Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset: SDK released for app developers

Apple has released a set of tools, called the visionOS SDK, which will enable developers to build applications for the forthcoming Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset.

Unlike other Apple products, the headset will use a combination of three modes of interaction using a person's eyes, hands and voice, meaning that developers can adapt their apps to the device's unique functionality whilst making use of its specialised hardware.

The SDK will also enable developers to utilise a simulator for testing their apps in different lighting and room conditions, and will allow users to port an existing app project for the headset or develop an application from scratch.

In addition, Apple will open labs in multiple global locations, including Cupertino, London, Munich, Singapore, Tokyo and Shanghai, where developers can test their apps on the device.

The company will also make available developer kits so that app creators can build and test their apps more quickly on the mixed reality headset. Apple's first spatial computer will go on sale in the US next year.
