Delhi Capitals encountered a significant setback when their leading fast bowler, Ishant Sharma, sustained an injury during the game against Punjab Kings. Sharma, who had showcased exceptional bowling early in the Punjab innings by dismissing PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan and contributing to Jonny Bairstow's return to the pavilion through skillful fielding, faced an unfortunate turn of events towards the end of the powerplay.
The incident occurred as Ishant moved from his position at mid-on towards his right in an attempt to intercept the ball. In the process, it appeared that he twisted his ankle, leading to immediate discomfort and pain. The situation necessitated the swift intervention of physio Patrick Farhart, who rushed to Ishant's aid as he lay on the ground.
Despite the efforts to address the injury on the field, it became evident that Ishant would not be able to continue playing. Assisted by support on both shoulders, the pacer made his way off the field, visibly hampered by the injury. The severity of Ishant Sharma's condition remains unclear, but DC fans will be hoping it's not a season-threatening injury.

Despite Rishabh Pant showing decent progress in his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, Indian pacer Ishant Sharma feels that the wicketkeeper-batter won't be able to get match fit for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India this year.
Speaking to JioCinema, Ishant said he doesn't think we would get to see Pant in the next Indian Premier League as well due to the severity of his injury let alone for the World Cup this year.
&ldquo;I feel we might not see Rishabh Pant in the next IPL as well because it is not a small injury. It was a very serious accident. He has just started batting and wicketkeeping and to run and turn after that, there are a lot of things, which is not easy for a wicketkeeper and a batter,&rdquo; said Ishant.
&ldquo;The good thing is that he didn't have a second surgery. If he had undergone a second surgery, he would have been out for even longer. He has had one surgery now but I don't think he will be fit for the World Cup for sure. Hopefully, if he gets fit for the IPL, it will be great,&rdquo; Ishant added.

Opening up on the saga, Ishant Sharma, who was Shami's teammate then, told Cricbuzz that the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) had approached all the players, and asked us whether Shami could do match-fixing or not.
Ishant revealed that he told ACU, 'I don't know Shami's personal things but I'm 200 per cent sure he can't do that because I know him that well.'

Sharma, who is only the second pacer to have played 100 tests for Team India after Zaheer Khan feels that the only way to prevent injuries is to bowl as much and long as possible.
"The only thing I would say right now is: 'Do not think too much about the workload'. That's a new term that's come up in recent times, especially for fast bowlers. I never saw something like that during my international stint." Ishant Sharma said.
"If you want to improve, the only thing you can do is to keep bowling," he further added.

Currently, there are only three Indian players in the A+ category - Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma &amp; Jasprit Bumrah. While there are 5 players in the A category - R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul &amp; Mohd Shami.

Out of favour Team India Test specialists, Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma, are expected to face the axe from BCCI central contracts list during the board's Apex Council meeting which is to be held on December 21.&nbsp;
One of the main agendas of the meeting is the 'Retainership contract' for both Indian men and women cricketers.
Wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha will also be removed from the contracts list as he was specifically told at the start of the year that he won't be selected for India again.
Meanwhile, there are others who will most likely earn promotions, namely opener Shubman Gill &amp; World No. 1 T20 batter Suryakumar Yadav, who are currently in the 'C' category.
Hardik Pandya, who many expect could take the reins from Rohit Sharma in T20s, is also expected to be promoted from Grade C to B, only a year after his demotion from Grade A to C, when he wasn't playing regularly for Team India.
An A+ contract offers Rs 7 crore, Group A Rs 5 crore, Group B Rs 3 crore and Rs Group C offers Rs 1 crore to the cricketers as an annual retainer fee.

The southpaw from Jharkhand used to play for the Mumbai Indians up till now but a poor strike rate of 120 and fitness issues might have gone against the 32-year-old. Though he still has a few years to bounce back but chances of that look very bleak.

Another Indian pacer who will not feature in this year's IPL is Dhawal Kulkarni. The fast bowler from Mumbai may be a force in domestic cricket but it seems that franchises don't want to invest their trust in him anymore. As per a report published in the Times of India, the Team management is very eager to play pacer Mohammad Siraj&nbsp;in the final XI. However, it will be a prickly scenario as after quite a while, Ishant&nbsp;Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad&nbsp;Shami&nbsp;are all available for selection. The report further suggested that Sharma&nbsp;might be asked to rest if Siraj&nbsp;does well in the training sessions.&nbsp; The Indian team had its first outdoor group training session on Thursday. The players are currently practising in groups of 3-4 before their soft quarantine period gets over.&nbsp;

If the team reaches the final and then goes on to win it, it will be the same feeling as winning the World Cup, he added.&nbsp;&nbsp;
