Samsung Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra: First look

Samsung has released three new phones in their S23 lineup - the S23, the S23+, and the S23 Ultra, here is what you need to know.

Samsung Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra: First look

amsung made a few incremental improvements to its flagship phones in 2022, with the exception of the Galaxy S22 Ultra which essentially saw the return of the Galaxy Note.

This year, we have the new Galaxy S23 series, and these devices have a lot to live up to. Here's our first look at Samsung's latest flagships.

Samsung has released three new phones in their S23 lineup - the S23, the S23+, and the S23 Ultra.

The S23 Ultra is the most powerful model, boasting a new 200MP camera sensor that allows users to zoom or crop photos without compromising on quality.

On top of that, Samsung promises that the 200MP sensor delivers 16X higher resolution images and 1.5X faster auto focus. As for both the standard Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+, they will feature a 50 MP triple camera system with dual-pixel autofocus.

The other big news is that all three phones use a custom version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. This will be the first time Qualcomm has exclusively provided a faster version of its chipset to an Android smartphone maker. According to Samsung, this version of the SoC offers a whopping 34 percent improvement in CPU performance and a 41 percent increase in GPU performance.

Naturally, the increased speed of the processor is likely to generate greater heat, and it is uncertain to what extent this could affect the S23's sustained performance.

Moving on to battery specifications, you can expect to find a slightly bigger battery in both the regular and the Plus variants. The Galaxy S23 has a 3,900mAh battery and the S23+ model has an even larger 4,700mAh battery, while the S23 Ultra is the biggest of the trio, with a 5,000mAh battery.

The design of the Samsung S23 series hasn't seen much change from last year. However, the most significant alteration has been to the camera layout. The S23 and S23 Plus have replaced the Contour Cut block in the top left corner with individual lenses protruding directly from the phone, similar to the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

There are still rounded edges on the regular and Plus models though, and the S23 Ultra is the only one with a built-in S Pen for those who need to take quick notes or express their creativity through doodles. Unfortunately, Samsung did not include S Pen support for the S23 or S23+. Atleast, the phones come in some new colour options and this green shade on the Ultra is especially nice.

If you're thinking of buying one of these phones, you should do your homework first before taking the plunge. Know that they won't come cheap! We'll be taking a close look at the S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra in the coming days, so make sure you subscribe to the editorji channel – you won't want to miss it!
