WhatsApp streamlines event planning with new features

With its latest features, WhatsApp aims to strengthen its position as a central platform for communication and collaboration, particularly within communities and groups.

WhatsApp streamlines event planning with new features

Staying organised within group chats just got easier with the introduction of a new event planning feature on WhatsApp.

This update aims to simplify the process of coordinating gatherings, both virtual and in-person, directly within the app, eliminating the need for separate event management tools.

Better event creation and RSVPs

Anyone within a group can now create an event, providing details like title, location, date, and time. Participants can easily respond with their attendance status (going or not going), ensuring everyone is on the same page.

Event details will be prominently displayed on the group's information page, providing a central hub for all participants to access relevant information.

Additionally, those who RSVP as "going" will receive timely notifications as the event approaches, ensuring they don't miss out.

Beyond event planning, WhatsApp is also introducing the ability to reply to announcements from admins within Communities.

These replies will be grouped together and minimised, allowing participants to see the full context of the discussion without overwhelming the chat with individual responses.

Notifications for these replies are also muted by default, preventing them from becoming disruptive.

Rollout

The event planning feature is currently being rolled out to groups belonging to WhatsApp Communities, with a wider release planned for all groups in the coming months.

This initial focus on Communities highlights WhatsApp's commitment to enhancing communication and organisation within these structured group settings.
