Qualcomm recently announced the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, a new Qualcomm chipset designed to power flagship-tier Android smartphones. This latest iteration offers refinements over its predecessors, promising better performance and a significant focus on on-device AI processor capabilities.

As an upgrade to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, it will likely feature in more affordable devices than those using the top-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 Availability

Qualcomm confirmed we'll see the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 in upcoming devices from popular brands like Honor, iQoo, Redmi, Realme, and Xiaomi. The first phone featuring this chipset could arrive as early as this month, though specific details about the device remain unknown.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 Specifications

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 boasts a 4nm process and an octa-core configuration. It includes a powerful Prime core clocked at 3.0GHz, four performance cores, and three efficiency cores.

The Adreno GPU promises impressive gaming experiences with HDR support and real-time hardware-accelerated ray tracing. Additionally, the chipset supports up to 24GB of LPDDR5x memory and UFS 4.0 storage.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 on-device AI Features

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 emphasizes its on-device AI processor, capable of running generative AI models with up to 10 billion parameters.

This translates to features like AI-powered content generation, photo expansion, and advanced language processing. Qualcomm states that the chip supports popular models like Gemini Nano, Llama 2, and Baichuan-7B.

The chipset supports displays up to 4K at 60Hz and Quad-HD+ at 144Hz, as well as an always-sensing camera for convenient facial unlocking. Lastly, the included FastConnect 7800 system offers Wi-Fi 7 connectivity and extensive Bluetooth audio support.
