Oppo has launched their latest wearable, the Oppo Air Glass AR smart glass, at the Oppo INNO Day 2021 event. The Oppo Air Glass is a monocle that is meant to snap on to specially-designed glasses frames, and uses a micro projector to overlay useful information in front of a user’s eyes.

Oppo Air Glass features

The Oppo Air Glass comes in both black and white colours. The monocle’s frame houses the components, like the Snapdragon Wear 4100 chipset that powers the Oppo Air Glass. The AR glass has a Spark Micro Projector which uses micro-LED technology to overlay information in front of the glass lens.

At just 0.5cc, the projector is around the size of a coffee bean. However, the micro-LED technology helps the projector to reach a peak brightness of 1400 nits, making it visible even in bright daylight. Oppo has manufactured a custom-made optical diffraction waveguide for the display, which can work in 16-bit or 256-bit grayscale modes - meaning it only supports a single colour.

Users can control the Oppo Air Glass using touch, voice, or head movements. The Oppo Air Glass can track nods or shakes of the head to control the UI. Users who own an Oppo Watch 2 can pair their Oppo Air Glass and control it through hand movements as well.

Oppo has shown off a wide variety of functions for the Oppo Air Glass, like Weather, Calendar, Health, Navigation, or Teleprompter. There is also a translation function built-in, which also does two-way translation if both speakers are wearing an Oppo Air Glass. Mandarin Chinese to English, and vice versa, will be available out of the box.

Oppo Air Glass can pair with the Oppo Watch 2 smartwatch, or any Oppo smartphone which is running ColorOS 11 or above.

Oppo Air Glass availability

No price for the Oppo Air Glass has yet been announced. The Oppo Air Glass will be available in China in Q1 of 2022, but no plans for availability outside of China have yet been announced. There is no official word on if this wearable will come to India.
