Android 14 could block sideloading older versions of apps

Android 14 will not allow sideloading apps on phone

9to5 Google has released a fresh report. According to which, Android 14 will ban apps that target previous Android versions. Apps featured on the Play Store must target Android 12 according to the most recent guidelines. The requirements only apply to apps published on the Play Store, and developers can create apps for previous versions by asking users to manually install the .apk file.

However, the revealed code suggests that Android 14 will tighten API requirements. It would prevent users from side loading an outdated software using an APK file and would prevent app shops from allowing customers to download the same app.

This change in guidelines will give an extra layer of protection to Android 14 phones.
