Apple iPhone 13 to be made in India: all you need to know

According to a report in The Economic Times, Apple’s iPhone 13 will now be made in India. The company has begun trial production of the iPhone 13 at its Foxconn plant near Chennai, which also manufactures the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12. The report says that Apple plans to begin manufacturing the iPhone 13 in India, both for domestic sales and exports, by February next year.

Apple has reportedly secured a supply of semiconductor chips, which has allowed it to expand iPhone 13 manufacturing to India. According to the report, around 20 to 30 percent of iPhones made in India are exported, which should help Apple bolster its inventory overseas amid the global chip shortage.

Currently, there are no plans to manufacture the iPhone 13 Pro or iPhone 13 Pro Max in India. Apple already manufactures the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 at the Foxconn plant near Chennai, while the iPhone SE is manufactured at the Wistron plant in Bengaluru. Apple reportedly domestically manufactures 70 percent of iPhone units sold in India.

iPhone 13 specs

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini feature 6.1-inch and 5.4-inch screen sizes respectively, and both get a new Apple custom-OLED Super Retina XDR display with a 20% smaller notch. They run on the A15 Bionic chip, built on the 5nm process, and come with a minimum 128GB of storage. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini get dual 12MP rear cameras, including a wide lens and an ultrawide lens, with sensor shift technology.

iPhone 13 price in India

There is currently no indication that Apple will offer price cuts on the iPhone 13 series, despite the phone now being manufactured in India. The iPhone 13 mini starts at ₹69,900 in India, while the iPhone 13 starts at ₹79,900, both for the 128GB storage version.
