Oppo Reno 16 Series To Feature AI Snap Key, IP69K Protection, and Stunning New Design

Oppo has started teasing key features of its upcoming Reno 16 series ahead of its India launch, expected on July 2. The new lineup is set to bring a refreshed design language, a dedicated AI shortcut button, and improved durability, as the company looks to further differentiate the Reno series in the increasingly crowded premium mid-range smartphone segment.

Among the biggest highlights are what Oppo calls India's first HoloVerse 3D design and the debut of the AI Snap Key on a Reno smartphone. The company is also placing significant emphasis on durability, with the Reno 16 series set to arrive with some of the highest ingress protection ratings currently available on a smartphone.

Oppo Reno 16 Series Design

Design has always been one of the Reno series' defining characteristics, and Oppo appears to be doubling down on that philosophy with the Reno 16 lineup. Inspired by planets and celestial imagery, the company has introduced a new 3D Pop Planet design that creates the illusion of a floating planet beneath the rear panel.

The effect is achieved using a dual-layer optical structure featuring a graphic layer and millions of microscopic lenses that manipulate light to create a naked-eye 3D effect. According to Oppo, the visual appearance changes depending on viewing angles and lighting conditions, giving the phone a more dynamic look.

The new design will be available exclusively on the Starry White variant, while the Reno 16 series will also come in Twilight Violet and Stellar Purple colour options. Oppo has further enhanced the aesthetic with a floating glitter finish and a redesigned camera ring that it calls the Dynamic Stellar Ring.

Beyond the rear panel, Oppo is also focusing on ergonomics. The Reno 16 features a 6.32-inch AMOLED display with ultra-thin bezels and a 120Hz refresh rate, while the Reno 16c gets a larger 6.57-inch AMOLED panel. Despite housing large displays and camera systems, the Reno 16 measures just 8.22mm thick and weighs 182g.

Oppo Reno 16 Series AI Snap Key

The Reno 16 series will also mark the debut of the AI Snap Key, a dedicated side-mounted button designed to provide quick access to AI-powered features and shortcuts.

A single press can save on-screen content directly to Oppo's Mind Space feature, while a long press records a voice note and a double press launches Mind Space instantly. Users can also customise the button to trigger frequently used functions such as the camera, flashlight, translator or voice recorder.

Oppo says the feature works alongside AI Mind Pilot and integrates services such as Gemini, Perplexity and ChatGPT. The idea is to create a central hub where users can save information, organise content, compare AI-generated responses and quickly retrieve previously stored material.

Oppo Reno 16 Series Durability

Alongside its focus on design and AI, Oppo is positioning the Reno 16 series as one of the most durable devices in its category. The smartphones will feature IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K certifications, offering protection against dust, water immersion and high-pressure water jets.

The Reno 16 series also uses an aerospace-grade aluminium frame, which Oppo claims delivers significantly higher strength and better drop resistance compared to conventional plastic frames. Additional usability features include Splash Touch and Glove Touch support, allowing the display to remain responsive even when hands are wet or when gloves are being worn.

With the Reno 16 series, Oppo appears to be taking a three-pronged approach: eye-catching design, practical AI tools and improved durability. More details, including pricing and availability, are expected when the smartphones officially launch in India on July 2.
