<p>The Samsung Galaxy A series has always carried a sense of nostalgia for longtime users, especially those who have seen the Galaxy J series morph into the A series.&nbsp;<br>My first ever phone was the iconic Galaxy J7, and truth be told, I enjoyed every moment I spent with it.</p>
<p>Fast forward to today, I&rsquo;ve been testing the new Samsung Galaxy A17 for about a week, and the experience has been a mixed bag to be honest. The Galaxy A17 definitely has some strengths that make a truly solid phone. However, it also has some pretty glaring shortcomings.&nbsp;</p>
<h2><br><strong>Design &amp; display of Samsung Galaxy A17 &ndash; premium-ish but with bummers&nbsp;</strong></h2>
<p>Samsung&rsquo;s design language is super consistent across its A-series and S-series, and honestly, I like that. The A17 looks classy in blue, black, and grey.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I&rsquo;ve got the blue one for testing, and although it is terrific to look at, the blue coloured plastic back is a massive smudge magnet. Even though it&rsquo;s a plastic back with a plastic frame, it doesn&rsquo;t feel cheap.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The flat sides make for a good grip and at 192 grams it&rsquo;s not bulky to carry. You get a mono speaker at the bottom and a no headphone jack. There is dual nano SIM support too.&nbsp;</p>
<p>My only complaint would be the that it&rsquo;s a big phone, which makes it slightly awkward to slip into jeans pockets.</p>
<p>The display is a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. Colours are crisp, natural, and watching any content feels fun. But here&rsquo;s the thing; 90Hz in 2025 is a bit disappointing.&nbsp;</p>
<p>To make matters worse, smartphone brands like Motorola and Realme are already pushing 120Hz in the same price segment, so Samsung feels behind the curve here.&nbsp;</p>
<p>To add to that, the drop notch on the front feels outdated too.&nbsp;</p>
<p>On the positive side though, the IP54 rating and Gorilla Glass Victus protection are solid, so at least you get scratch resistance and splash protection out of the box.</p>

<p>The A17 runs on Exynos 1330 with storage and RAM options that go up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. Benchmarks scores are mid-tier at best, 970 single-core and 2184 multi-core in GeekBench.&nbsp;</p>
<p>But that&rsquo;s okay because, it&rsquo;s not aiming to be a performance beast anyway.&nbsp;</p>
<p>In day-to-day use it&rsquo;s smooth. I faced no heating as such, until I started clicking a ton of photos back-to-back, where the area around the camera bump warms up a bit.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Switching between apps feels chill, but the one weak spot is the camera app, which sometimes lags when processing multiple shots.</p>
<p>On the software side, this is where Samsung really nails it. The A17 runs One UI 7 on Android 15 and you get six OS updates promised, which is insane for an ₹18K phone.&nbsp;</p>
<p>One UI itself is clean and well organised, though sometimes it still looks a little old-school. Honestly, using it gave me a weird throwback to my J7 days. That said, small touches like Samsung Notes syncing and notes import are underrated gems that really make the experience feel good even on a budget device.</p>

<p>Overall, the photos are solid for what you pay for the phone, and are totally Instagram-ready, as long as you keep your expectations in check.</p>

<p>The Tecno Pova Slim 5G isn&rsquo;t just another mid-range smartphone trying to compete on specs alone. At ₹19,999, it carries a unique pitch &mdash; it&rsquo;s the world&rsquo;s slimmest and lightest 5G device at just 5.95mm thin and 156 grams. I&rsquo;ve been living with this phone for the past week, slipping it into my jeans pocket, tossing it into a packed bag, and using it as my daily driver.</p>
<p>The question is simple: does the obsession with thinness actually work in everyday use? Here&rsquo;s my experience.</p>

<p>The first thing you notice about the Pova Slim 5G is just how unbelievably light and thin it feels. <h2><strong>The iPhone 17 Pro Max brings Apple&rsquo;s most meaningful upgrade in years with a new aluminum design, A19 Pro chip, brighter display, triple 48MP cameras, and improved battery life.</strong></h2>

<p>Every year, Apple promises its newest iPhone Pro is the best yet. And most years, the upgrades are more subtle than exciting. The iPhone 17 Pro Max changes that. &nbsp;</p>
<p>I&rsquo;ve spent two weeks with it, and three things stood out right away: design, performance, and battery life. These areas matter to many people, and this year, Apple seems to have finally nailed them.</p>
<h2><strong>iPhone 17 Pro Max Design</strong></h2>
