<p>He then showed footage of Trump pivoting from a question about how he had been affected by Kirk's death to boasting about the new ballroom he is building at the White House, prompting laughter from the studio audience.</p>

<p>Actor Paresh Rawal's upcoming film "The Taj Story" has sparked a huge controversy over its poster depicting him removing the dome of the Taj Mahal and a statue of Lord Shiva emerging from it, prompting the filmmakers to say it does not "deal with any religious matters".</p>
<p>Presented by Swarnim Global Service Pvt Ltd, the movie is directed by Tushar Amrish Goel and produced by CA Suresh Jha.</p>
<p>Rawal and the filmmakers released the poster of the film on Monday.</p>
<p>The poster caption reads, "What if everything you&rsquo;ve been taught is a lie? The truth isn&rsquo;t just hidden; it&rsquo;s being judged. Unveil the facts with #TheTajStory on 31st October in cinemas near you," read the caption.</p>

<p>The backlash was swift with many social media users terming it "propaganda" and "fake".</p>
<p>Swarnim Global Service Pvt Ltd countered with a statement shortly after.</p>
<p>"The makers of the film 'The Taj Story' clarify that the movie does not deal with any religious matters, nor does it claim that a Shiv temple resides within the Taj Mahal. It focuses solely on historical facts. We would kindly request you to watch the film and form your own opinion," it said.</p>

<p>But the debate continued.</p>
<p>Several people said it appeared to be the latest example of propaganda in cinema after recently released titles like "The Udaipur Files" and "The Bengal Files".</p>
<p>"Looking at the poster, it seems like an attempt to portray the Taj Mahal as a religious site. The Taj Mahal is the tomb of two lovers. Nothing more than that.</p>
<p>"In the medieval period, all the European travelers who came to India, whether Fran&ccedil;ois Bernier, Jean-Baptiste Tavernier, or Peter Mundy, described the Taj Mahal as a mausoleum built by Shah Jahan, not a temple," said one user on X.</p>
<p>Another user criticised Rawal for doing a movie like "The Taj Story".</p>
<p>"What a downfall @SirPareshRawal. From 'OMG' to #fake 'The Taj Story'," posted the user, referring to Rawal's critically-acclaimed 2012 movie "Oh My God", in which he played an atheist lawyer who sues God.</p>
<p>"The film The Taj Story revives the debunked claim that the Taj Mahal was once a Hindu temple. Historians reject it as pseudo-history, but critics fear it fuels communal divides. The Taj remains a 17th-century Mughal masterpiece - India&rsquo;s shared heritage," a user posted.</p>
<p>Another post read, "Bollywood now pushing propaganda with #TheTajStory a film twisting history by showing the Taj Mahal as a temple. A country boasting of being the 4th largest economy is drowning in fantasy &amp; communal myths. When propaganda feels ashamed, you know it&rsquo;s India 2025." A person called Taj Mahal "India&rsquo;s pride in global tourism".</p>
<p>"But BJP/filmmakers wants to rewrite its story with The Taj Story movie&mdash;turning heritage into propaganda. History doesn&rsquo;t change just because you want votes," the person posted.</p>
<p>Rawal was BJP MP from Ahmedabad East from 2014 to 2019.</p>
<p>Though the plotline film remains unclear, the makers had said in an earlier statement that the film raises the "questions and the secrets that are buried behind the 22 sealed doors of The Taj Mahal".</p>
<p>The movie also "promises to present a chapter from Indian history that no one has ever dared to present before", the makers claimed.</p>
<p>On August 14 this year, Rawal, 70, had shared a brief scene from the movie on his social media handles. He captioned it, "After 79 year of Independence are we still a slave of Intellectual Terrorism?" The courtroom scene showed Rawal's character arguing in front of the judges and saying, "Azaadi ke 78 saal baad bhi humari soch, nazariya unhi logo ke talve chaat raha hai jinhone lesh matra sankoch nahi kiya humari poori sabhyata ko khatam karne ki, humare astitva ko mitane ki. (Even after 78 years of independence, our thinking and perspective still bow down to those who did not hesitate in the slightest to try and destroy our entire civilisation and erase our existence)." The character then says it is time to now raise questions.</p>
<p>"If we do not raise them today, our history and our very existence will remain nothing more than questions," he adds.</p>
<p>The cast of "The Taj Story" also includes actors Zakir Hussain, Amruta Khanvilkar, Sneha Wagh, and Namit Das.</p>

