Apple Watch saves another life, detects serious heart condition in Delhi-based woman

Known for its ability to detect potential health risks, the Apple Watch has once again proven its value.

A recent case involving Sneha Sinha, a policy researcher, highlights this. She experienced a potentially life-threatening situation due to Atrial Fibrillation (AFib), a rapid and irregular heart rhythm.

Early warning signs ignored

On April 9, Sneha experienced an abnormally rapid heart rate. Initially believing it to be a stress-induced panic attack, she attempted to manage the situation through breathing exercises.

However, the condition persisted, prompting her to utilize her Apple Watch 7 to monitor her vitals.

The Apple Watch immediately detected the alarming heart rate and advised Sneha to seek medical attention.

While she initially disregarded the warning, the severity of the situation escalated later that evening.

Urgent medical intervention

As her heart rate crossed 230 beats per minute, a critical level, the Apple Watch issued a second, more urgent alert prompting immediate medical assistance.

Recognising the gravity of the situation, Sneha rushed to the nearest emergency center.

Upon arrival, doctors struggled to detect her pulse and were forced to administer three rounds of direct current shock (up to 100 joules) to restore her heart rhythm.

Following successful stabilisation, Sneha was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit for further monitoring and prevention of potential relapse.

This incident underscores the potential of smartwatches equipped with advanced health monitoring technology.

In Sneha's case, the Apple Watch served as a crucial tool in detecting a life-threatening condition, prompting timely medical intervention and ultimately saving her life.
