But how did India achieve this? The surge in 5G handset usage in India can be attributed to strong shipments from brands such as Xiaomi, vivo, Samsung and others in the budget segment. This has reshaped global 5G handset usage, with China holding a 32% share,and India's share of the pie growing to 13%. Meanwhile, the US has slipped to third place, with a 10% share. Globally, Apple leads in 5G handset shipments with over 25 per cent of the market, predominantly driven by the iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 series. Samsung follows with over 21 per cent market share, thanks to its Galaxy A and S24 series. In the first half of 2024, Apple and Samsung each claimed five positions in the top ten list of 5G models, with Apple occupying the top four spots.

However, according to a recent report by 9to5 Google, these phones are only compatible with the first 3GPP 5G standard, Release 15, which was introduced in 2018, and not with the latest standards, including Release 16 by Qualcomm, which was released in 2021.
The Pixel 7 series uses Samsung's Exynos 5300 modem, which currently only supports Release 15. However, Samsung has stated that it can support Release 16, and the Pixel 7 series may receive an update to this standard later this year. Release 16 is better than Release 15 in terms of coverage, capacity, latency, power, mobility, and reliability.

The iQOO 11 is a new 5G flagship phone with notable features such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, Samsung's 144Hz E6 LTPO AMOLED display, and Vivo's V2 imaging chip.

This new iQOO 11 5G&nbsp; comes with a long list of notable firsts including the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, Samsung's 144Hz E6 LTPO AMOLED display, and UFS 4.0 memory.&nbsp;
DESIGN &amp; UTILITY
The iQoo 11 continues the brand's signature white finish and BMW's iconic racing stripes. However, the use of silicon leather for the back panel is a welcome addition. Not only does it look visually appealing but the leather-finish also improves the grip of the phone. Meanwhile, these stripes, which are now made of fiberglass, add a little more durability to the design.
The back panel also has an oversized camera island with metal housing and large rings around the camera lenses, which looks quite nice.. I was pleasantly surprised to find that despite its size, the island doesn't protrude too much. This means that when I use the phone on a flat surface, it doesn't feel wobbly or unstable.

The back side features a curved design at the edges, which gives the impression of a slimmer profile . Around the front is a brilliant 6.78-inch display, which seems to have slightly thick bezels around it, and the panel itself is flat, which may appeal to gamers because it doesn't have any curved edges that can sometimes cause accidental touches. The screen also gets Gorilla Glass Victus protection, making it fairly scratch resistant.
The rest of the phone is held together by an aluminum frame and has an IR blaster and microphone on the top, as well as a SIM card tray and USB Type-C port on the bottom. The power button and volume rocker, which provide a nice tactile feel, are located on the right side of the phone.&nbsp;
One thing to note is that the iQOO 11 only gets an IP52 dust and water resistance rating. Moreover, the phone has no wireless charging or expandable storage, and the maximum onboard storage available is 256GB, so you may have to get used to the idea of cloud storage for backing up very large files.&nbsp;
DISPLAY &amp; AUDIO
The iQoo 11 flaunts a stunning display that is perfect for gaming and watching videos. It features a high-quality 2K E6 AMOLED panel with HDR10+ and an impressive 1800 nits peak brightness, so there's no problem using it under direct sunlight.
On top of all of that, the screen also boasts a refresh rate of up to 144Hz, ensuring smooth and fluid animations. There's dynamic refresh here as well, thanks to LTPO tech, and this allows the device to adapt to the content being displayed on the screen. The speakers on the iQOO 11 are also noteworthy, delivering powerful bass and clear sound.
Additionally, the iQOO 11 also has an x-axis vibration engine that provides good haptic feedback and while the in-screen fingerprint sensor is not as large as the one on the iQOO 9 Pro, it is fast and reliable.
PERFORMANCE &amp; BATTERY
The iQOO 11 is the first smartphone in India to feature the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. It boasts significant improvements over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, including a 35% increase in CPU performance, and &nbsp;a 25% bump in GPU performance.
The chipset also now gets support for faster technologies like LPDDR5X and UFS 4.0. Aside from the latest Snapdragon processor, the phone also gets a new V2 chip, developed by the parent company, vivo, which enhances the quality of night-time photos and videos, as well as providing a boost to gaming performance.
There's a lot of amazing tech packed in here that helps in transforming the iQOO 11 into an extremely powerful smartphone. It consistently ranks at the top of benchmark charts and is definitely one of the most impressive devices I have tested. From lightning-fast app switching to seamless web browsing and photo editing, it truly shines in every task I've thrown its way.
Of course, it's also a great choice for gaming, with its top of the line hardware able to handle even the most demanding games without breaking a sweat.
In the battery department, the iQOO 11 definitely stands out, thanks to its large 5000mAh battery. With moderate daily use, you can expect to have about 50% battery life remaining at the end of the day. And when it does need a quick top up, the included 120W charger will have it fully charged in just 28 minutes. With a 15-minute charge, you can get an impressive 78 percent charge.
SOFTWARE
iQOO 11 ships with the latest Android 13 operating system, and is covered by Vivo's FunTouch skin. lt includes handy features like a customizable home screen with granular controls of UI color schemes and the ability to pin apps to prevent others from accessing them. Overall, FunTouch OS 13 is functional but not as highly regarded as other skins.
Another issue with Funtouch is its abundance of pre-installed apps, some of which cannot be removed or disabled. This results in a cluttered interface and a less streamlined user experience.&nbsp;
On the plus side, iQOO's software always nails the gaming features. For example, Game Space provides a convenient way to access your installed games and track your gaming statistics such as total playtime and most played games.
You can also access the ultra game mode a special in-game menu by swiping from the left side of the screen. This lets you switch between different power modes to give you the best gaming performance. There are also options like reject Background calls and Block notifications that help you stay undisturbed while gaming.
As for software updates, The iQOO 11 is set to receive three major OS updates and three years of security patches. While that isn't bad by any means , it is worth noting that Samsung offers up to four years of OS updates and five years of security patches.&nbsp;
CAMERAS
This phone has a triple camera setup that includes a 50MP Samsung GN5 main sensor, but this time around it lacks the super steady gimbal found in the iQOO 9 Pro, and instead has a more standard optical image stabilization system. The primary camera is joined by a 13MP 2X telephoto zoom lens, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 16MP front facing camera.
Photos taken with the 50MP camera in daylight have good dynamic range and color saturation, and generally offer a lot of sharpness and detail. The telephoto camera is also able to produce clear, high-quality photos with good noise control when using the 2X zoom. However, it would have been better to have a Periscope zoom lens that offers at least 5x optical zoom, as well as more consistent color matching between the main and 2X lenses.
The portrait mode offers reliable edge detection and the extended focal length allows it to produce attractive and natural background blur.
Ultra wide photos have decent sharpness and dynamic range, but again the colors differ from those of the main camera and the overall quality is just average. On the other hand, low light performance with the main camera is excellent, most likely thanks to that V2 chip working its magic behind the scenes.&nbsp;
Selfies taken with the 16 megapixel front-facing camera come out with good detail and sharpness, but the portrait mode can struggle with edge detection at times.&nbsp;
In the video department, IQOO 11's rear camera lets you record at up to 8K at 30 fps, 4K at 60 fps, and 1080p at 60 fps. Footage comes out looking really crisp, particularly at 4K 60 fps, and digital stabilization helps ensure smooth pans. Night time shooting isn't nearly as good as what iQOO advertises but the main still retains good detail and color saturation.
VERDICT
The iQOO 11 is a fantastic all-around smartphone that excels in performance thanks to its powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. Additionally, the pricing of the base variant at 59,999 Rupees appears to be quite competitive. It will be interesting to see how it compares to its rivals in 2023, but overall it is a very solid offering from iQOO.

