Donald Trump threatens to sue Grammy host Trevor Noah over a joke linking him to Jeffrey Epstein during the 68th awards ceremony.

Donald Trump threatened legal action on Monday against the host of the 68th Grammy Awards over the comedian's comment on the US president and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
After congratulating Billie Eilish for winning the Grammy for Song of the Year for her track "Wildflower," host Trevor Noah brought up Trump and Epstein.
"Wow. That's a Grammy that every artist wants -- almost as much as Trump wants Greenland," he quipped, referring to the president's threats to seize the autonomous Arctic territory.
Noah then added: "Which makes sense because, since Epstein's gone, he needs a new island to hang out with Bill Clinton."
Noah, who announced that this will be his final year hosting the Grammys after six turns as emcee, has been light on political commentary in previous years.
His comments drew the ire of the president, who took to his Truth Social platform first saying that the "Grammy Awards are the WORST and virtually unwatchable," before criticizing Noah.
"I can't speak for Bill, but I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close, and until tonight&rsquo;s false and defamatory, statement, have never been accused of being there, not even by the Fake News Media," Trump asserted.
The Republican then branded South African Noah a "total loser" who needs to "get his facts straight."
"I'll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C. ... Get ready Noah, I'm going to have some fun with you!" Trump added.
Trump, who moved in the same social circles as Epstein in Florida and New York, has fought for months to prevent the release of a vast trove of documents about the disgraced financier and has given varying accounts of why he eventually fell out with Epstein.
More than three million documents were released on Friday that included mention of numerous powerful figures, including the 79-year-old president, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton and former prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

Bad Bunny meanwhile earned cheers as he delivered a powerful political message, ripping the nationwide immigration raids that have polarized America.
The three music heavyweights are each hoping to take home the gala's most coveted award, Album of the Year, for the first time.
"Before I say thanks to God, I'm gonna say 'ICE out'," Bad Bunny said as he accepted the award for best musica urbana album for his "Debi Tirar Mas Fotos" ("I Should Have Taken More Photos").
"We're not savages, we're not animals, we're not aliens; we are humans and we are Americans," the 31-year-old Puerto Rican singer said, one week before he takes one of the world's biggest stages, headlining the Super Bowl halftime show.
It was a big moment on a night of hard-hitting performances, poignant speeches and one-liners from six-time host Trevor Noah.
Lamar scooped up four awards in the rap categories including best rap album for "GNX," while Gaga won for best pop vocal album and best dance pop recording.
"I just want to say for women in music that I know sometimes when you're in the studio with a bunch of guys, it can be hard. So I urge you to always listen to yourself and always fight for your ideas," Lady Gaga said.
Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O'Connell won for Song of the Year with "Wildflower," and Britain's Olivia Dean was crowned Best New Artist.

"I'm not good at talking about myself, but I express it through the music. It's an honor to be here," said Lamar, a Pulitzer Prize winner.
The 38-year-old California native, who won five Grammys last year thanks to his smash diss track "Not Like Us," is also up for Record of the Year for "Luther" featuring R&amp;B artist SZA.
Standing in Lamar's way for Album of the Year is Bad Bunny, who is in the middle of a world tour, just months after a hugely successful residency in San Juan.
His "Un verano sin ti" (2022) was the first Spanish-language album nominated for Album of the Year honors. A win on Sunday would give Bad Bunny another mention in the history books.
Lady Gaga, 39, made a splashy comeback to touring with "Mayhem," her collection of pop bangers with a dark edge that embraces her dramatic side. She has seven nominations.
A win for Album of the Year would complete her hat trick of top awards.
She took Record and Song of the Year honors seven years ago for the soundtrack hit "Shallow," from "A Star is Born" -- which also earned her an Oscar.
Also nominated for Album of the Year are: pop princess Sabrina Carpenter; R&amp;B singer-songwriter Leon Thomas; Tyler, the Creator; hip-hop duo Clipse (Pusha T and Malice); and Bieber -- with his first studio effort in four years.

