Google Search gets generative AI in India and SynthID to combat deepfakes; Know how to use them

Google has incorporated generative AI into its Search function.

By leveraging deep-learning models, Google's generative AI is now able to identify patterns and structures within existing data to produce new and original content.

Expanded Capabilities: Contextual Content and Local Languages

Google has taken a notable leap forward by introducing generative AI to its Search tool for users in India and Japan.

This novel feature will present search results in local languages, allowing users to access text and visual content that is tailored to their preferences and needs.

Enhanced Search Results: A Comprehensive Understanding at Your Fingertips

According to a blog post by Google, the integration of generative AI into Search aims to help users comprehend topics more quickly, gain fresh perspectives and insights, and accomplish tasks more easily.

On the search results page, short videos and images, based on a conversational pattern, will be displayed. These visual aids will provide users with a holistic understanding of the topic at hand, encapsulating various aspects and offering a complete picture.

Language Flexibility and Voice Interaction

Google Search has also introduced language-switching functionality, enabling users to effortlessly toggle between English and Hindi results by simply tapping a button.

Furthermore, the text-to-speech feature, highlighted by a Listen button, will audibly read out the search results.

Notably, Google plans to add a microphone icon for conversational mode, allowing users to ask follow-up questions via voice rather than typing.

Diverse Voices and Continued Advertisements

Google emphasises that it will leverage a wide range of voices to present search results, ensuring a diverse and inclusive experience for users.

Additionally, dedicated ad slots will continue to appear throughout the search page, guaranteeing the persistence of Search ads.

Expanded Access and User Choice

Previously available exclusively in the United States, Google's generative AI feature will now be accessible to users in India and Japan.

Furthermore, Google emphasises that users will have the option to opt in to receive this enhanced search experience.

Google's Latest Tool Embeds Watermarks in AI-Created Images

In a separate development, Google has unveiled a novel tool, developed by its DeepMind subsidiary, designed to identify deepfakes and AI-generated images.

The beta version of the tool, dubbed 'SynthID', is engineered to recognize AI-generated images and embed a digital watermark directly into the image pixels, rendering it invisible to the human eye yet detectable for identification purposes.

This innovation facilitates the identification of AI-integrated images via the embedded digital watermark, thereby aiding in the recognition of deepfakes, which are becoming increasingly challenging to discern as AI tools advance.

Although some AI images inadvertently reveal their artificial nature, others are sophisticated enough to deceive observers. Google's SynthID aims to address this issue by making it easier to identify artificial images and deepfakes.
