Tamil cinema star Dhanush expressed his disappointment over the altered AI ending of his Bollywood debut film "Raanjhanaa".
The film, which originally came out in 2013, was directed by Aanand L Rai and also starred Sonam Kapoor in the lead role. It was recently re-released in theatres.
But this time, the ending was altered with the help of an AI, which got mixed reactions from the audience and was also pointed out by the filmmaker.
Now, the lead actor Dhanush shared his take on the same and said it wasn't the film he committed to 12 years ago.
The 42-year-old actor shared a post on his X handle on Sunday, calling the new version of the film disturbing, adding it has "stripped the soul" of the movie.
"The re-release of 'Raanjhanaa' with an Al-altered climax has completely disturbed me. This alternate ending has stripped the film of its very soul, and the concerned parties went ahead with it despite my clear objection. This is not the film I committed to 12 years ago," he wrote in the post.

The actor said such practices threaten the "integrity of storytelling".
"The use of Al to alter films or content is a deeply concerning precedent for both art and artists. It threatens the integrity of storytelling and the legacy of cinema. sincerely hope that stricter regulations are put in place to prevent such practices in the future," he added.
Set in Varanasi and Delhi, the story of the film follows Kundan (Dhanush), a Hindu boy who falls in love with Zoya (Kapoor), a Muslim girl, from childhood. Towards the end of the film, Kundan is shot at a rally and dies later at a hospital. In the altered version, the actor doesn't die at the end of the film.
Rai has previously slammed production and distribution company Eros for the latest version. The filmmaker said the film didn&rsquo;t need a new climax and had already achieved cult status with its original version.
Following, Eros responded to the maker claiming they have always been at the forefront of leveraging emerging technologies and he objective of the alternative ending was to enhance viewer engagement and present a fresh perspective. Complementing the original storyline and has been clearly labelled as an alternate version.
The script of "Raanjhanaa" was penned by Himanshu Sharma. The film also featured Abhay Deol, Swara Bhasker, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub in pivotal roles.

The Madras High Court has dismissed Netflix India's plea to reject Dhanush's lawsuit, which accuses Netflix of using unauthorized behind-the-scenes footage from his film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale.

The Madras High Court has dismissed Netflix India's application to reject a lawsuit filed by actor-producer Dhanush's production company, Wunderbar Films, regarding alleged copyright infringement related to the documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale.
Justice Abdul Quddhose ruled against Netflix India&rsquo;s plea and set the hearing for Wunderbar Films' interim injunction application on February 5, 2025.
Dhanush, who produced the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, claimed that behind-the-scenes footage from the movie was used in Nayanthara's documentary, produced by Netflix, without proper authorization.
Although Netflix India's office is based in Mumbai, outside the jurisdiction of the Madras High Court, Dhanush had obtained leave to sue the company in the High Court.
Netflix India argued that the plaintiff only sought permission to sue the fifth defendant (Netflix India &ndash; Los Gatos) and not the other defendants, as required by the Copyright Act and Letters Patent Act. The platform also pointed out that a photo featuring Nayanthara and Vignesh Sivan from the movie set was shared on social media in 2020, but Dhanush had not objected until after the documentary's release in 2024.
Netflix further argued that the lawsuit was filed a week after the documentary&rsquo;s release, showing no urgency and failing to justify bypassing the mandatory pre-suit mediation process under Section 12A of the Commercial Courts Act.
However, Senior Advocate PS Raman, representing Dhanush, countered that all materials related to the movie set, including costumes and behind-the-scenes footage, were the intellectual property of the producer. He argued that copyright infringement occurred when this unauthorized footage was used in the documentary.
Raman noted that after the documentary&rsquo;s trailer was released, an email was sent to the defendants asking them to desist from using the footage. However, it was only after the documentary's release that the full extent of the footage usage became clear, prompting the lawsuit.
He also highlighted that Nayanthara had signed a contract stating that her appearance in the film, including costumes and hairstyles, was the copyright of the producer. Therefore, any use of such material without permission was considered a copyright breach.
The court dismissed Netflix India's plea, allowing the case to proceed. The next hearing is set for February 5, 2025, where the court will consider Wunderbar Films' request for an interim injunction.
Earlier, Nayanthara shared an open letter on Instagram criticizing Dhanush for demanding Rs 10 crore in compensation for the use of a few seconds of footage, calling it an all-time low.

Madras High Court has dismissed criminal proceedings against actor Dhanush and Aishwarya Rajinikanth for allegedly showing banners of the Tamil film &lsquo;Velaiyilla Pattadhari&rsquo; carrying a picture of the lead actor prominently smoking a cigarette.
A private complaint was filed against Dhanush, Aishwarya, and a few others under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply, and Distribution) Act of 2003.
The judge stated that the smoking scenes found on the posters of the 2014 movie would not attract offence under Section 5 of COTPA, which prohibits only producers, suppliers, and distributors of tobacco products from advertising them.
The judge said, &lsquo;A penal statute has to be strictly construed since the consequence of an action taken under the statute will touch upon the life or personal liberty guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution.&rsquo;
The judge added: &lsquo;Courts cannot be swayed by emotions. If the facts do not constitute an offence, the court cannot try to expand the scope of the provision by considering the adverse impact that a tobacco or tobacco product can have on society and particularly the younger generation.&rsquo;
&lsquo;The producers and the distributors in the present case were engaged in movie business and were not engaged in the business of cigarettes or other tobacco products. This vital distinction between what has been stated in the provision and what comes out of the allegations made in the complaint makes all the difference,&rsquo; the judge further said.
&rsquo;In the light of the above discussions, the continuation of the criminal proceedings as against the accused persons will amount to an abuse of process of court, and hence, it requires interference of this court,&rsquo; the judge added and quashed the proceedings.

