Although price adjustments are a common practice once a year,&nbsp;this is&nbsp;Chanel&rsquo;s&nbsp;fourth or fifth price hike on&nbsp;certain&nbsp;products since the start of the pandemic.

For instance, the price of Chanel&rsquo;s&nbsp;small classic flap bag&nbsp;has increased by 60 per cent since November 2019, now costing $8,200 or around&nbsp;₹6,18,000.&nbsp;The larger variant of the same bag costs&nbsp;$9,500 (₹7,15,000), up from $7,400 (₹5,57,000) in June 2021.
For&nbsp;some&nbsp;perspective, the infamously expensive Birkin&nbsp;by&nbsp;French luxury brand&nbsp;Herm&egrave;s&nbsp;now costs about $115 (₹8,600), less than the medium-sized Chanel flap bag.

Chanel says the hikes are in response to unspecified exchange-rate fluctuations, changes in production costs and to ensure its handbags cost roughly the same around the world.
Industry experts say essentially&nbsp;Chanel&nbsp;wants&nbsp;to become more exclusive, as part of an effort to become as or even more iconic than the Birkin or Kelly bag by&nbsp;long-time&nbsp;rival Herm&egrave;s.

Costing around US$400 to US$600 (or Rs. 30,000 to 45,000), the&nbsp;dreamy cocktail coats are made using premium fabrics with couture-style detailing like&nbsp;satin piping, marabou feather trims, intricate embroidery and&nbsp;tons of&nbsp;sequins.&nbsp;

The Zara Atelier is no doubt&nbsp;the trend-focused brand&rsquo;s answer to&nbsp;high-end fashion. But a closer look at the coats, photographed by industry veteran Paolo&nbsp;Reversi, shows that&nbsp;luxury is more in the looks of the collection than the actual construction.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Of the six, only one coat is made with 75 per cent wool while the rest range from 5 to 55 per cent&nbsp;wool.&nbsp;The pieces are primarily made with&nbsp;polyester, viscose, polyamide and acrylic.

But these luxury brands are far from the only crypto fashion sellers. Published in the&nbsp;scientific journal&nbsp;<a href="https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1748-9326/abfac3/pdf">Environmental Research Letters</a>, the Finnish research compared&nbsp;five different ways of owning and discarding clothes, including rentals, resale and recycling.&nbsp;The team found that renting clothes had the highest adverse environmental impact of all, thanks to hidden costs like&nbsp;multiple deliveries between the warehouse and renter, packaging material costs and repeated&nbsp;rounds of dry cleaning.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Renting has recently gained a lot of popularity as the frugal and sustainable alternative to permanent ownership, thanks to the&nbsp;advent of companies like Rent the Runway,&nbsp;ThredUp&nbsp;and India&rsquo;s Stage3.&nbsp;Even celebrities have adopted and promoted the practice.&nbsp;However, research suggests&nbsp;that the growing&nbsp;fashion rental&nbsp;sector, valued at US $1.86 million in 2021,&nbsp;needs to be regulated much better before we can look at it as a game-changer.
