Xiaomi 12S series confirmed to feature Leica-branded cameras

Instead of Huawei, Leica is working with Xiaomi on the 12S series this time around.

Xiaomi has confirmed that its 12S series of flagship phones will launch on July 4 with Leica-branded cameras.

The series will not only include Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro, but also the 12S Ultra, the successor to Mi 11 Ultra from last year.

The camera setup of the Ultra model is said to feature a 50 MP main camera, a 48 MP ultra-wide camera and a 48MP periscope telephoto camera.

The three 12S models are expected to be powered by either a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC or a Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 SoC. It is likely that the Snapdragon chip might be limited just to the Ultra model.

Also, the top-end storage versions of all three phones will come with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

Previously, Leica has produced some pretty successful camera phones with Huawei like the Mate 20 Pro and P30 Pro. However, the collaboration was dissolved following the collapse of Huawei’s smartphone business, and now, we’ll see Xiaomi phone cameras being co-engineered with Leica.
