Apple iOS 17.3 update introduces Stolen Device Protection: Check how to enable on your iPhone

Apple has recently rolled out a new security feature for iPhone, known as Stolen Device Protection. It is available with the new iOS 17.3 update.

This feature aims to provide users with increased security measures when someone attempts to access or modify sensitive settings on their device.

The Stolen Device Protection feature is designed to limit specific settings when the iPhone is not in a familiar location, requiring the use of Face ID or Touch ID to make changes.

Additionally, the feature incorporates a one-hour delay for any attempts to alter sensitive information, adding an extra layer of security to the device.

How to Enable Stolen Device Protection on iPhone

  1. Ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest operating system, iOS 17.3.
  2. Navigate to the Settings menu
  3. Select Face ID & Passcode.
  4. Entering your iPhone's passcode.
  5. Enable Stolen Device Protection feature by tapping on the "Turn on Protection" option.

Enhanced Security Measures

Once the Stolen Device Protection feature is activated, users will be required to authenticate their identity using Face ID or Touch ID to perform certain actions on their device when located in an unfamiliar environment.

These actions include the use of saved passwords or payment methods, disabling Lost Mode, erasing content, applying for an Apple Card, and more.

Notably, a unique security delay mechanism is implemented, mandating a facial or fingerprint scan when attempting to change the Apple ID password, update account security settings, add or remove Face ID or Touch ID, modify the passcode, reset settings, deactivate Find My, or disable the Stolen Device Protection feature.

It is advisable for users to set up their home location before enabling the Stolen Device Protection feature.

This allows for seamless operation when at home or in the workplace, preventing any unnecessary delays in modifying device settings.

Users can add their home and work locations through the Maps app, ensuring that they are readily available when configuring the feature.
