Apple's early designs for iPhone 16 leaked: New camera island likely

According to information acquired by MacRumors, the iPhone 16 might feature a redesigned camera island.

The early design leaks provide a glimpse into the key updates and modifications that Apple is considering for its upcoming device.

Camera and Flash Design

One of the most significant modifications involves the camera layout. The iPhone 16 is expected to feature a vertical camera arrangement, a departure from its predecessor.

Internal prototypes have showcased two distinct camera bump designs: an iPhone 12-style layout with two lenses stacked vertically, and an iPhone X-type design with a single pill-shaped enclosure.

The flash's position is anticipated to remain unchanged, regardless of the chosen camera layout.

Button Configurations

Apple's exploration of button configurations has been thorough. The iPhone 16 is set to adopt a capacitive Action Button, potentially replacing the traditional mute switch across the entire range.

It is also anticipated to sport a new Capture Button, featuring both force sensor and "tact-switching" functionality.

However, the existence of alternate hardware configurations without a Capture Button indicates that the final decision on this feature's inclusion is still pending.

Chassis and Colour Options

The iPhone 16 is expected to continue the design trend initiated by the iPhone 15, featuring a curved frame and a frosted glass back.

Early prototypes have been spotted in three colours: yellow, pink, and midnight, with documentation suggesting the use of additional colour options initially developed for the iPhone 15.

While the chassis won't see substantial changes, the introduction of new colours adds to the visual diversity of the upcoming smartphone.