<p>Jimmy Kimmel returned to late-night television after a nearly weeklong suspension and, in an emotional monologue where he appeared close to tears, said that he wasn't trying to joke about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.</p>
<p>&ldquo;I have no illusions about changing anyone's mind, but I do want to make something clear, because it's important to me as a human and that is, you understand that it was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man," Kimmel said on Tuesday night. "I don't think there's anything funny about it.&rdquo;&nbsp;</p>
<p>He added that he wasn't trying to blame any specific group "for the actions of what ... was obviously a deeply disturbed individual. That was really the opposite of the point I was trying to make.&rdquo;&nbsp;</p>
<p>He said he understood his remarks last week to some &ldquo;felt either ill-timed or unclear or maybe both.&rdquo; But he made no apologies. And he criticised the ABC affiliates who took his show off the air. Two stations groups that represent about a quarter of ABC stations, Sinclair and Nexstar, ordered their outlets not to show Kimmel.</p>
<p>&ldquo;That's not legal,&rdquo; Kimmel said. &ldquo;That's not American. It's un-American.&rdquo; The incident triggered a national discussion about freedom of speech and President Donald Trump's ability to police the words of journalists, commentators and even comics.</p>
<p>ABC suspended Kimmel's show last Wednesday following criticism of his remarks about the aftermath of Kirk's killing. But the network brought him back following a backlash against parent company Disney.</p>
<p>Kimmel thanked many supporters, including fellow late-night hosts past and present and even a former boss at a radio station in Seattle who checked in with him last week. He also singled out people he knows aren't fans of his comedy but stood up for his right to speak, including Texas Senator Ted Cruz.</p>
<p>"It takes courage for them to speak out against this administration," he said. "They did and they deserve credit for it.&rdquo; Kimmel nearly broke down again in praising Kirk's widow, Erica, who publicly forgave her husband's killer.</p>
<p>&ldquo;That is an example we should follow,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;If you believe in the teachings of Jesus as I do, there it was... A selfless act of grace, forgiveness from a grieving widow. It touched me deeply. And I hope it touches many. And if there's anything we should take from this tragedy to carry forward, I hope it can be that. And not this.&rdquo; Kimmel admitted that he was mad when ABC suspended him, but praised his bosses for putting him back on the air. &ldquo;Unjustly, this puts them at risk.&rdquo; He mocked Trump for criticising him for bad ratings. &ldquo;He tried his best to cancel me and instead he forced millions of people to watch this show,&rdquo; Kimmel said.</p>
<p>The decisions by Sinclair and Nexstar left ABC stations in Washington, DC; St. Louis; Nashville, Tennessee, and Richmond, Virginia among the cities airing something else.</p>
<p>WJLA-TV, the Sinclair-owned station in Washington, instead aired a newscast and an episode of the chain's show, &ldquo;The National Desk&rdquo;.</p>
<p>Kimmel's suspension came after an angry reaction to comments he made in monologues early last week. A relentless Trump critic in his comedy, Kimmel suggested that many Trump supporters were trying to capitalize on Kirk's death and were &ldquo;desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.&rdquo; Trump-appointed Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr last week said it appeared that Kimmel was trying to &ldquo;directly mislead the American public&rdquo; with his remarks about Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old Utah man charged with Kirk's killing, and his motives. Those motives remain unclear.</p>
<p>Authorities say Robinson grew up in a conservative family, but his mother told investigators his son had turned left politically in the last year.</p>
<p>&ldquo;We can do this the easy way or the hard way,&rdquo; Carr said before ABC announced the suspension. &ldquo;These companies can find ways to change conduct, to take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there is going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.&rdquo; Those remarks were key to the backlash, with Cruz saying that Carr acted like &ldquo;a mafioso.&rdquo; Hundreds of entertainment luminaries, including Tom Hanks, Barbra Streisand and Jennifer Aniston, signed a letter circulated by the American Civil Liberties Union that called ABC's move &ldquo;a dark moment for freedom of speech in our nation.&rdquo; Podcaster Joe Rogan weighed in Tuesday on Kimmel's side. &ldquo;I definitely don't think that the government should be involved -- ever -- in dictating what a comedian can or can't say in a monologue,&rdquo; Rogan said. &ldquo;You are crazy for supporting this because this will be used on you.&rdquo; Some consumers punished ABC parent Disney by cancelling subscriptions to its streaming services.</p>

Actor Robert De Niro appeared on &ldquo;Jimmy Kimmel Live!&rdquo; on Tuesday, impersonating Carr being interviewed by Kimmel. De Niro, as Carr, said the FCC had a new motto, &ldquo;sticks and stones can break your bones.&rdquo; Isn't there more to the saying, Kimmel asked, that words can never hurt you? &ldquo;They can hurt you now,&rdquo; De Niro responded, saying you have to make sure to say the right ones.</p>

