How to use Instagram Broadcast Channels: check out all the new features

In a recent announcement, Meta is set to make the broadcast channels feature on Instagram accessible to users worldwide. Initially rolled out in February for content creators to distribute images and videos directly to their follower base, the feature is now expanding its reach to include all users.

Utilising broadcast channels, creators can establish a public platform for one-to-many messaging, enabling them to engage all their followers by sharing updates in the form of text, images, and videos.

Additionally, creators can share voice notes and conduct polls to gather feedback from their audience. However, the feature ensures that only creators have the ability to send content via the channels, limiting followers to content reactions and participation in polls.

How to use Instagram Broadcast Channels on Instagram

Broadcast channels on Instagram, once available to creators, will prompt their followers with a one-time notification inviting them to join the channel after the first message is sent.

This message can be dispatched directly from the creator's Instagram inbox. While all users can discover these channels and view the content shared within, only those who join will receive update notifications.

Followers retain control over their participation in any broadcast channel they join, with options to leave, mute, or manage notifications from the creators. By navigating to the creator's profile, tapping the bell icon, and selecting "broadcast channel," users can adjust their notification settings. By default, notifications are set to "some," but this can be modified to "all" or "none".

Notifications for new content from a channel will only be received if the user has explicitly opted in. Once a channel is added to a user's inbox, it will appear among other message threads with activated notifications and will operate similar to other chats, except that most users will not be able to reply.

Links to a creator's broadcast channel can be accessed through a sticker on their Story, pinned to their Instagram, or via the one-time notification sent to existing followers. After clicking on any of these, simply tap "Join broadcast channel."

In addition to the global expansion of the broadcast channel feature, Instagram has introduced a "Collaborator" feature. This allows creators to invite other creators or fans to participate in their broadcast channels, akin to hosting a special guest on a podcast. This feature is now available worldwide.
