EU makes USB-C the charging standard for smartphones

New regulations were approved on Tuesday by the European Parliament that will implement a single charging port for mobile phones, tablets, and cameras in the European Union by 2024.

This will be a first of its kind in the world and is likely to have a greater impact on iPhone maker Apple than its competitors.

With this vote, the EU has officially adopted the USB-C connections used by Android-based smartphones, making it mandatory for Apple to redesign the charging port for the iPhone and other iOS devices.

Complaints from iPhone and Android users about needing to buy new chargers for their devices sparked the shift, which had been considered for years.

Although Apple is predicted to be among the most affected among major providers of electronic products to European customers, experts also anticipate a possible positive influence as it may encourage shoppers to purchase the company's newest gadgets rather than ones without USB-C.

Analysts predict that Samsung, Huawei, and other gadget manufacturers would be affected by the agreement because it includes e-readers, earbuds, and other technology.

There were 602 votes in favour of the proposal and only 13 votes against it among EU legislators.