<p>Both the 17 Pro and Pro Max finally bring something fresh. The new two-tone finish gives it a nice visual break but I didn&rsquo;t get the viral <a href="https://hook.online/newsreel/iphone-17-pro-max-cosmic-orange-sold-out-in-india-launch-details-1758097762581">Orange Cosmic</a> version that&rsquo;s been all over the internet. My review unit came in Deep Blue. It&rsquo;s sleek, understated, and far more subtle than the orange.</p>
<p>The titanium frame is gone, replaced by a new aluminum unibody that instantly feels sturdier. Aluminum also runs cooler under heavy use, and in daily use, the phone feels more solid in hand.</p>
<p>The extended camera plateau (as Apple calls it) is hard to miss, but it&rsquo;s also more practical now. It gives your fingers a natural place to rest, and since the lenses sit slightly deeper, the phone rocks less on flat surfaces. There&rsquo;s still a bit of wobble, just not as bad as before.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Some early units showed scratches on the camera module, raising durability concerns. Two weeks in, mine looks fine. There are light scuffs, but nothing out of the ordinary for a metal phone. Still, if you like keeping your phone spotless, a case is a good idea.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Speaking of which, Apple sent over its new iPhone 17 Pro Max Clear Case with <a href="https://www.editorji.com/tech-news/mobiles/iphone-air-asmr-unboxing-first-look-apple-s-boldest-iphone-in-years-1758885499880">MagSafe</a> for me to try, and I&rsquo;ve got mixed feelings about it. It offers solid protection and feels grippy, which I like. It&rsquo;s also cleaner-looking than those old MagSafe &ldquo;ring&rdquo; clear cases that never quite worked for me.</p>
<p>What&rsquo;s odd, though, is the white patch on the back. It blends well with the Silver iPhone, but clashes with the Deep Blue and Orange Cosmic models. I don&rsquo;t get why Apple didn&rsquo;t release versions that complement those colors.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Anyway, at 6.9 inches, this is still a big device. It&rsquo;s slightly heavier than last year&rsquo;s 16 Pro Max and roughly matches the 14 Pro Max in weight. You&rsquo;ll feel the heft if you&rsquo;re coming from a smaller iPhone. That said, the rounded edges and balanced weight distribution make it more comfortable to hold. It&rsquo;s large, but it doesn&rsquo;t feel like a brick anymore.</p>
<h2><strong>iPhone 17 Pro Max Performance: A19 Pro chip and Better Cooling</strong></h2>
<p>The second biggest improvement is performance. This is where the iPhone 17 Pro Max really flexes, especially when juggling multiple apps or heavy tasks.</p>
<p>Part of that comes down to more RAM. Apple doesn&rsquo;t list the number, but reports suggest it&rsquo;s around 12GB, up from 8GB last year. The new <a href="https://www.editorji.com/tech-news/mobiles/apple-iphone-17-series-launch-everything-you-need-to-know-1757452282187">A19 Pro chip</a> also plays a major role. It packs a 6-core CPU, 6-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine.</p>
<p>Benchmarks show a 20 percent boost in multi-core and 12 percent in single-core performance compared to the A18 Pro. On paper, that sounds incremental, but the real improvement is in everyday use.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Over the past two weeks, I tried to push it hard with the kind of stuff that made the 16 Pro Max sweat. I ran a FaceTime call, uploaded photos to iCloud, played a podcast, and scrolled through Instagram all at once. The 16 Pro Max would have heated up quickly, but the 17 Pro Max just cruised through it.</p>
<p>A new vapour chamber inside the 17 Pro Max also helps spread heat more evenly. I played COD Mobile for over two hours, and the phone stayed comfortable to hold. The back can get slightly warm, but I never noticed any slowdown. I also shot a few 4K 60fps clips in the sun, and the screen never dimmed or dropped frames. That&rsquo;s a big deal if you&rsquo;ve ever used an older iPhone that turned into a hand warmer.</p>
<h2><strong>Battery Life: iPhone 17 Pro Max Charges Faster and Lasts Longer</strong></h2>
<p>The third significant upgrade on the iPhone 17 Pro Max is battery life and charging. It now supports Qi 2 wireless charging at 25W and faster wired charging at 40W.&nbsp;</p>
<p>That means you can hit 50 percent in about 20 minutes without the phone heating up or feeling stressed. Battery life is back to Pro Max legend status. On paper, it&rsquo;s a small jump from 4685mAh on the 16 Pro Max to 4832mAh here, but in daily use, it feels like a much bigger leap.&nbsp;</p>