 The film was announced with a video in which Dhanush speaks as his character from the &lsquo;Raanjhanaa&rsquo;, Shankar. The clip shows Dhanush running in dark alleys with a Molotov cocktail in his hand. At the end of his monologue, he says, &lsquo;Pichli baar toh Kundan tha, maan gaya. Par iss baar Shankar ko kaise rokoge? (Last time it was Kundan, he agreed. But how will you stop Shankar this time?)&rsquo;
 &lsquo;Tere Ishk Mein&rsquo;s music has been composed by AR Rahman. The film has been written by Himanshu Sharma and Neeraj Yadav. Himanshu is also the producer of the film. The remaining cast members of the film are yet to be announced.

&nbsp;In an interview with Hindustan Times, &lsquo;Raanjhanaa&rsquo; actor Abhay Deol said, &lsquo;In the process of glamorising it, the film lost the essence of his message.

&nbsp;&lsquo;Raanjhanaa&rsquo;, starring Sonam Kapoor, Dhanush, and Abhay Deol, recently turned 10. The film, directed by Aanand L Rai, has often been criticised for glamourising stalking.
 Now, Abhay Deol has opened up about the same and said that while the film &lsquo;was true to the subject&rsquo;, in the &lsquo;process of glamorising it&rsquo;, the movie lost the essence of its core message.
 Speaking with Hindustan Times, Abhay said, &lsquo;The film portrayed things that do happen and was true to the subject. The filmmaker&rsquo;s motive was also to have empathy and show the evolution of a character. But there is no doubt that there is this formula that Hindi films go for which is to add glamorisation.&rsquo;
 He added, &lsquo;In the process of glamorising it, the film lost the essence of his message, which was about love and respect and boundaries. That was the intention with which the filmmaker came in.&rsquo;
 &lsquo;It was quite the opposite of what may have come out purely because we have to glamorise everything in order to make it commercially digestible, but there are some things which cannot be made palatable,&rsquo; Abhay said.

After realizing that her pricey jewels were missing, she made a police report last month. 60 sovereigns of gold jewellery, valued at Rs. 3.60 lakh, were reportedly stolen. The theft is being looked into by the Teynampet police.
Aishwaryaa claimed in her complaint that the last time she wore the jewelry was to her sister Soundarya's wedding in 2019. The jewellery was then stored in a locker that was moved three times in 2021. Apparently, her housekeepers were informed of this as well.
Aishwaryaa stated that the keys to her locker remained in her residence in St Mary's Road, Chennai, even when it was moved to her estranged husband Dhanush's CIT Nagar home and then to her house in Poes Garden.
When Aishwaryaa opened the locker and noticed her jewellery was missing, she immediately filed an FIR. She claimed that ever since her marriage to superstar Dhanush, she had been gathering the pieces. According to India Today, items worth nearly 60 sovereigns in gold, including bangles, Navaratnam sets, diamond sets, and antique gold pieces were taken from Rajinikanth's daughter's locker.

There are talks of Dhanush and Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth’s reconciliation months after they announced that they wanted to part ways. The speculations about their coming together seem to be true although Dhanush’s father Kasturi Raja has denied to know anything about it. In an interview with Ananda Vikatan, Raja told that he never interfered with his children’s personal life. When he was asked about reconciliation between Dhanush and Aishwaryaa, his answer was, ‘I don’t know.’
He didn’t confirm the truth about the matter. He said, ‘My wife and I can live a good life even without the support of our children. The only expectation we have is for them to be happy. Nothing else. And anything that hampers their happiness is also a problem for us. We are happy when they are happy.’
Dhanush and Aishwaryaa had shared had issued a statement online in January this year, telling they had decided to get separated after 18 years of marriage.

Dhanush's first look from his upcoming Hollywood film, 'The Gray Man' is out. Netflix India has shared the look on their social media handle. In the picture, Dhanush is seen sporting an intense look with blood on his face.
The film is touted to be an action thriller will also stars Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Rege-Jean Page, Jessica Henwick, Billy Bob Thornton and Wagner Moura.
As soon as the look was out, fans couldn't contain their excitement and took to Twitter to praise the actor. One fan commented, “Proud moment for whole Indian Cinema Industry.” Another one said, “Our hero is back.” In an interview with PTI, Dhanush revealed that he loved working on 'The Gray Man' and described collaborating with the Russo brothers "a very good learning experience".
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo of Avengers: Endgame fame, 'The Gray Man' is based on Mark Greaney's 2009 novel of the same name. The story revolves around the story of two CIA officials.
For the unversed, the film marks Dhanush's second International project. He made his debut in 2018 with the adventure comedy 'The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir'.
