge India VIX jumped 40% to 29.79 to record its biggest single-day gain in 9 years.
As per The Economic Times, Analysts are of the opinion that retail investors should not rush in to buy the dip in today's market and wait for the froth to settle down.&nbsp;
"But I do not think it is the time to short. Go long on the high beta trade - Adanis, PSUs. Just be cautious there. Try and build your portfolio on stocks which are giving you momentum like HDFC twins, SBI Life, UltraTech, ABFRL and Vodafone Idea," market veteran Sanjiv Bhasin told The Economic Times.
The report further adds that this could be the first bear market for new investors who got attracted to stock investing after covid rally.
"New investors, especially those who entered the market after COVID-19, might not have experienced market corrections before. Since market movements are cyclical, errors during corrections can lead to substantial losses for inexperienced investors. Therefore, thorough research and effective risk management are crucial before making any investment decisions. Rushed or speculative investments could result in serious financial repercussions," said Vinnaayak Mehta, Founder of The Infinity Group.
The analysts also told The Economic Times that the election results may not affect the share market in the long run and the investors will soon start investing based on growth outlook and company earnings.

If exit polls are to be believed, the Congress is likely to retain its majority in Punjab in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, with AAP making no improvement.

Congress is likely to get a majority of seats in Punjab, where the grand old party contested separately from its ally Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), according to exit polls.
Despite AAP's thumping victory in the previous Assembly elections in Punjab, the party was unable to replicate its performance in the Lok Sabha polls.
According to the India Today-Axis My India exit poll, Punjab, the Congress is likely to get 7-9 of the 13 seats, with the AAP managing 2 at the most. The pollster has predicted 2 to 4 seats for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
ABP News-CVoter poll has also assigned the Congress the maximum seats at 6-8, with AAP getting 3-5, and BJP 1-3.
Times Now-ETG, meanwhile, has put the three parties almost at par -- Congress 5, AAP and BJP 4 each.&nbsp;

Exit polls in 2014 had not be able to predict the Modi Wave and a poll of polls of 8 surveyors had predicted that the BJP will end up just over the majority mark of 272.&nbsp;

As exit poll surveys have predicted a BJP sweep and the return of the Narendra Modi government, it is pertinent to recall how close close were the exit polls in the past two general elections, which is 2014 and 2019-- both won by the Narendra Modi-led BJP by huge margins. In 2014, an average of eight exit polls estimated the BJP-led NDA winning 283 seats and the Congress-led UPA 105 seats &ndash; failing to estimate the extent of the &lsquo;Modi wave&rsquo; that year. The NDA had finished with 336 seats and the UPA with a mere 60. Of these, the BJP won 282 and the Congress 44. In 2019, an average of 13 exit polls put the NDA&rsquo;s combined tally at 306 and the UPA&rsquo;s at 120 &ndash; again underestimating the NDA&rsquo;s performance, which won 353 seats in all. The UPA got 93. Of these, the BJP won 303, and the Congress 52.&nbsp;