<p>It reminds me of the 13 Pro Max, the last time an iPhone truly felt like a two-day phone. Even with heavy use, I end most days with 25 to 30 percent left and about 10 hours of screen time.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Low Power Mode is smooth, too. It used to cut performance sharply on the 16 Pro Maxy, but on the 17 Pro Max, it just stretches battery life without slowing things down. If the 16 Pro Max had you reaching for the charger before dinner, this one fixes that. Apple&rsquo;s battery king is finally back.</p>
<h2><strong>Camera System: Triple 48MP Setup With a Sharper 18MP Selfie Sensor</strong></h2>
<p>The biggest upgrade in the camera department is the new telephoto lens, joined by a refreshed 18MP Centre Stage selfie camera at the front. The other two cameras on the back remain the same &mdash; a 48MP main and a 48MP ultrawide.So, for the first time, the iPhone 17 Pro Max and 17 Pro are the only Pro models where all three rear cameras shoot at 48 megapixels.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The ultrawide and main cameras are still excellent. I found the focal lengths ideal for everyday use, and the main sensor continues to deliver sharp and detailed shots.</p>
<p>Of course, there are moments when Android phones edge past it. The <a href="https://www.editorji.com/tech-news/gadget-review/vivo-x200-pro-review-cameras-performance-everything-in-between-1734951900393">Vivo X200 Pro</a> takes cleaner portraits, the Galaxy S25 Ultra still owns zoom, and the Pixel 10 series nails skin tones better.</p>
<p>That said, I really enjoyed using the 4x optical zoom camera. On paper, it&rsquo;s technically a downgrade from the 5x on the 16 Pro Max, but it&rsquo;s not the letdown I expected. In fact, the new 8x zoom &mdash; even though it&rsquo;s digital &mdash; is surprisingly useful.</p>
<p>You can argue about Apple calling it &ldquo;optical-quality zoom,&rdquo; but the results speak for themselves. The level of detail at 8x is genuinely impressive, and Apple&rsquo;s stabilization keeps shots steady and blur-free even when you&rsquo;re zoomed in that far. It&rsquo;s easily my favorite part of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and honestly, the one feature that makes the $300 jump over the regular iPhone 17 feel justified.</p>
<p>Video is another area where these cameras really shine. Stabilization is excellent, front and back, and switching between lenses while recording is smooth. Low-light video looks cleaner too, with far less grain. Google&rsquo;s Video Boost tech gets close, but not consistently.</p>
<p>Some of Apple&rsquo;s more advanced video tools are still reserved for the Pro models. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max can record 4K Dolby Vision video at 120 frames per second and ProRes video up to 60fps.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The new Dual Capture feature is also worth noting. You can record with the front and rear cameras at the same time. Third-party apps have offered this before, and Samsung has had it on Galaxy phones for years. The iPhone 17 Pro Max just executes it better, with smoother results and higher-quality output.</p>
<p>Another significant upgrade is the new Centre Stage front camera. It&rsquo;s available across the entire iPhone 17 lineup and features a square sensor for the first time. That small design change makes a huge difference. You no longer need to rotate the phone for portrait or landscape selfies, or stretch your arm to fit everyone into the frame. Honestly, it&rsquo;s the most practical camera feature Apple has added this year.</p>
<p>Centre Stage also works during FaceTime calls, keeping you in the frame as you move. It feels more natural now, especially when you&rsquo;re walking or holding the phone instead of placing it on a surface.</p>
<p>The front camera itself is sharper, too. It uses a 24MP sensor that delivers 18MP selfies, replacing the older 12MP TrueDepth system. The difference in detail and skin tones is instantly noticeable. The camera control button makes a return on all iPhone 17 models and the iPhone Air. Honestly, it hasn&rsquo;t changed much. It still feels a bit clunky to navigate, even after a year.</p>
<p>All in all, though, the 17 Pro Max offers a great camera system. The 48MP rear cameras and the 18MP Centre Stage camera on the front give you plenty of creative flexibility for photos and video. That said, most people probably aren&rsquo;t upgrading from a 16 Pro just for the cameras.</p>

<p>On top of that, Sony has applied what it&rsquo;s learned from its Walkmans to reduce crosstalk and interference, so everything stays clean and detailed.</p>
<p>The XM6 works with Sony&rsquo;s Headphones Connect app, which opens up a bunch of extras. You can fiddle with the EQ, tweak the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/tech-news/gadget-review/sennheiser-momentum-true-wireless-4-review-audiophile-must-have-check-specs-price-pros-and-cons-1715954554409">noise-canceling</a>, or set up Adaptive Sound Control. The app itself is a bit clunky and doesn&rsquo;t feel modern, but you honestly don&rsquo;t need it that often.</p>