According to Raju Pullan, Senior Vice President, Mobile Business, the company aims to capture 75% of sales from its 5G device portfolio this year by launching affordable 5G smartphones and increasing distribution.
For this, Samsung will focus on increased distribution of its recently launched Galaxy A14 5G and Galaxy A23 5G series which are priced between Rs 15,000 and Rs 25,0000.
The company will also offer affordable EMI options to ensure that consumers can buy 5G smartphones at the same EMI as a 4G phone.
Samsung's smartphone business grew over 20% last year and the company expects strong double-digit growth this year as well to consolidate its market share said Pullan
According to a report by Counterpoint Research, better availability of networks in major areas and the introduction of affordable 5G smartphones will facilitate 5G smartphone growth in 2023.

Apple is said to start testing 5G network compatibility on iPhone models in India via its iOS 16.2 beta version as early as next week.
The action follows the government's public urging smartphone manufacturers to provide 5G software updates that would enable support for 5G network services in the nation.
Apple has previously announced that the firmware for its 5G-capable phones in India would be updated by December. The software update would include the iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 12, and iPhone SE (2022), which do not support 5G networks in India at now.
The beta version of iOS 16.2 has purportedly been confirmed as a forerunner to the December rollout of 5G functionality. However, the Cupertino, California-based company has not yet confirmed a precise timeframe for the nationwide rollout of 5G services.
According to a report by The Indian Express, beginning the next week, iPhone customers on the Airtel and Jio networks will be eligible to participate in the Beta Software Program, allowing them to test the pre-release iOS 16.2 software and enjoy the latest 5G feature capabilities.
Meanwhile, Apple executives are reportedly scheduled to meet with the Department of Telecommunications and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to discuss the beta release of iOS 16 firmware with 5G carrier capability.
Apple will enable both Airtel 5G Plus and Jio True 5G with the upcoming iOS 16.2 public beta, which is slated to roll out to all iPhone customers the following month.

