Will iPhone 14 come with USB-C port? Tipster reveals

A new report speculates on the connectivity options of Apple's upcoming iPhone 14 series.

A new report from iDropNews speculates on the specifications of the upcoming iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro smartphones. Apple’s highly-awaited iPhone 14 series is already rumoured to do away with the infamous notch in favour of a pill-shaped Face ID cutout, but now new details have emerged over the ports used in the iPhone 14.

A certain section of Apple fans have been calling for the manufacturer to switch to USB-C ports in iPhones. The port is widely used in all Android phones, and Apple has already adopted it in their iPads and MacBook laptops.

However, those fans may be disappointed come the launch of the iPhone 14 series this year, as the report reveals that the iPhone 14 series will continue to use the lightning connector Apple has used for years for the iPhone. However, the iPhone 14’s lightning connector will get an update to USB 3.0 speeds, and will support data transfers at up to 5Gbps.

The tipster also speculates that Apple’s reason for not switching from the lightning connector on iPhones is the revenue it generates from licensing it to third-party accessory manufacturers.