<p>President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday conferred National Awards for acting to Shah Rukh Khan, Vikrant Massey and Rani Mukerji while Malayalam superstar Mohanlal was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke lifetime achievement award in a ceremony that doffed its hat to mainstream popular cinema.</p>
<p>Filmmakers Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who took home the best film prize for "12th Fail", and Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehra, who received the award for "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Kahaani" for best popular film providing wholesome entertainment, completed the starry ensemble at the 71st National Film Awards.</p>
<p>The best director award went to Sudipto Sen for "The Kerala Story". The National Awards for 2023 were announced in August. It's the first National Award for friends and frequent collaborators Shah Rukh and Rani as well as for Vikrant. While Shah Rukh got it for his role in "Jawan", sharing his win with "12th Fail" star Vikrant, Rani bagged it for "Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway".</p>
<p>There were whistles and loud cheers as Rani and Shah Rukh went up to receive their awards at the traditionally sober ceremony. Mohanlal, recognised for a remarkable career spanning five decades and more than 360 films, got a standing ovation from the crowd gathered at the city's Vigyan Bhawan. "I got to know that when Mohanlal's name was announced for Dadasaheb Phalke, there was wave of happiness among people. It shows that he has made a space for himself in countless people's heart," the president said in her address after the award ceremony. "He has presented the softest of the soft and toughest of the tough emotions quite naturally," Murmu added in a speech in which she congratulated all the winners and touched on various issues, including the plurarity of Indian cinema, Indian sensibility and women-centric films.</p>
<p>"Now we see women in many places in cinema like actors and producers. I have seen films about mothers, women uniting against societal wrongs, and strong women who raise their voices. I salute these filmmakers on behalf of sisters and daughters.</p>
<p>Please thank your crews for your success, they are behind it,' she said.</p>
<p>Just like Indian literature is created in various Indian languages, the president said, Indian cinema is advancing in so many languages, dialects, regions and local environments.</p>
<p>Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw spoke of the Make in India initiative of the government.</p>
<p>"Equipment used in the film industry such as big cameras... should be made in India. We will be started a programme on this soon," he said. The minister also stressed on the need to create a live concert economy with proper policy support, uniform guidelines and easy permissions.</p>
<p>As the recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke, Mohanlal was the only awardee who spoke.</p>
<p>He said he was deeply humbled to be the youngest recipient, and "only the second ever" from the state to be bestowed with this national recognition. "This moment is not mine alone. It belongs to the entire Malayalam cinema fraternity. I see this award as a collective tribute to our industry, legacy, creativity and resilience," added the 65-year-old movie legend known for landmark films such as &ldquo;Iruvar&rdquo;, &ldquo;Vanaprastham&rdquo;, &ldquo;Pulimurugan&rdquo; and &ldquo;Drishyam&rdquo;. Hindi cinema dominated the awards in the main categories.</p>
<p>Among those presented awards were Meghna Gulzar and Ronnie Screwvala for the biopic on Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw "Sam Bahadur", the best film promoting national, social and environmental values.</p>
<p>Vaibhavi Merchant won the best choreography award for "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani" song "Dhindhora Baaje". Shilpa Rao was named best female playback singer for "Jawan" track "Chaleya".</p>
<p>Sanya Malhotra-starrer "Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery" was named the best Hindi film.</p>
<p>Regional movies were recognised in categories such as best supporting actor and actress and in technical segments.</p>
<p>The best supporting actor trophy was shared by Vijayaraghavan for Malayalam film "Pookalam" and Muthupettai Somu Bhaskar for Tamil film "Parking".</p>
<p>The best supporting actress honour went to Urvashi for the Malayalam movie "Ullozhokku" and Janki Bodiwala for Gujarati title "Vash". Both movies won best films in their respective language segments.</p>
<p>Ashish Bende bagged the award for best debut film of a director for Marathi film "Aatmapamphlet".</p>
<p>The best film in AVGC (animation, visual effects, gaming &amp; comic) went to Telugu film "Hanu-Man", which also won the best action direction award.</p>
<p>"Animal", another Hindi blockbuster of 2023, won awards for best sound design, best music director (background music) and a special mention for re-recording mixer.</p>
<p>The National Award for best screenplay was shared between Telugu movie "Baby" and Tamil film "Parking". "Baby" singer PVN S Rohit was recognised as the best male playback singer for the song "Premisthunna".</p>
<p>The best music director for songs went to G V Prakash for Tamil movie "Vaathi". Kasarla Shyam was named best lyricist for Telugu movie "Balagam" song 'Ooru Palleturu".</p>
<p>Deepak Kingrani was named best dialogue writer for the Manoj Bajpayee-fronted Hindi film "Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai". The best editing prize went to Malayalam title "Pookkaalam" and production design to another Malayalam movie "2018".</p>
<p>Sukriti Veni Bandreddi ("Gandhi Tatha Chettu"), Kabir Khandare ("Gypsy") and "Naal 2" cast members Treesha Thosar, Shrinivas Pokale, and Bhargav Jagtap were recognised in the best child artists category. "Naal 2" was also named best children's film.</p>