<p>One of the fun little features is Background Music mode. Turn it on and it kind of spreads the sound out, so it feels like the music is coming from around you instead of directly in your ears.</p>
<p>I tried it with Tame Impala&rsquo;s Let It Happen and it actually gave the impression the track was playing from small speakers nearby. It&rsquo;s not a game-changer, but it&rsquo;s a neat trick. Definitely worth experimenting with if you grab the XM6 &mdash; you&rsquo;ll know right away if it clicks for you.</p>
<h2>WH-1000XM6 Noise Cancelling and Call Quality</h2>
<p>Sony finally gave the &nbsp;WH-1000XM6 a proper brain upgrade. The new QN3 chip is about seven times quicker than the last one, and it works with a dozen microphones to catch and cancel noise more precisely.&nbsp;</p>
<p>In practice, that means the usual low rumbles, like airplane engines, get knocked down to a faint background hum.</p>
<p>However, what stood out was how well it handled sharper sounds. The clacking of a keyboard, people chatting nearby, and even metro announcements got dialed back far more than I&rsquo;m used to with other headphones.</p>
<p>The transparency mode is just as polished. Instead of that tinny, artificial passthrough you sometimes get, voices and street noise come through naturally. You can fine-tune it across 20 levels or let the headphones adjust on their own, depending on what is around you.</p>
<p>There is also a setting that prioritizes voices so you can catch what someone is saying without letting in the rest of the chaos.</p>
<p>Call quality has also improved. On Zoom, they just worked, no complaints from the other side. I also tried a few calls outside with wind whipping around, and the &nbsp;Sony WH-1000XM6 held up way better than the last couple of models.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Sony has reworked the mic design so your voice cuts through without all the wind noise, and it makes a noticeable difference. The person on the other end hears you more clearly, and you&rsquo;re not distracted by that whooshing sound bleeding into the noise-cancelling or ambient modes.</p>

<p>The WH-1000XM6 sound balanced and detailed, and they handle just about any genre without breaking a sweat. That's pretty much what I&rsquo;d expect from Sony at this level. They've reworked the 30mm driver with a sturdier dome and some smarter tuning, and you can hear the difference right away.</p>
<p>Vocals sound present and natural. Instruments have breathing room instead of blending into mush. Bass is warm but never bloated, and highs have a pleasant shine without turning harsh.</p>
<p>I bounced between Kendrick Lamar&rsquo;s Money Trees, Taylor Swift&rsquo;s All Too Well (10 Minute Version), and a couple of The Weeknd tracks. Each one came across clean and layered. Little things like background harmonies or a faint guitar line come through instead of getting lost in the mix.</p>
<p>Compared to older Sony models, the XM4 still has the deepest bass but sacrifices clarity. The XM5 sharpened things up but sometimes felt a bit thin. The XM6 strikes the right balance: clarity, separation, and enough low-end punch to stay engaging.</p>
<p>If you&rsquo;re coming from Bose, the QC Ultra is still the more neutral and musical choice, but Sony&rsquo;s tuning is more versatile and enjoyable for daily listening. The AirPods Max delivers the sharpest detail and spatial audio magic, but they are heavier and costlier. The XM6 lands in a sweet middle ground, but they're also not flawless.</p>
<p>Play a track that&rsquo;s supposed to feel raw, like Pixies&rsquo; Where Is My Mind, and they tidy it up a little too much. The default tuning leans warm with some added bass, which makes for an easy listen, and you can always dive into the EQ if you want to shape the sound yourself.</p>
<p>Sony also added a few extra modes, including one that fakes a caf&eacute; or living-room vibe and a cinema option for movies. If spatial audio is your thing, these headphones handle both Sony&rsquo;s 360 Reality Audio and Android&rsquo;s head-tracked version without a hitch.</p>

<p>One of the best things about the &nbsp;WH-1000XM6 is how long they last. I didn&rsquo;t have to think about charging once. Sony says you can get up to 30 hours of playback with noise canceling on, and in my testing they easily hit that mark. I wore them throughout the week, including a five-hour flight, and still had plenty of juice left.</p>
<p>If you do run low, topping them up is quick. The fast-charging feature is impressive. You can get roughly three hours of listening from just three minutes on the charger. I tried it out and got about 11 percent in three minutes, which worked out to just over four hours of playback for me.</p>

