Apple launches revamped iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, alongside new iPhone 14 and 14 Plus

Apple has launched the highly awaited iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max phones, which get a complete design revamp that does away with the notch first seen in the iPhone X. There’s a new pill-shaped notch that Apple calls the ‘Dynamic Island’, which can expand dynamically through the software to show notifications, or display background tasks.

The new iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max also come with new 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch sized displays, with thinner bezels and a peak brightness of 2000 nits. There’s also a new Always-On Display feature, a first for the iPhone. They continue to come with fast refresh rate, which apple calls ProMotion.

The Pro models debut with the new A16 Bionic chipset, which Apple claims is faster and more efficient than previous models. The 4nm chipset has 2 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores.

The phones’ camera system gets a big upgrade with a 48MP primary camera sensor with a larger pixel size, which will greatly improve low-light photography. Through pixel binning, the camera can produce true 2x zoom at 48mm focal length. There’s also a new ultra-wide camera with improvements to low light and macro photography. The telephoto camera also gets low-light improvements.

The iPhone 14 Pro is priced starting at ₹1,29,900, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max is priced starting ₹1,39,900. Storage options go up to 1TB. Both models can be pre-ordered starting September 9, and will be available from September 16.

Apple iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus

Apple has also launched the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus models. The iPhone 14 has a design very similar to the iPhone 14, while the new large-sized iPhone 14 Plus replaces the missing mini model in this year’s lineup. The iPhone 14 sticks with the 6.1-inch screen, while the iPhone 14 Plus gets a larger 6.7-display.

Crucially, both models do not debut with a new chipset, but stick with the A15 Bionic that was found on the iPhone 13 series.

Both phones get a dual rear camera setup with a new 12MP main camera, that has a larger sensor and a faster aperture. There is also an ultrawide camera, and a new 12MP TrueDepth camera for the front, which has autofocus capabilities.

The iPhone 14 will also support emergency messaging via communication satellites when a user it out of signal range. It is not clear when this feature will come to India.

In India, the iPhone 14 starts at ₹79,900, while the iPhone 14 Plus starts at ₹89,900. Both models can be pre-ordered starting September 9, and while the iPhone 14 will be available from September 16, the iPhone 14 Plus will only be available starting October 7.
