Instagram begins testing subscription features in India

Instagram has begun testing paid subscriptions for a select few content creators in US, which allows them to charge their followers a monthly fee in exchange for exclusive content, including live videos and stories.

While the option to charge for paid subscriptions is currently only available to content creators in the US, the feature has been spotted in testing for Indian users, with pricing tiers in local currency.

Some Instagram users in India are seeing the option to subscribe to select creators with different pricing tiers - including ₹89, ₹440, and ₹890 per month. In the US, pricing for paid subscriptions can go from $0.99 per month (around ₹74) to $99.99 per month (around ₹7,400).

The perks of a subscription include a subscriber badge next to your username when you direct message or comment on a creator’s posts, the option to view their subscriber-only story, and view subscriber-only lives.

Currently, there is no way for creators in India to set up subscriptions and start charging for exclusive content. An Instagram spokesperson confirmed to Gadgets 360 that the feature is currently only available in the US, but may roll out in other markets soon.