The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday said after a record polling percentage in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar and Baramulla, the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat too has "shattered" the voter-turnout record with 53 per cent voters exercising their franchise, the highest in 40 years.
With this, the three seats in the Kashmir valley -- Srinagar (38.49 per cent), Baramulla (59.1 per cent) and Anantnag-Rajouri (53 per cent) -- have recorded the highest voter turnouts "in many decades", the poll panel said.
This was the first major election in the Union Territory following the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution by the Centre in August 2019.
The high voter turnout in the Anantnag-Rajouri seat was in sharp contrast to the poll percentage of 9 registered in the 2019 election.
Even the militancy-infested Zainapora Assembly segment, which registered a turnout of 2 per cent in 2019, recorded a poll percentage of 41.
Addressing reporters in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pandurang Kundbarao Pole said the voter turnout in Anantnag-Rajouri was 53 per cent.
He said the overall voter turnout for the five Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir stood at 58 per cent.
"It is the highest turnout for these five seats in the last 40 years. The previous high was 49 per cent recorded in 2014, while the turnout in 1996 was 47.99 per cent," Pole added.
He said the Surankote, Rajouri and Budhal Assembly segments recorded the highest turnout of 68 per cent.
The Kulgam Assembly segment recorded the lowest poll percentage of 32.
Pole said the polling was by and large peaceful, with no violence reported from anywhere.
Officials said barring an isolated incident in Bijbehara, polling was smooth across the Lok Sabha constituency that comprises 18 Assembly segments and is spread over the five districts of Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, Poonch and Rajouri.
In a delimitation exercise carried out in Jammu and Kashmir in 2022, Pulwama district and the Shopian Assembly segment were removed from the south Kashmir Lok Sabha seat, while seven Assembly segments from Poonch and Rajouri were added to it.
Earlier in the day, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar told PTI Videos that encouraged by the voter turnout in Jammu and Kashmir, the EC will "very soon" initiate the process of holding Assembly polls in the Union Territory.
He also said the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve their own government.
"People of Jammu and Kashmir, in the Anantnag-Rajouri polling too, have reposed faith in democracy and proved naysayers wrong," the EC said in a statement.
According to the poll panel, the erstwhile Anantnag seat recorded the lowest turnout of 5.07 per cent in 1989 and 50.2 per cent in 1996.
Due to the delimitation exercise, the voter turnout data from previous elections for the current Anantnag-Rajouri seat may not be directly comparable, the EC noted.
A total of 20 candidates, including two women, were in the fray from Anantnag-Rajouri.
People's Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti contested the polls from Anantnag-Rajouri. She was up against the National Conference's (NC) Mian Altaf Ahmad. Apni Party's Zafar Iqbal Manhas was also among the 20 candidates in the fray.
In the 11 Assembly segments falling in the Kashmir valley, the poll percentage was around 42.
The EC had also enabled the Kashmiri migrant voters residing at various relief camps in Delhi, Jammu and Udhampur to have the option of voting in person at the designated special polling stations or through postal ballots. A total of 21 special polling stations were set up in Jammu, one in Udhampur and four in Delhi.&nbsp;

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday launched a blistering attack on Lalu Prasad, alleging that the RJD chief neither worked for the welfare of backward classes nor the people belonging to his caste &lsquo;Yadav&rsquo;.
While addressing an election rally in favour of senior BJP leader and Union Minister R K Singh in Arrah, Shah said if Prasad, as part of the "arrogant" INDIA bloc, comes to power, "jungle raj, abduction, and gang war will return to Bihar".
"People don&rsquo;t want the return of 'jungle raj', gang war and abduction industry in Bihar. Lalu neither worked for the welfare of backward classes nor the people belonging to his own caste &lsquo;Yadav&rsquo;. They are under the wrong impression that Lalu works for them," Shah said.
"Lalu Ji allowed his two sons to become ministers, sent one daughter to Rajya Sabha, and another is contesting the Lok Sabha polls. He made his wife the chief minister of Bihar....He promotes only his sons and daughters. He can&rsquo;t think for the welfare of people belonging to his own caste," Shah said.
The BJP leader accused the Congress and the RJD of "trying to rob reservation from the quotas of SCs, STs and OBCs and give such benefits to Muslims".
"The NDA under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji will not allow this to happen. Congress, Lalu Prasad and Mamata Banerjee are against reservations to backward classes," he alleged.
"They have been exposed&rdquo;, he said, referring to a Calcutta High Court order that cancelled OBC certificates issued in the state since 2010.
The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday struck down as illegal the OBC status of several classes in West Bengal granted since 2010, sparking a political debate in the middle of the Lok Sabha elections.
The court observed that the inclusion of 77 classes of Muslims in the list of backward categories was to &ldquo;treat them as a vote bank&rdquo; Shah also said, "If CPI-ML (Liberation) candidate wins from Arrah Lok Sabha seat, Naxalism will once again return to Bihar." RK Singh, as a BJP candidate, is seeking re-election from the Arrah Lok Sabha constituency, while CPI-ML (Liberation) nominated Sudama Prasad as a 'Mahagathbandhan' candidate.
Voting will take place in Arrah on June 1.

Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav claimed on Thursday that the BJP will lose all the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, including 'Kyoto wale'.
Over 140 crore population of the country will make the BJP-led NDA lose 400 seats to the opposition and ensure that the remaining 143 seats also become difficult for them, Yadav said.
'Earlier, I had said the BJP is heading to lose all seats except for the one of 'Kyoto wale' (Modi's Varanasi seat). But with time it seems that seat is also slipping out of their hands and the saffron party will taste defeat in all the 80 seats in UP,' Yadav said.
His 'Kyoto wale' remark was in reference to a memorandum of understanding signed between India and Japan in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and his then Japanese counterpart late Shinzo Abe at Osaka in 2014 to turn Varanasi into a 'smart city' with the help from Kyoto.
Yadav said the SP and the Congress 'have become 11 from one and one' causing tension for the 'Delhi wale' (Modi government at the Centre).
Apparently replying to Prime Minister Modi who referred to Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi as 'shehzade' (princes), the SP president said, 'We will give them 'sheh' and 'maat' (vocabulary used in chess for defeat).'
Yadav said the prices of petrol, diesel and fertiliser have been soaring during the present rule and promised loan waiver for the farmers in the future opposition coalition government. He also promised filling 30 lakh vacant posts in the government departments if the INDIA bloc comes to power.

Lok Sabha 2024| 25% BJP candidates defectors, joined party in last ten years: report

According to a TOI report, 90 BJP candidates are turncoats.

Almost a quarter of BJP candidates contesting in Lok Sabha election 2024 are defectors.
According to a TOI report published on May 15, out of 435 BJP candidates, 106 joined the party in last ten years.
This include heavyweight candidates like Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasada and Naveen Jindal from the Congress.
The highest proportion of such candidates is in Andhra Pradesh, where BJP has fielded six candidates. In Uttar Pradesh, 31% of the party's candidates are defectors. 90 of these candidates have made the switch in just the past five years, TOI said.&nbsp;

A video of former UP Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief, Akhilesh Yadav is being widely shared on social media claiming that people threw shoes and slippers at him during a rally in Kannauj.
The caption with the video in Hindi reads: 'Akhilesh Yadav welcomed in Kannauj with shoes and slippers'
FACT CHECK NewsMobile fact-checked the claim attached to the video post and found it to be misleading. We started our investigation with a keyword search on Google, but we found no article reporting the incident. On closely observing the video, we noticed a watermark of an Instagram handle (@vikashyadavauraiyawale).
Upon scanning through the Instagram handle we found the clearer version of the same video posted on May 2nd, 2024. Upon a thorough frame-by-frame analysis of the video, it became evident that flowers and garlands were being thrown toward Akhilesh Yadav, rather than shoes and slippers. Nowhere in the entirety of the video are shoes and slippers visible.
Hence, with the above findings, it can be concluded that no shoes and slippers were hurled at Akhilesh Yadav and the video is being shared with a false claim.

Voter turnout across 96 Lok Sabha seats stood at 40.32% till 1 pm on Monday. West Bengal registered the highest turnout with 51.87%, followed by Jharkhand at 43.80% and Telangana at 40.38%. The lowest turnout was reported in Jammu and Kashmir at 23.57% and Maharashtra at 30.85%.&nbsp;
A total of 1,717 candidates are in the fray in the Lok Sabha seats. More than 19 lakh polling officials have been deployed at 1.92 lakh polling stations for the over 17.70 crore eligible voters, including 8.73 women, in this round of the seven-phase polls.&nbsp;
So far, till phase three of the Lok Sabha elections, polling has concluded in 283 seats out of 543.
Polling is being held in all 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana, all 25 seats in Andhra Pradesh, 13 in Uttar Pradesh, five in Bihar, four in Jharkhand, eight in Madhya Pradesh, 11 in Maharashtra, four in Odisha, eight in West Bengal and one in Jammu and Kashmir.

Case against Allu Arjun&nbsp;
Actor Allu Arjun and YSRCP MLA Ravi Chandra Kishore Reddy have been booked for allegedly breaching the Model Code of Conduct in Andhra Pradesh's Nandyala. They are accused of permitting a large public gathering at the MLA's residence that violates the Code ahead of the state elections.
MLA Reddy allegedly invited Allu Arjun to the gathering on Saturday without prior permission, resulting in a case being filed against them for violating the poll code.
About the fourth phase of polling
Voting began at 7 am on Monday across 17 seats in Telangana in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The battleground features the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Congress, and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
The Telangana DGP stated that a substantial security force comprising 73,000 civil police personnel, 500 sections of state special police, 164 companies of CAPF, three companies of Tamil Nadu police, 2,088 officials from other departments, and 7,000 home guards has been deployed for polling day security.
Key candidates include Union Minister and Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Etala Rajender, Madhavi Latha, K Kavya, and Asaduddin Owaisi.