Noah repeatedly joked with the 31-year-old Latin megastar, born Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, about not performing due to Super Bowl contractual restrictions -- and even sang a few bars in Spanish himself before Bad Bunny indulged with a short verse.
K-pop singer Rose and Bruno Mars kicked off the proceedings with a high-octane performance of "APT.," before Noah took to the stage.
Lady Gaga offered an energetic version of "Abracadabra" and Justin Bieber stripped to his boxers for his turn on stage.
Reba McEntire and Lauryn Hill sang in honor of those who died over the last year in the world of music. Late rocker Ozzy Osbourne's wife Sharon and children Kelly and Jack looked on as Post Malone paid tribute.
"Golden," from the Netflix animated smash hit "KPop Demon Hunters," won the prize for best song written for visual media, and top Oscar nominee "Sinners" won two soundtrack awards.

Beyonce on Sunday finally won the Grammy for the year's best album for her culture-shaking "Cowboy Carter," as rapper Kendrick Lamar posted a clean sweep on a night that served as a love letter to fire-ravaged Los Angeles.
Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, Doechii and Sabrina Carpenter emerged as big winners at the performance-heavy gala, while heavyweights Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish went home empty-handed.
Beyonce's win for "Cowboy Carter" now makes her the most nominated, most decorated artist at the awards show ever -- as well as the first Black woman to claim the top prize in this century.
The triumph was all the more relevant as the 43-year-old's ambitious, historically rooted album elevated and showcased the work of Black artists in country music, whose rich contributions the industry has repeatedly sidelined.
"I just feel very full and very honored," she said, her husband Jay-Z and daughter Blue Ivy cheering from the crowd of A-listers at Crypto.com Arena.
She dedicated the prize to Linda Martell, a pioneering Black country musician featured on the album.
"I hope we just keep pushing forward, opening doors," Beyonce said.
The win brought Beyonce's total Grammys on the night to three: she also won for her collaboration with Miley Cyrus, and snagged the best country album trophy.
"I really was not expecting this," she said as she accepted that prize, her voice audibly shaking. "Sometimes genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists."
"I just want to encourage people to do what they're passionate about and to stay persistent," she added.
 - Lamar, Chappell Roan own the stage -
Hip-hop laureate Lamar cleaned up thanks to his smash diss track "Not Like Us," one of a series of songs from the Los Angeles-area native that skewer rap rival Drake.
He won in all five categories in which he was nominated, including Record and Song of the Year. He lost only to himself -- he was twice up for two of the rap genre prizes.
"Nothing more powerful than rap music," the 37-year-old Lamar said in accepting the top song trophy. "We are the culture."
"Not Like Us" shattered streaming records, catapulted to the top of the charts and quickly became a West Coast rap anthem, beloved for its pounding bass line, rhythmic strings and exaggerated enunciation.
Lamar dedicated his best record win to his hometown, which is still reeling from the fires that razed whole neighborhoods and left thousands of people displaced.
The coveted prize for Best New Artist went to Chappell Roan, capping a meteoric year for the Midwestern artist who went from struggling singer to music's It girl seemingly overnight.
But in a powerful acceptance speech, she recounted how it wasn't always easy -- she was dropped from her label during the pandemic and struggled to find work.
Roan demanded that labels provide artists with a "livable wage and health care."
"Record labels need to treat their artists as valuable employees," she said. "Labels, we got you, but do you got us?"
 - 'Anything is possible' -
Doechii emerged as another big winner, becoming just the third woman to ever win the prize for best rap album. The second-ever winner, Cardi B, presented her with the prize.
"Anything is possible," Doechii said as she accepted the trophy through tears, speaking directly to Black girls and women like herself.
"Don't allow anybody to project any stereotypes on you that tell you that you can't be here, that you're too dark or that you're not smart enough, or that you're too dramatic or you're too loud," she said.
"You are exactly who you need to be."
Sabrina Carpenter won for best pop vocal album, her second award of the night that followed a slapstick, Old Hollywood-inspired performance of her nominated hits "Espresso" and "Please Please Please."
Shakira scooped Best Latin Pop Album, before delivering a jaw-dropping performance of her classics and new work, gyrating around the room.
And Charli XCX won three prizes including best dance/electronic album for her summer-defining "Brat" before a banging performance at the end of the night.
 - 'Love you, LA' -
Sunday's gala was an homage to the city of Los Angeles.
Yet it was not a somber evening but rather one of warmth, celebrating first responders while urging donations. Host Trevor Noah said at least $7 million was raised from viewers for wildfire relief.
Top LA County firefighters presented Beyonce with her big award, while students who lost their schools sang with Stevie Wonder on "We Are The World" as part of the tribute to the late music powerhouse Quincy Jones.
The show opened with a supergroup including Sheryl Crow and John Legend performing Randy Newman's track "I Love LA," while Eilish sang her hit "Birds of a Feather" in an LA Dodgers baseball cap.