<p>I&rsquo;m saying the same this year. The WH-1000XM6 blocks tricky high-pitched noises like background chatter better than anything else I&rsquo;ve tried. Outside of that, it&rsquo;s mostly fine-tuning what was already great.</p>
<p>The sound is excellent, they&rsquo;re light and comfy to wear, the touch controls actually work, the battery lasts, and the folding design with a solid case makes them really easy to live with.</p>

<p>For the longest time, every year when Apple launches an iPhone, I am inundated with questions from family and friends, asking if they should get the latest iPhone, and each year, without fail, I have told them to go for the Pro model from the previous year.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Well, Apple changed that script with the iPhone 17.</p>
<p>For the first time in years, the base iPhone, the non-Pro model, truly deserves the flagship title that we associate with iPhones. While Apple finally moving to a 120Hz display plays a major role in this, it's not the only reason why the base iPhone 17 finally feels like a Pro.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The iPhone 17 starts at ₹82,900 for the 256GB variant, with the 512GB model priced at ₹1,02,900. That bump in base storage makes the entry point feel far more reasonable, especially for a phone that is as capable as the iPhone 17</p>
<p>I tested the iPhone 17 for a good 10 days and, having daily driven the iPhone 16 Pro Max for a year, and an iPhone 15 Pro Max the year before that, I can confidently say that for most people looking to buy an iPhone, the iPhone 17 is all they need to consider. Let me explain why.&nbsp;</p>
<h2><strong>The iPhone 17 is familiar but really well built</strong></h2>
<p>At first, the iPhone 17 doesn&rsquo;t scream of a radical redesign like the rest of the iPhone 17 series, but living with it for a bit shows how Apple has fine-tuned the minute details. You still get that familiar glass sandwich design, that pill-shaped vertically stacked camera island, and that space-grade aluminium frame, but they all feel a little different.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The phone itself is solidly built, without being heavy. At 177 grams and with a thickness of 7.8mm, I found the balance to be just right. It&rsquo;s been a while since I&rsquo;ve used a phone that nails the proportions this perfectly, has the right balance of weight and size, and slips in and out of my pocket without me giving it much thought.</p>
<p>Glass is one area where Apple has genuinely pushed things forward. The iPhone 17 debuts Corning&rsquo;s new Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, and Apple claims it&rsquo;s twice as tough as before.&nbsp;</p>
<p>For the back, we get last year&rsquo;s Ceramic Shield, the same stuff that we see protecting the display of the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, and from my experience, they&rsquo;ve proven to be remarkably tough and handle scratches pretty well. I&rsquo;ve carried iPhones with that glass without a screen protector, and while the occasional scratch does show up, it&rsquo;s nowhere near the scuffs and wear I&rsquo;ve seen on other flagship devices.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I also absolutely love the colours this year. Black and White are the safe choices, which are also highly demanded. But the Mist Blue, Sage, and Lavender add that hint of character without going over the top. They aren&rsquo;t as loud as the iPhone 16&rsquo;s Pink, Teal, Ultramarine, but they are still playful and elegant. I am glad to see how Apple has been experimenting with colours this year, especially with the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max.&nbsp;</p>
<h2><strong>The iPhone 17&rsquo;s cameras are pretty solid</strong></h2>
<p>The iPhone 17 keeps things simple on the back with a dual-camera setup, with one 48MP main fusion camera, and the other and a 48MP ultrawide fusion camera. They are stacked vertically inside a neat pill-shaped camera island.&nbsp;</p>
<p>On paper, it may sound like Apple is holding back compared to the Pro models, but after testing it for over a week, I&rsquo;ve been genuinely impressed by what this setup can do.</p>
<p>The main sensor is rock solid. Photos come out sharp, detailed, and with excellent colour accuracy. White balance is consistent, highlights don&rsquo;t blow out, and shadows retain plenty of depth. In regular daylight shots, it&rsquo;s really tough to find fault, and it holds up just as well in low-light. The iPhone 17 delivers the kind of reliable results that make it easy to trust as a daily shooter.</p>
