Google is reportedly developing an AI tool that can generate news articles. The tool, known internally as "Genesis," has been demonstrated to media executives from The New York Times, The Washington Post, and News Corp.

According to The New York Times, two executives who saw the demonstration said that Genesis "seemed to take for granted the effort that went into producing accurate and artful news stories."

However, another executive saw Genesis as more of a personal assistant that could help journalists with tasks such as writing headlines or finding sources.

Google has not yet released any details about Genesis, but the company has said that it is not intended to replace journalists. Instead, the tool is designed to help journalists be more productive and creative.

The reaction to Genesis has been mixed. Some journalists have expressed concerns about the potential for the tool to be used to create inaccurate or misleading news articles.

Others have said that Genesis could be a valuable tool for journalists, as long as it is used responsibly.

It is still too early to say how Genesis will be used by journalists. However, the tool's development is a sign of the growing role of AI in the news industry.

In addition to the concerns about accuracy, there are also concerns about Google's track record with new products.

Google has a history of launching products with great fanfare, only to abandon them a few years later. This has led some journalists to question whether Google is serious about Genesis.

The media industry as a whole also has a number of issues with Google. The media has accused Google of favouring its own products in search results, and of using its adtech monopoly to hurt local news.

These concerns could make it difficult for Google to win over the trust of journalists.
