iPhone 15 Pro Max: Shipments face potential delays because of new camera sensor

Apple's highly anticipated iPhone 15 series is set to be announced in three weeks, with shipments starting four weeks later.

However, there are concerns that the highest-end model, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, could face delays into October due to image sensor readiness.

A recent report suggests a potential delay in iPhone 15 shipments, adding to earlier rumours of display production issues. Let's delve deeper into the details.

Delay in iPhone 15 Pro Max shipments

According to a major equity analyst note cited by a source, camera parts supplier Sony will be unable to provide the image sensor required for the iPhone 15 Pro Max on time.

This means that the Pro Max model may not be able to ship alongside the other new iPhone models. Deliveries for the iPhone 15 Pro Max could potentially begin between October 6 and October 13, reflecting a three to four week delay.

iPhone 15 Pro Max camera upgrades

Apple is expected to offer significant camera upgrades with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, featuring a periscope lens system that will enable greater optical zoom capability compared to the current 3x limit.

However, it's important to note that the smaller iPhone 15 Pro will not receive this camera upgrade. Both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will include ultra-wide and wide cameras, excluding the telephoto cameras.

Previous shipping delays

Apple has a history of shipping certain iPhone models a few weeks later than others. In the past, we saw the iPhone XR shipping after the iPhone XS, and the iPhone 14 Plus following the iPhone 14.

A similar situation occurred with the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max, which shipped weeks after the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.

Design updates and changes

The iPhone 15 line is expected to introduce several design updates. One significant change is the replacement of the Lightning charging port with USB-C, resembling the new iPads.

Additionally, both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will adopt the Dynamic Island design introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Moreover, the Pro models will feature a switch from stainless steel to titanium and replace the standard mute switch with a programmable button similar to the Action button found on the Apple Watch Ultra.
