Xiaomi announces HyperOS, a lighter and more efficient MIUI successor

Xiaomi's new Xiaomi HyperOS, launched alongside the Xiaomi 14 series, boasts a reduced size and improved features. It's set to roll out in December 2023, targeting high-end models first, then branching to other devices, including those under the Redmi brand.

Xiaomi announces HyperOS, a lighter and more efficient MIUI successor

Xiaomi recently introduced its new operating system, Xiaomi HyperOS, alongside the launch of the Xiaomi 14 series.

Xiaomi HyperOS is the latest operating system from Xiaomi, and it is touted to be the smallest firmware size in the industry, measuring around 8.75GB. This is significantly smaller than MIUI 14, which is about 13.09GB in size.

This revamped architecture makes the new Xiaomi OS more efficient and allows it to work better across different devices, irrespective of the onboard RAM.

What Makes HyperOS Special?

HyperOS is built on a mix of Linux and Xiaomi Vela, Xiaomi's very own software for smart devices. What's exciting about HyperOS is its ability to work efficiently on various gadgets, no matter their memory size. This efficiency is all thanks to its revamped design.

HyperOS Features

Better Performance: One of the benefits of HyperOS is that it makes apps start quicker and stay open in the background for a longer time. It also improves the speed of the disk and makes animations look smoother.

Smarter AI: The new OS can create text with AI through something called Xiaoai Input Assistant. It also has cool tricks like grabbing text from photos, turning simple drawings into detailed artwork, and making it easier to find pictures with everyday words.

Connecting Devices Smartly: HyperOS helps connect different Xiaomi devices through something called Xiaomi HyperConnect. This feature lets the phone's camera work as a webcam, shares internet access easily, and shows phone notifications on bigger screens.

Keeping Data Safe: Even though Xiaomi is letting more developers use HyperConnect and joining the open-source community with Xiaomi Vela, it's putting a lot of effort into making sure data stays safe through better encryption and security practices.

Fresh Look and Feel: HyperOS users will notice new ways to make their lock screen look different, along with some changes to the main control settings and built-in apps.

Supported Devices

The following is the official list of devices eligible for the HyperOS domestic version:

  • Xiaomi phones: Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro
  • Redmi phones: Redmi K60 Ultra
  • Other Xiaomi and Redmi devices: Xiaomi Watch S3, Xiaomi Pad 6 Max 14, Xiaomi TV S Pro 65, Xiaomi TV S Pro 75, Xiaomi TV S Pro 85 (MiniLED TVs), Xiaomi Sound speaker, and Xiaomi Smart Camera 3 Pro
