Honor took the stage at IFA 2023 to showcase its innovative foldable devices under the theme "Unfold Tomorrow." Among the devices unveiled was the much-anticipated Honor Magic V2 and a unique concept device, the Honor V Purse, which drew attention for its resemblance to a handbag.
Honor V Purse Features
The Honor V Purse stands out with its outward folding design, similar to Huawei's 2019 Mate X, featuring a large outer display that creates a smooth surface when folded. This innovative device takes the foldable phone concept a step further by transforming the device into a fashion statement.
The always-on display can be customized to mimic the appearance of a handbag, complete with moving chains, feathers, and tassels. Additionally, the straps of the device can be changed, allowing it to be worn like a traditional purse or handbag.
Unfolding the device is facilitated by a small button, and despite its functionalities, the Honor V Purse is notably thin, measuring less than 9 mm when folded, making it 20% slimmer than Huawei's Mate Xs and 10.1% thinner than the Magic V2.
The device also embodies sustainable foldable phone principles, as it is designed with vegan leather straps and promotes a durable fashion style, helping environmentally conscious consumers reduce fast fashion consumption.
However, Honor has not released detailed hardware specifications for the V Purse as it is a concept device and not intended for mass production. The availability of this innovative phone-to-purse concept device to the public remains uncertain, as past concept devices have taken considerable time to materialize.
Honor V Purse Design Efforts
In an effort to blend fashion with technology, Honor has collaborated with creative talents such as BURBERRY's Bram Van Diepen and contemporary artist Yunuene Esparza to design custom Always-On Displays (AODs) for their devices.
This initiative will extend to emerging designers worldwide by opening Honor's API interface, allowing them to create innovative designs using sensors like gyroscope and touch, thereby shaping future lifestyle trends.

Global Unveiling of Honor Magic V2
The flagship foldable phone, Honor Magic V2, was also revealed at IFA 2023, showcasing significant improvements in design, battery life, display quality, and user experience. Despite its advanced features, the device is remarkably light, weighing 231g, and impressively thin at 9.9mm, thanks to careful design and manufacturing processes.
However, Honor has not yet disclosed the global release date or pricing for the Magic V2.
New Colour for Honor 90
In other news, Honor announced a new Peacock Blue color option for the Honor 90 to celebrate its receipt of the Best Buy Smartphone 2023-2024 award from the Expert Imaging and Sound Association (EISA). Initially launched in European markets, including the UK, in July, the Honor 90 is set for its India launch in September.
Honor 90 Specifications (Expected)
Although the Honor 90 variant to be released in India may differ slightly from the global version, it is expected to feature a 6.7-inch FHD+ OLED curved display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut, up to 1,600 nits peak brightness, and 3840Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.
The device is likely to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Accelerated Edition (4nm) Mobile Platform with an Adreno 644 GPU. It is anticipated to offer 8GB/12GB RAM and 256GB/512GB storage options and run on Android 13 based MagicOS 7.1.
The Honor 90 specifications also include a 200MP main camera with an f/1.9 aperture, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. A 50MP front camera is also expected to be included.
Other expected Honor 90 features include 5G SA/NSA, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ax (2.4GHz/5GHz), Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, a USB Type-C port, and NFC. The device is expected to have a 5000mAh battery capacity.
