We are not alone in this, animals have privileges too! A study published in Behavioural Ecology found that privilege is not just a human thing, but also exists in the animal world.
A recent review published about the study showed that concepts of materialism, social circles and individual capabilities are also found in animal societies. Dr. Jennifer Smith, behavioural ecologist and author of this study said that just like humans pass on material possessions like jewellery, home, land etc. to the next generation, animals do the same.
In North America, female red squirrels pass on nuts and spruce cones to their daughters as inherited resources which increases their chances of surviving winters and reproduce earlier. Meanwhile, spotted hyenas inherit social rank from their mothers and chimpanzees inherit stone tools from their parents and also the ability to use them.&nbsp;
It was concluded in the research that the intergenerational transfer of wealth affects animals too.&nbsp;

As temperatures soar in several parts of China, safari parks and aquariums have come up with some ‘cool’ solutions to help the captive animals beat the scorching heat.

China is grappling with extreme heat since the onset of summer last month. Northern China is witnessing a heatwave pushing temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius.

As temperatures soar in several parts of China, safari parks and aquariums have come up with some &lsquo;cool&rsquo; solutions to help the captive animals beat the scorching heat.
As part of what they call &lsquo;standard cooling measures&rsquo;, Hangzhou Safari Park in Zhejiang Province has installed air-conditioners, set up swimming pools, and water sprinkling devices for animals that have a hard time adapting to the summer heat.
While big animals such as tigers, bears, and elephants take a dip in the pools, smaller ones enjoy the water sprinklers.
Similarly, a polar aquarium in Hefei City in Anhui Province is offering cooling foods such as watermelon, jellies, and ice cubes among other things to its aquatic inhabitants.

Representative Ami Bera said he had to fend the animal off with an umbrella. He is now receiving a course of rabies shots. He said, "Yeah, it's about five o'clock in the early evening last night and I felt something lunge at me from behind. Thought it was probably a small dog or something, but really pivoted and jumped. I had my umbrella in hand thinking that I would have to shoo a dog away. Then like, that's not a dog. That's a fox. It all was probably like 15 seconds, right. A new high-speed algorithm compares tested and untested chemical fragment compounds in order to predict an untested chemical's toxicity.
Published in the Journal of Environmental Health Perspectives, the details suggests that out of the 85,000 compounds used currently in consumer products, the majority have not been comprehensively tested for safety.
The researchers developed a first-of-its-kind algorithm that automatically extracts data from PubChem, a National Institutes of Health database of information on millions of chemicals.
