Chandrika Tandon wins Grammy for best new age album with Triveni

Indian-American vocalist and entrepreneur Chandrika Tandon makes history at the 2025 Grammy Awards, winning in the Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album category for her album Triveni.

At the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, held on February 2 in Los Angeles, Chandrika Tandon won the Grammy for Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album for her latest release, Triveni. She shared this milestone with collaborators Wouter Kellerman and Eru Matsumoto, marking a historic moment for Indian representation on the global music stage.

Tandon, an accomplished Indian-American business leader, philanthropist, and musician, attended the prestigious event in a traditional silk salwar kurta, accessorized with her signature necklace. Among the few Indian-origin artists to receive nominations this year, she joined the ranks of Ricky Kej, Anoushka Shankar, and Radhika Vekaria, who were also contenders in their respective categories.

Who is Chandrika Tandon?

Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon is a renowned Indian-American musician and business executive, widely recognized for her contributions to both the corporate world and the arts. She is also the elder sister of Indra Nooyi, the former CEO of PepsiCo.

Born and raised in Chennai, Tandon studied at Madras Christian College before earning a master’s degree from IIM Ahmedabad, where she became one of only eight women admitted to the prestigious institution. She later made history as the first Indian-American woman to become a partner at McKinsey & Company.

Despite a successful corporate career, Tandon pursued her passion for music, training in Hindustani, Carnatic, and Western classical traditions. She released her debut album Soul Call in 2009, which received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary World Music Album in 2011.

Grammy-Winning Album Triveni
Released on August 30, 2024, Triveni is an immersive musical experience featuring seven tracks:

🎵 Pathway to Light
🎵 Chant in A
🎵 Journey Within
🎵 Aether’s Serenade
🎵 Ancient Moon
🎵 Open Sky
🎵 Seeking Shakti

The album, which blends Indian spiritual chants with modern ambient sounds, has been widely appreciated for its meditative and soul-stirring compositions.

A Trailblazer in Music, Business, and Philanthropy

Beyond music, Tandon has been a prominent figure in business and philanthropy. She has contributed significantly to education, arts, and social initiatives, making a lasting impact in both corporate leadership and the creative world.

Her Grammy win solidifies her status as a trailblazer, bridging the gap between Indian classical music and global contemporary sounds.
