Apple likely to unveil its mixed reality headset soon

Apple is expected to unveil its highly anticipated mixed-reality headset, dubbed “Reality Pro,” ahead of the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) this June.

This device will have both virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) capabilities, allowing users to immerse themselves in a virtual world or view digital data overlaid onto real-world imagery.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the headset could go on sale as early as late second quarter or third quarter of the year. Apple has reportedly shared the device with a small number of developers for testing the hardware and the headset’s operating system. The OS is known as “Borealis” internally but will likely be marketed as “xrOS”.

There have been delays in the device’s release due to mechanical component drop testing and software development tool availability, but it looks like Apple is now aiming for a spring unveil before shipping it several months later.

The company is banking on the product being its big introduction for the year.