A village in Baramati recorded a 95 per cent voter turnout as a polling booth was set up in Burudmal for the first time since Independence.&nbsp;

Nonagenarian Baburao Akhade was among 41 eligible voters from the remote hamlet Burudmal under Baramati Lok Sabha constituency in Maharashtra who for the first time didn't have to trek 12 km to cast their votes, which was the case until 2019 elections.
Voting was held for 11 of 48 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state in the third phase on Tuesday.
This is the first time that officials established a polling station in a nearby school for eligible electors enabling us to take part in the festival of democracy- elections, in our hamlet.
Located 35 km away from Bhor town in Velhe tehsil of Pune district, Burudmal is the smallest polling station with 41 eligible voters under the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency.
By 3 pm on Tuesday, 39 voters, including a first-timer, had exercised their franchise, registering a 95 per cent turnout.
"This has happened for the first time in our lifetime that a polling station has been set up near our houses here in Burudmal. Till the last elections, we all had to go on foot to Sangvi Velvade Khore (valley) to cast votes, which is almost 12 km from here," said 90-year-old Akhade, the senior-most voter among the flock.
But this time, a polling station was set up in a school, located just next to our houses, giving us much-required comfort in the scorching summer heat, he said.
A youngster, Mahesh Gore claimed this is for the first time after Independence that a polling station was established in the hamlet.
"Earlier, we used to trek and cross two rivers on a boat to reach the polling station, which was 12-km away. Voters, including senior citizens and women, used to find it difficult to get there.
"Considering all these hardships, we had appealed to the Sub-Divisional Officer, Bhor division, to set up a polling station. The administration acted swiftly. Today, 40 of the 41 voters exercised their franchise here," he said.
According to villagers, the population of Burudmal is 150 and most of the young residents work in Mumbai.
"But more than 20 voters hired a bus from Maharashtra's capital city and reached Burudmal just to cast their votes," they said.
Priyanka Akhade, who works in Mumbai was part of the group.
"I am voting for the first time. I am very fortunate that I could vote in the polling station in my village," she said. Another voter, Laxman Akhade, said he was feeling very happy for his 90-year-old father who got the chance to cast his vote in his hamlet.
"Since the government provided us the polling station, we showed our commitment by doing 100 per cent voting," he said.
Bhausaheb Turkunde, a lone teacher who works at the Zilla Parishad primary school in Burudmal, said the terrain is difficult.
"Most of the times, people living here had to trek to nearby villages to bring goods but a motorable road has been built now," he said.
Rajendra Kachare, sub-divisional officer, said they were moved by the determination of villagers to participate in the voting process.
"As per the guidance from our returning officer (for Baramati constituency) Kavita Dwivedi, a polling station was set up here. 95 per cent of voters cast their franchise at the polling station," he said.&nbsp;

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday claimed though the RSS is now saying they are not against reservations, however, they had earlier spoken about opposing quotas.
Addressing a campaign rally at Daman in the Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Gandhi also said the RSS and BJP are trying to destroy the Constitution and various institutions to make their leaders "kings" of the country.
"The RSS is today saying that they are not against reservations, but earlier they had said that they oppose reservations", he said.
Notably, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat earlier in the day said in Hyderabad that the organisation has always supported reservations as per the Constitution.
Gandhi said the fight between the Congress and the RSS-BJP is ideological and sought votes for "protecting" the Constitution.
"The Constitution has served as the foundation, the seed from which these institutions have emerged. They want to destroy the Constitution, they want to destroy democracy, and different institutions, and make the RSS-BJP kings (leaders) as the kings of the country," the Congress leader said.
At the foundational level, the ideology of the RSS-BJP is to destroy the Constitution, while that of the Congress is to protect it, he said.
"At the foundational level, the difference (between the two ideologies) is that we are protecting the Constitution and all that it has offered to India. On the other hand, the target of the RSS and the BJP is to destroy the Constitution anyhow," he said.&nbsp;
