Oppo has launched the F27 Pro+, and it comes with an IP69 rating. No, that’s not a typo, and I didn't mean IP68. This is the first smartphone in India with an IP69 rating!

That’s not all. Oppo, in fact, has gone to great lengths to make this smartphone as rugged as possible while retaining a sleek look.

Starting at ₹27,999 in India, is this a truly distinctive mid-range smartphone? Let’s find out!

Oppo F27 Pro Plus: Design & Utility

The Oppo F27 Pro+ marks a departure from the design language of the F25 Pro. Gone is the quirky camera island, and what you get instead is a more universally appealing circular, centrally-positioned camera island.

This design choice gives the phone a clean and sophisticated look, but to prevent it from looking too generic, a neat centre stripe has been added to the back panel. This gives the phone a touch of personality and makes it visually distinctive.

However, this camera island’s appearance can be somewhat deceptive. While it suggests a multi-lens setup, the system only includes one functional camera. We’ll talk about the camera system in a while.

The rear panel features a blend of vegan leather and a plastic central stripe, contributing to a good in-hand feel. The curved back panel of this phone enhances the sleek aesthetic and provides a comfortable grip. The frame, however, remains constructed from plastic.

The front of the phone has a curved display, and while its bezels aren’t the slimmest, they are acceptable for a mid range device.

Oppo, however, is betting big on this phone’s durability. Despite not looking like a typical rugged phone, the F27 Pro+ is packed with crazy durability certifications.

To begin with, it is India’s first smartphone with an IP69 rating, meaning it can resist high temperatures up to 80 degrees Celsius and high-pressure water jets.

Then, its interior is filled with cushioning materials such as sponges to enhance drop resistance, and the phone has received a 5-star drop resistance rating from Swiss SGS.

Additionally, the front cover of the phone’s motherboard is made from AM03, a high-strength, high-thermal conductivity aluminium alloy commonly used in high-performance computing environments, to protect key components.

To top it all off, the display of this smartphone has Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, which makes it the only smartphone in its price bracket to offer this level of durability.

Oppo F27 Pro Plus: Display

The Oppo F27 Pro+ is equipped with a 6.7-inch curved AMOLED display featuring a 120Hz refresh rate.

The display supports Splash Touch Function, allowing easy use even with wet fingers, which is a handy feature for those who are often on the go.

Colour reproduction and viewing angles are excellent, contributing to an enjoyable multimedia experience.

However, the display’s peak brightness of 950 nits is not class-leading. But, it is sufficient for most conditions, including during bright afternoons.

The display also comes with Widevine L1 and HDR10+ certifications. This ensures compatibility with high-definition streaming services and enhances video playback quality.

Oppo F27 Pro Plus: Performance & Software

Under the hood, the F27 Pro+ is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chipset, the same as its predecessor.

While this chipset handles daily tasks competently, it is one of the weaker options in this segment. Users looking for a device for heavy gaming or demanding applications might find more powerful alternatives at this price point.

The phone runs on ColorOS 14, based on Android 14, which offers a fluid and customisable user experience. With 8GB of RAM standard, multitasking is smooth, and most applications run without issues.

However, the software is marred by the presence of bloatware. Numerous pre-installed games and the notorious Glance lock screen detract from the overall user experience. These can be removed, but their initial presence might be off-putting to some users.

Also, Oppo has been slowly adding a few AI features to ColorOS. I particularly like the AI Eraser in the Photos app, which can smoothly remove small objects from images, like they never existed in the first place.

Oppo F27 Pro Plus: Cameras

The camera system on this smartphone is a bit of a mixed bag. The main 64MP sensor takes decent photos in good lighting, capturing details and offering a respectable dynamic range.

Nighttime photography is just okay, delivering acceptable results without anything particularly impressive. Videos can be recorded at 4K at 30fps on the rear camera. The footage has serviceable quality as well.

There’s a second 2MP depth sensor on the back of this smartphone as well. Whether it adds something meaningful to portrait photography is anyone’s guess. Anyway, the Portrait Mode on this phone works well, with good edge detection and a natural-looking bokeh effect.

However, it has a tendency to over-brighten skin tones and has limitations on working distance – you'll need your subject fairly close for it to activate.

The 8MP front camera manages to capture a good level of detail for selfies and videos.

Oppo F27 Pro Plus: Battery Life

Battery life is a critical factor for any smartphone, and the F27 Pro+ does not disappoint. It features a 5,000mAh battery, unchanged from its predecessor, which provides solid endurance.

Users can expect around 7 hours of screen time with moderate use, making it a reliable companion for daily activities.

Fast charging capabilities remain at 67W, allowing the battery to be topped up in under 50 minutes.

Oppo F27 Pro Plus Review

At ₹27,999, the Oppo F27 Pro+ is an interesting choice for those looking for a durable and stylish smartphone with a few standout features.

It definitely has its shortcomings, specifically a middling chipset for the price. But, power users are definitely not the F27 Pro+’s target audience.

Instead, it will be quite appealing to the adventurous type who wants a smartphone that can withstand rough use.
