In a standout performance at Edgbaston, Shubman Gill achieved his maiden 150  runs in Test cricket while Ravindra Jadeja supported strongly with 89, guiding India to an imposing 419/6 as England's bowlers struggled to breakthrough.

Shubman Gill crossed 150 for the first time in his career while Ravindra Jadeja made a fine 89, pushing India to 419 for six at lunch on day two of the second Test against England here on Thursday. The England pacers were not able to extract much from the surface as Gill (168 batting off 288 balls) and Jadeja (89 off 137) made most of the ideal batting conditions with a 203-run stand off 279 balls.
Resuming the day from 310 for five, India added 109 runs to the total in 25 overs.
The Gill-led side would aim to press home the advantage in the second session and not allow England to bounce back to the contest like they did in Leeds.
With no help from the pitch, England had resorted to the short ball plan against Gill and Jadeja but that did not work for a major part of the morning session.
Josh Tongue finally got the much-needed breakthrough late in the session with a short ball that Jadeja could not control to be caught by wicket-keeper Jamie Smith.
Amid bright sunshine at Edgbaston, Jadeja resumed his innings with a crisp back-foot punch through the cover and a cut off Ben Stokes.
Gill got his first boundary of the day through the third man region before cover driving Chris Woakes.
It was surprising to see Gill play the reverse sweep off spinner Shoaib Bashir.
Later in the session, Gill also swept Bashir for a six behind square. Jadeja too got into the act and stepped out to smash Bashir for a maximum over mid on.
Stokes set an interesting field when Washington Sundar joined Gill in the middle, employing a leg slip and two close in fielders on the leg-side.
The extra bounce that Tongue was able to generate posed an immediate threat to Sundar.

Virender Sehwag has pointed out a major problem with the current Indian cricket team which he believes has led to players getting injured frequently.
During a chat with Cricbuzz, the former India skipper said that India's problems are the injuries that didn't happen on the cricket field. 'Hardik Pandya got injured while bowling. Most of the players are getting injured at the gym or outside the match. We didn't see Jadeja getting injured on a cricket field.' In what will be a major blow for Team India, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in all likelihood will miss the T20 World Cup due to his knee injury.
According to a PTI report, Jadeja will have to undergo a major knee surgery that will keep him out of action for a much longer period than what was expected earlier.
The BCCI is still awaiting confirmation whether it’s a case of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). An ACL issue would mean Jadeja won’t be available for the rest of 2022 at least, if not longer.
The report also states the BCCI doesn’t want to put a timeline on Jadeja's return before he is assessed by the medical team at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
The all-rounder has already been replaced by Axar Patel in the Asia Cup squad but his unavailability for the T20 World Cup will be a big, big loss for Team India.

In a big setback to Chennai's faint playoffs qualification hopes, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2022.
 In a press statement, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) confirmed that Ravindra Jadeja was under observation for a bruised rib and now based on medical advice he has been ruled out for the rest of the IPL 2022 season.

As MS Dhoni returned to lead the Chennai Super Kings once again in the Indian Premier League, he became the oldest captain to lead a team in the league. Speaking after the match, MSD explained the sudden change in leadership in the CSK. He said that Jadeja who took over the responsibilities from him was facing a lot of pressure and that was affecting his game.

Ravindra Jadeja, who has been out since the 2nd Test vs New Zealand in late November, is all set to make a return to Team India. The all-rounder was in rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and is now almost certain to be included in the 2-match Test series vs Sri Lanka. 
According to a report in Cricinfo, if all goes well, Jadeja is likely to play the 3-match T20 series as well which is scheduled before the 2 Tests. The report added that he is already quarantining in Lucknow, which is the venue for the 1st T20 vs Sri Lanka on February 24. Apart from him, Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the ODI and T20 series vs the West Indies, will also return. 
Cricbuzz also reported that Virat Kohli might be rested for the T20I series. However, the former skipper will return for the Tests, which means his 100th Test could be in Mohali.

The Indian all-rounder posted videos of him grinding it out in the gym and captioned it 'Don't stop.' Jadeja suffered a right forearm injury during the 1st Test vs New Zealand in Kanpur and was hence ruled out of the 2nd Test in Mumbai and the following South Africa series. 
Rohit Sharma, who was appointed as the white-ball captain, also injured his hamstring and is currently training at the NCA to regain fitness.