Bharti Airtel on Thursday said its 5G services have gone live in eight cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur and Varanasi.
The customer availing 5G services will have to pay as per their existing 4G plan, it said.
"Airtel has been at the forefront of India’s telecom revolution for the last 27 years. Today marks one more step in our journey as we build out the finest network to deliver the best experience for our customers.
"For us, our customers are at the core of everything we do. Our solution will therefore work on any 5G handset and the existing SIM that customers have," Bharti Airtel Managing Director and CEO Gopal Vittal said in a statement.
Bharti Enterprises Founder and Chairman Sunil Mittal had announced launch of 5G service in 8 cities on October 1.
A company spokesperson said that customer will be able to avail the services as per their 4G plan.
Airtel subscribers getting 5G signals in their area can switch to 5G but if they find that 5G is consuming high data than can switch back to 4G network.
"Access to 5G is optional," the spokesperson said.
At present, 5G models of Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, Realme and OnePlus are compatible with Airtel 5G Plus service.
The compatible models include Samsung's flagship devices including Fold series, Galaxy S 22 series, Samsung M32, iPhone 12 series and later models, Realme 8s 5G, Realme X7 series, Realme narzo series, Vivo X50 onwards smartphones, Vivo IQOO series, Oppo Reno5G Pro and other device in same series launched later, OnePlus 8 and beyond smartphones etc.
Mobile subscribers will get up to 600 megabit per second speed in 5G network during the launch phase and handsets are expected to work at par with professional computers for accessing apps and data processing, according to industry players.
Bharti Airtel competitor Reliance Jio is providing unlimited 5G data during the beta trial to select customers having a 5G smartphone.

Bharti Airtel on Thursday said its 5G services have gone live in eight cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur and Varanasi.

Airtel subscribers getting 5G signals in their area can switch to 5G but if they find that 5G is consuming high data than can switch back to 4G network.

Bharti Airtel on Thursday said its 5G services have gone live in eight cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur and Varanasi.
The customer availing 5G services will have to pay as per their existing 4G plan, it said.

Bharti Enterprises Founder and Chairman Sunil Mittal had announced launch of 5G service in 8 cities on October 1.
A company spokesperson said that customer will be able to avail the services as per their 4G plan.

On the other hand, another Twitter user <a href="https://twitter.com/GaneshTweets12/status/1577864204694228992/photo/2" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">shared</a> the results of his Jio 5G speed test, which showed a download speed of 1,085 Mbps and an upload speed of 138 Mbps.
But keep in mind that the 5G network isn't quite stable yet, so data speeds will vary by large margins.

The three major telecom operators of India - Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea demonstrated various use cases of 5G technology in front of PM Modi.
5G can enable solutions such as &nbsp;connected vehicles, more-immersive augmented reality and metaverse experiences, life-saving use cases, and advanced mobile cloud gaming.
It can also power ultra-low latency connections that allow downloading full-length high-quality video or movie to a mobile device in a matter of seconds even in crowded areas.

Bharti Airtel's 5G service will be available from Saturday in eight cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi and Bangalore, its chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal said at India Mobile Congress.
With this, Bharti Airtel has become the first company to launch 5G services in the country.
"When you (Prime Minister) will launch 5G today. 5G from Airtel will be available in 8 cities - Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Bangalore and other cities," Mittal said.
He also said that Airtel will roll out 5G services in several cities across the country by March 2023 and across India by March 2024.
According to the telecom department, 5G technology is expected to deliver ten times better download speed than that of 4G and up to three times greater spectrum efficiency.
Mittal lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's understanding of technology and connecting it with the nation's progress.
"We are proud and very fortunate that we have amongst us a leader who understands technology meticulously. Many leaders appreciate technology but its granular understanding and linking it for the progress of the country, according to me what Modi Ji can do no one else will be able to do," he said.
He also acknowledged the contribution of Reliance Industries Limited chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani to the growth of 4G.
"I would like to remind Mukesh (Ambani) when he gave a lot of pace to 4G and we had run very fast to catch up with it. When COVID hit, the pulse of this nation did not stop even for a minute. Our work continued round the clock and its credit goes to Digital Mission," Mittal said.
He said that the Prime Minister gave the slogan of startups, which led to the creation of unicorns every month.
"I believe that with 5G hundreds of used cases will create thousands of entrepreneurs and dozens of new unicorns," he said.
According to a senior company official, Airtel 5G services will be available at existing 4G rates and a new tariff for 5G will be announced after some time.
The officer said the 5G services are also being launched in Chennai, Hyderabad, Nagpur and Siliguri.
Bharti Airtel Chief Technology Officer Randeep Singh Sekhon said that the company's backend infrastructure is ready.
"We need to install some equipment on mobile towers for 5G service. We are doing it gradually. As of today, the service will be available in the area close to towers where the equipment has been installed," Sekhon added.
He said every day Airtel is adding new cities for 5G services and increasing penetration within cities.
"People need to have 5G phones to access the service, which is being launched today. They will not need to replace their existing 4G sim," Sekhon said.
Bharti Airtel had placed the order for 5G gears with Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung immediately after the auctions were over.
The Sunil Mittal-led firm recently acquired 19,867.8 MHZ spectrum in 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz bands, bolstering its spectrum holding.
Bharti Airtel acquired spectrum worth Rs 43,084 crore in the just-concluded auction.
