Qualcomm announces Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 for high-res VR devices

The Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 Chip revolutionizes VR with higher resolution, faster refresh rate, and better AI tracking. Designed for 4K VR, it's more powerful than its predecessor and set to enhance products like Meta Quest 3, Samsung VR, and Google VR.

Qualcomm announces Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 for high-res VR devices

The Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 Chip is a big step forward in VR technology. Qualcomm, Samsung, and Google worked together on this project. This new chip, replacing the XR2 Gen 2 used in the Meta Quest 3, aims to improve VR experiences and might compete with the Apple Vision Pro headset.

Upgraded Visuals with 4K VR

The Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 supports a high 4.3K resolution per eye, better than the XR2 Gen 2’s 3K resolution. This means users can enjoy a clearer and more immersive 4K VR experience. The chip also has a 90fps VR Refresh Rate, making VR scenes smoother and more realistic.

Better Tracking and AI in VR

The XR2+ Gen 2 Chip is also better at tracking. It can handle up to 12 cameras, which helps VR Headsets track movements and surroundings more accurately. This is thanks to its On-Device VR AI, which makes moving around and interacting in VR more natural.

More Power for Complex VR

The XR2+ Gen 2 Chip is more powerful than its predecessor. Its GPU frequency is 15% higher, and its CPU frequency is 20% higher. This means it can run more complex VR apps smoothly, allowing for more detailed and interactive VR experiences.

Collaborations and Future Plans

Qualcomm is working with Goertek to make VR headsets better. They have two designs: one with XR2 Gen 2 for 3K resolution and another with XR2+ Gen 2 for full 4K VR. Qualcomm is also working with companies like HTC to make this technology more popular.

Samsung VR and Google VR are planning to use this new chip in their products. This could lead to more competition in the VR market, especially with Apple's Vision Pro headset. The tech world is excited to see what will be announced at Samsung's Unpacked event, which might include new VR developments.

Wrap up

the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 Chip is an important development in VR technology. It offers better visuals, improved tracking, and more power for VR applications. Its use in upcoming products from Samsung, Google, and others is expected to bring new and exciting VR experiences.
