Apple announces March 8 launch event: what to expect and how to watch

Apple has announced their first launch event of 2022 for March 8, with the tagline 'Peek Performance'. That tagline is widely expected to refer to the launch of new Apple M2 chips, that would power a redesigned MacBook Air. Apple is also expected to debut a new iPhone SE, and a new iPad Air at the event.

The event will be streamed live through Apple's website, the Apple TV app, and Apple's YouTube channel at 11:30 PM IST on March 8.

iPhone SE 5G

Apple is expected to launch a new iPhone SE model at the event, adding support for 5G networks through the new Apple A15 Bionic chipset. The phone is also expected to sport an improved 12MP single camera at the back.

Despite rumours that the company is updating the design of the phone, the iPhone SE 5G is expected to keep the same 4.7-inch LCD display as the current iPhone SE model. The new phone may come with 3GB of RAM.

iPad Air

Along with the new iPhone, Apple is also expected to launch an update to the iPad Air. The new iPad Air will keep the design of its predecessor, but feature the new A15 Bionic chipset, and an improved front-facing camera with Center Stage support.

Apple M2 chipset with new Mac lineup

Apple is expected to announce the Apple M2 chipset at the launch event, as the successor to the Apple M1. The Apple M2 is expected to be slightly faster than the Apple M1, but feature much better graphical processing capabilities, with a 9 or 10 core GPU.

The Apple M2 is expected to power a new redesigned MacBook Air, which may get rid of the line's iconic tapered design. The new MacBook Air lineup could also come in more colourful options, mirroring the colours of the new iMac Apple launched last year.

Some rumours also say that Apple could launch a new baseline MacBook Pro, and a new Mac Mini, both powered by the Apple M2, at their March 8 launch event.
