Google recently clarified issues related to Android 14 storage problems seen in some Pixel phones. The company provided information about which devices are affected, how they are tackling the problem, and potential solutions for data recovery.

      Which Devices Are Impacted?

The storage issue mainly affects the Google Pixel 6 and later models. The problem appears in devices that have updated to Android 14 and have multiple users, including guests, restricted profiles, and child users. However, it doesn't impact devices with several Google Accounts signed in under the primary profile.

Proactive Measures: Google Play System Update

To address this concern, Google released a Google Play system update. Users can apply this update by going to Settings > Security & privacy > System & update > Google Play system update. The current version is dated October 1, 2023.

For users facing issues with accessing their media storage, Google is developing an update. This new patch will fix the problem, letting users access their media files without resorting to a factory reset.

In situations where the Pixel is starting a boot loop, which means the device keeps restarting, Google is exploring data recovery options. The outcome isn't certain, but Google assures users that more details will be shared once available.

      Guidance for Users

For those who have reset their devices or are considering it, Google advises caution. They recommend not setting up or logging into a secondary user account on the device until a new update is available.

      Wrap Up:

Google acknowledges the Android 14 storage issue affecting multiple users on the Google Pixel 6 and later models. They have provided an interim Google Play system update and are working on more permanent solutions. Users are urged to be patient and await further updates.