Who is Chandrika Tandon?
Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon is a renowned Indian-American musician and business executive, widely recognized for her contributions to both the corporate world and the arts. She is also the elder sister of Indra Nooyi, the former CEO of PepsiCo.
Born and raised in Chennai, Tandon studied at Madras Christian College before earning a master&rsquo;s degree from IIM Ahmedabad, where she became one of only eight women admitted to the prestigious institution. She later made history as the first Indian-American woman to become a partner at McKinsey &amp; Company.
Despite a successful corporate career, Tandon pursued her passion for music, training in Hindustani, Carnatic, and Western classical traditions. She released her debut album Soul Call in 2009, which received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary World Music Album in 2011.

The Grammys, slated for February 2, will "proceed as planned" despite the devastating fires scorching Los Angeles, the Recording Academy said Monday.
In a letter to Academy members obtained by AFP, organizers said the 67th annual music awards gala would take place at the Crypto.com Arena in downtown LA "in close coordination with local authorities to ensure public safety and responsible use of area resources."
"This year's show, however, will carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours," Academy head Harvey Mason Jr said in the letter, which was co-signed by Board of Trustees chair Tammy Hurt.
"The Grammys will not only honor the artistry and achievements of our music community but also serve as a platform to amplify the spirit of resilience that defines this great city of Los Angeles," Mason and Hurt said.
The marquee televised portion of the gala will still air on CBS.
Top nominees include Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Kendrick Lamar.
At least 24 people have died, tens of thousands of people are displaced, and swaths of Los Angeles sit in ruins nearly a week after fires broke out when extreme winds spread flames across arid Southern California, crippling the city and razing entire communities.
In response, the Recording Academy and its philanthropic arm MusiCares launched a relief effort with an initial $1 million donation supporting impacted music industry workers.
The letter said additional donations had allowed for the organization to distribute more than $2 million in emergency aid thus far.

Anita was with the Oakland-based group 'The Pointer Sisters' from its formation in 1969 until she was forced to retire due to health reasons in 2015.

Anita Pointer, from the Grammy-winning Pointer Sisters, died at the age of 74 on December 31. Her publicist Rogher Neal announced the news via a statement. He said she passed away while she was with family members at her Beverley Hills home in California. The cause of death was not immediately revealed
&lsquo;While we are deeply saddened by the loss of Anita, we are comforted in knowing she is now with her daughter Jada and her sisters June &amp; Bonnie and at peace. She was the one that kept all of us close and together for so long,&rsquo; her sister Ruth, brothers Aaron and Fritz and granddaughter Roxie McKain Pointer said in the statement.

The Pointer Sisters also was the first African American group to perform on the Grand Ole Opry program and the first contemporary act to perform at the San Francisco Opera House, he added.

Last month, when the globally respected Oscar awards failed to mention the legendary Lata Mangeshkar and the thespian Dilip Kumar in its ‘In Memoriam’ section, it had upset many all over. This time round, it was none other than Grammy Awards (no less!) which failed to pay tributes to the eternal melody queen Lata Mangeshkar as well as the well-known musician Bhappi Lahiri, who had passed away this year. To everyone’s disappointment, neither of the two names got a mention in the ‘In Memoriam’ segment of the Grammy awards show, which was held at MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada this year.
Seeing the names of the late Lata Mangeshkar and Bhappi Lahiri missing from the list of tributes, netizens all over got really upset and angry. Many even took to the social media and slammed this year’s Grammy awards. While one user commented that ‘Lataji was a bigger star than everyone on that Grammy stage tonight’, there was another who commented that ‘forgetting Lata Mangeshkar was a huge failure by the Grammy award organizers.
The ones whose names were mentioned in this year’s ‘In Memoriam’ section included the late Stephen Sondheim (Broadway composer), Tom Parker, Taylor Hawkins amongst others.

During the Oscar award ceremony last week, Mangeshkar as well as stalwart actor Dilip Kumar had been left out of the 'In Memoriam' segment. Dilip Kumar passed away on July 7, 2021.
