Oppo Reno 13 Pro Review: Ultimate Camera Phone Under ₹50,000?

The Oppo Reno 13 Pro gets a 50MP telephoto lens with 3.5x zoom. Is it enough to make it stand out?

Oppo Reno 13 Pro Review: Ultimate Camera Phone Under ₹50,000?

The Oppo Reno 13 Pro aims to deliver a premium smartphone experience. It starts at ₹49,999 in India.

With its impressive triple rear camera system and Dimensity 8350 SoC, can it deliver?

Design and Build

The Reno 13 Pro boasts a sleek and lightweight design, making it comfortable to hold and use.

Its thin profile and lightweight build are definite advantages. The micro-curved display and symmetrical bezels contribute to a premium aesthetic.

The overall design is understated and inoffensive, though it lacks a distinctive visual identity. The camera island design is rather generic and doesn't particularly stand out.

The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i. The Reno 13 Pro has a superior IP69 rating, providing enhanced dust and water resistance compared to some competitors.

Display

The Reno 13 Pro features a high-quality AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals. The 1.5K resolution provides a sharp and clear viewing experience.

While the display quality is good, the peak brightness of 1200 nits is slightly lower than some competitors, meaning visibility in very bright sunlight may not be optimal. The Reno 13 Pro does not utilize an LTPO panel.

Performance

The Reno 13 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chipset, a significant upgrade from previous Reno models. While it handles everyday tasks and moderate gaming well, it doesn't quite match the flagship-level performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 on the OnePlus 13R.

Demanding games may exhibit some frame drops, but they mostly run fine. Up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM provides sufficient memory for most users. Storage options go up to 512GB, using UFS 3.1 storage, which is slightly slower than the UFS 4.0 standard.

Software

The Reno 13 Pro runs ColorOS 15, based on Android 15. ColorOS includes a number of pre-installed applications and "hot apps" and "hot games" folders, which some users may find undesirable.

While the software generally functions smoothly, the pre-installed bloatware detracts from the overall user experience.

Cameras

The Reno 13 Pro's camera system is a key strength. It features a triple rear camera setup: a 50MP main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP telephoto lens. Image quality is generally very good, with natural colour reproduction and a slightly warm tone.

The telephoto lens is particularly impressive, capturing detailed zoom photos. The phone offers a high level of digital zoom, up to 120x. Video recording supports 4K resolution at 60fps, maintaining good colour accuracy.

The 50MP front-facing camera captures excellent selfies with sharp details. Selfie video recording also supports 4K at 60fps, a notable feature.

Battery Life

The Reno 13 Pro houses a 5,800mAh battery, providing solid battery life. You can expect around 8.5 hours of screen time with mixed use. It supports 80W fast charging.

Verdict

The Oppo Reno 13 Pro excels in camera performance, particularly with its telephoto lens and selfie capabilities. Its sleek design and comfortable form factor are also positive attributes.

However, the performance is not quite flagship-level, and the software includes some bloatware.

If camera quality is your primary concern, the Reno 13 Pro is a strong contender. However, if you prioritize overall performance, you might want to consider other options.