<p>The ultrawide camera is equally dependable. Colours match the main sensor really well, which means your photo set looks consistent across focal lengths. Yes, there are times, when the images may look slightly overprocessed, but they tend to happen only in low-light, that too when you&rsquo;re pixel peeping. For social media and day-to-day use, they&rsquo;re still perfect.</p>
<p>Portraits are where I expected the iPhone 17 to struggle, mainly because it did not have a dedicated telephoto lens, but to my surprise, it held up surprisingly well.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Edge detection is clean, and the natural-looking bokeh makes subjects pop.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Video is classic iPhone; crisp visuals 4K at 60 FPS with excellent stabilisation, with great details and colours.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Now, you don&rsquo;t get some of the extra pro-grade features like 4K 120 FPS or ProRes recording, but honestly, I did not miss them. Even content creators who post most of their stuff on Instagram and YouTube rarely use ProRes or 4K at 120FS.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The iPhone 17 series brings a new trick called dual video recording. It lets you capture footage from the front and rear cameras at the same time, merging them into a single video &mdash; similar to what you&rsquo;d see on a FaceTime or WhatsApp call. I tested it a couple of times and, to be fair, it worked flawlessly. The thing is, I don&rsquo;t really see a use case for it. Android phones have had this for years, and yet I can&rsquo;t recall seeing much content online that actually takes advantage of it. It feels more like a novelty than a must-have feature.</p>
<p>Where the iPhone 17 really shines for me is with the selfie camera. Apple has gone with a 24MP square sensor that outputs 18MP shots, and because of this design, you also get Centre Stage on the front. This feature lets you reframe selfies any way you want, no matter how you&rsquo;re holding the phone. Shooting a wide group selfie in portrait orientation? Easy. Recording a horizontal video while holding the phone vertically? No problem. It might sound trivial, but when you combine the bigger sensor with Centre Stage, the iPhone 17 gives you the best video stabilisation in selfies that&rsquo;s nothing short of outstanding. No other phone I&rsquo;ve used even comes close in this area.</p>
<p>For most people, the iPhone 17&rsquo;s camera system is more than enough. It&rsquo;s reliable, versatile, and delivers consistently great results without feeling compromised.</p>
<h2><strong>The 120Hz ProMotion Display on the iPhone 17 is a pretty big deal</strong></h2>
<p>Apple&rsquo;s given the regular iPhone a 6.3-inch display this year, but the real win is that it finally gets ProMotion. After years of waiting, a non-Pro iPhone can now hit 120Hz, and trust me, the difference is obvious.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Swiping through apps feels fast, animations flow naturally, and even gaming has that slick, smooth finish that makes the phone feel truly premium. For the longest time, the 60Hz screen was the deal-breaker that pushed me to recommend the Pro models. Not anymore.</p>
<p>In day-to-day use, the panel delivers everything I expect from an iPhone. Colours are spot on, and are accurate whether I&rsquo;m scrolling through photos or watching content on Netflix and YouTube. You also get Dolby Vision support, which makes some content look fantastic.</p>
<p>There are some other changes too. The bezels are ridiculously slim, almost as thin as the Pro models, and it gives the phone a sleek, near edge-to-edge feel. That instantly makes the 17 look more modern.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I was particularly impressed with the brightness. The iPhone 17 can crank up to a blistering 3,000 nits of peak brightness. Step outside into direct sunlight, and it&rsquo;s immediately obvious how much clearer and more legible it is compared to older models.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Audio is solid too. The stereo speakers get nice and loud, with enough bass to give music and videos a bit of punch. I didn&rsquo;t find them to be as full-bodied as what you get on the Pro models, but still, you really can&rsquo;t complain.</p>
<h2><strong>The iPhone 17 is a beast in performance, but what about AI?</strong></h2>
<p>The iPhone 17 runs on Apple&rsquo;s brand-new A19 chip, and honestly, you can feel how snappy it is from the moment you start using it. Everything is instant: Apps open the second I tap them, switching between heavy tasks feels effortless, and gaming doesn&rsquo;t just run smoothly, it stays smooth.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Apple&rsquo;s also finally bumped the base storage to 256GB too, which feels long overdue. With the size of today&rsquo;s apps, photos, and 4K videos, 128GB just wasn&rsquo;t cutting it anymore.</p>
