Sony concept video shows futuristic PlayStation controller with AR Integration & floating screen

Sony has just shared a concept of the vision they have for cinematic entertainment, and it features a highly futuristic-looking PlayStation controller, complete with floating screens and AR integration! Here's all we know.

Sony concept video shows futuristic PlayStation controller with AR Integration & floating screen

Sony has released a new video showcasing its vision for a future PlayStation controller. The concept, presented as part of Sony’s "Creative Entertainment Vision" initiative, imagines what gaming could look like in 2034.

Sony Shares a New PlayStation Controller Concept

Sony recently shared a video on May 23rd for “Creative Entertainment Vision”. In the video, Sony introduces a PlayStation controller concept that appears highly advanced and innovative. The Sony PlayStation controller is shown connected to a floating and curved screen, although it is unclear whether the display is a projection or a physical screen.

PlayStation Controller Concept Design Features

The futuristic gaming controller displayed in the video features a sleek design with subtle lighting. Unlike current models, the controller has an area in the center that seems either invisible, transparent, or hollow. The traditional D-pad and PlayStation buttons are replaced by circular touchpads that glow.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the PlayStation controller concept is its potential for AR integration. The video depicts a screen above the controller showing gameplay footage, but it is not specified if this is a floating display or a projected image. This suggests Sony’s interest in blending physical and virtual realities seamlessly

Sony's video includes the following description:

"Ten years from now, we will be living in a more multi-layered world where physical and virtual realities overlap without boundaries. If Sony, as a creative entertainment company, would be filling the world with new Kando in that future, what kind of experiential value would we be offering to make that happen? To explore this question, we conducted a prototyping exercise under the concept of ‘Creative Entertainment Vision.’ Envisioning through the lens of Sony’s creativity and technology, here we present the future as an extension of our lives today."

Cloud-Gaming-Based Handheld Console

The video also hints at the possibility of a cloud-gaming-based handheld console. The idea is that a lightweight controller could project a screen, making gaming more portable and accessible.

Sony’s latest video offers an exciting glimpse into the potential future of gaming technology. While the PlayStation controller concept shown is not a prototype, it reflects Sony’s ambition to push the boundaries of gaming experiences.

Regardless, Sony is thus continuing to explore new ways to enhance the gaming experience, blending physical and virtual realities through advanced technologies. The futuristic gaming controller concept, with its AR integration and potential floating screen, is a testament to it.