<p>Using the phone day to day, I never felt like I was waiting on it. Scrolling through feeds, editing photos, and even jumping between a couple of apps all felt seamless.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Benchmarks only confirmed what I was already feeling, and just for fun, I also threw the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro in to the mix, to see just how big of a leap do we get in one and two generations.</p>
<p>In Antutu, the iPhone 17 scored over 2.4 million and handily beat the iPhone 16 Pro score of 2.07 million and absolutely crushed the 15 Pro's 1.79 million.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Geekbench shows the same story, although the difference the A18 Pro and the A19 wasn&rsquo;t as big. The 17 scored 3600 in single core, and 9078 in multicore, the 16 Pro scored 3443 in single core and 8660 in multicore, and finally, the 15 Pro scored 2938 in single core and 7402 in multicore.</p>
<p>3DMark&rsquo;s Wildlife Extreme Stress Test was an encore of the same tale. The iPhone had a best loop score of 4783 and a stability of 80.6%, the 16 Pro's best loop score was 4450 with a stability of 75%, and the 15 Pro's best loop score was 3462, but a slightly higher stability of 79.5%</p>
<p>But what really stood out to me wasn&rsquo;t just raw speed; it was how well the iPhone 17 handled heat.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I played a few graphics-heavy games back-to-back, and while most phones would start to heat up in 20 minutes, the iPhone 17 stayed cooler than expected and never once throttled performance. That should be a good indicator at just how efficient the new A19 is.</p>
<p>On the software side, we now get iOS 26, which sees a major redesign over the previous OS&rsquo;s. The key highlight is Liquid Glass and compared to all that we saw in the developer&rsquo;s beta, the final product is much more fluid, smooth and just a joy to use.</p>
<p>As for updates, while there is no official word from Apple on this, we usually see that most iPhones get six to seven years of OS updates, which means iPhone 17 is going to stay relevant for a long time.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Where Apple stumbles a bit is AI. We do get some AI features with Apple Intelligence, like Visual Intelligence, Image Playground, Writing Tools, and some basic photo tools like AI eraser, but they are not as polished as we get in some Android solutions. They&rsquo;re fun to play around wit,h though, but, none of them feel essential yet.&nbsp;</p>
<h2><strong>The iPhone 17&rsquo;s battery life is simply phenomenal</strong></h2>
<p>The iPhone 17 comes with a 3692mAh battery, the largest Apple has put in a base model, but numbers only tell part of the story. What really matters is how it performs day to day, and here the difference is clear.&nbsp;</p>
<p>In my first few days with the phone, the battery life was all over the place. But after it had time to settle in, learn my habits and get done with all its background processes like indexing, it lasted me through a full day of heavy use. On lighter days, I could even push for half a day, without scrambling for a charger.&nbsp;</p>
<p>A big reason behind this endurance is the A19 chip. It&rsquo;s not just faster, it&rsquo;s much more efficient, stretching every milliamp-hour further.</p>
<p>Charging speeds have finally improved too. The iPhone 17 now supports up to 40W wired charging, a clear bump over the older 25W limit. In real-world use it doesn&rsquo;t always hit peak speeds, but the gains are still obvious; 20 minutes on the charger takes it to about 50 per cent, and a full charge wraps up in roughly an hour and a half.</p>
<h2>Verdict: Why the iPhone 17 just makes sense</h2>
<p>The iPhone 17 is the one to buy right now, and I say that without hesitation. Apple has finally nailed the formula for its base iPhone. The A19 chip delivers serious power, battery life easily keeps up with a full day and often more, and the cameras perform far better than you&rsquo;d expect from a non-Pro model.</p>
<p>The display is what really seals it. Apple has finally given the standard iPhone the 120Hz ProMotion panel it should have had years ago, and it instantly makes the 17 feel like a far more exciting device.</p>
<p>Add in faster charging and Apple&rsquo;s trademark long-term support, and you&rsquo;ve got a phone that&rsquo;s built to last. Unless you absolutely need pro-grade tools like ProRes, ProRAW, or a telephoto zoom lens, there&rsquo;s no reason to look anywhere else. For most people, the iPhone 17 is the clear sweet spot in the lineup.</p>
